Wow. Great to add another player with speed.

He just chose a world-class education in the best college town in America.

Go Blue.

Should someone diagram that soft pick play for DB? They’ve run it 6 times today at least and the secondary is not adjusting.

Meant the /s but hit save. He obviously didn’t interfere worth a flag.  TD is a worthy payback.

I put the game on pause so I could catch the excitement of the fresh paint drying on the wall instead of the offense.

Goodness this stinks.

Congrats to Giles on selecting a great university.

Look forward to his game-breaking capabilities in the winged helmet.

09/08/2018 - 6:55pm Great job by the staff to…

Great job by the staff to block out the news and focus the team. A rough first 4 minutes, but then a solid ass kicking with the O executing very well.

If Warinner gets the OL straight (uh, Hudson and Mayfield looked good), this team can win a lot of games. Get Black and Solomon healthy, they can play with anyone.

[One nit: still too slow and belaboring to get into the O sets early and establish a rhythm.]

09/08/2018 - 6:44pm Hudson looked ready in the…

Hudson looked ready in the run game. Mayfield looked solid in pass pro.

Both were junk tim and I suspect JH is trying to avoid the controversy if both performed well in the 2nd Q or otherwise against fresher WMU players.

09/07/2018 - 7:35pm I will say it from my…

I will say it from my perspective:  this staff is asking too much of the QB and others to execute well.  Patterson has to run speed option, RPO, read option, deep drops, quick passes? He messed up speed option at a critical point because he is not an option QB.  He didn’t execute read option very well.  Runyan struggled with Tillery and other blocks requiring reach, but the staff didn’t do him any favors after the initial set of plays designed to minimize his limitations.

Just commit to an identity and get the guys to execute it extremely well. This group can run IZ and other power.

09/06/2018 - 3:23pm 51-3. Go Blue.

51-3. Go Blue.

09/05/2018 - 9:44pm Answer: Because he finds a…

Answer: Because he finds a way to keep games close even when he has the lesser team.

Question: Why has Dantonio lost 9 games by >1 score while JH has lost 4?

Question: Why has Dantonio won only 14 games by >1 score while JH has won 21?

Question: Why is Dantonio 26-14 over the same stretch JH is 28-12?

[I actually believe JH would be at the apex if he could find a way to instill a little more moxie, heroics and good fortune. MSU 15, Iowa 16, OSU 16 and SC 17 - just make 1 or 2 basic plays and the whole narrative changes. Frankly, he should hire a team psychologist at this point.]

09/04/2018 - 8:19pm Realistic 8-4 and that will…

Realistic 8-4 and that will take some a couple of quality wins.  Regardless, I think 10-2 is possible if the guys decide to simply make some key plays and actually get some good bounces.

09/03/2018 - 8:33pm Trente Jones should be a …

Trente Jones should be a “true OT prospect” already committed for 2019, plus Hayes is clearly slated for OT (if he can gain the weight and keep his athleticism).

We should still target Keegan and Ike because who knows which OL prospects will pan out at OT or OG.

09/03/2018 - 6:15pm Not sure HS OTs will help…

Not sure HS OTs will help soon enough, but Trente Jones looks like the real deal for 2019 and hopefully Miles Hinton joins for 2020.

More urgently, Hudson/Mayfield/Stueber/Hayes need massive development.  Training table, lifting, agility drills, technique drills and repetitions - unless they are sleeping or studying.

The talent and coaching exist, but unfortunately we will have to give it time.

09/03/2018 - 5:38pm A sign of his NFL experience…

A sign of his NFL experience because no coach survives in the league without great understanding of schemes and game planning.

The other thing: JH keeps games close which is another NFL trait. Urban has 2 31-point losses in the last 15 games plus a 15-pt loss. Dantonio has losses by 45 pts and 20 pts in the last 15 games.  Those are two excellent coaches with excellent seasons that included beat downs. Everything went wrong in the first quarter and UM still lost by 7; UM had 5 TOs and TDs over turned and lost by 4 to MSU.

It’s frustrating to lose those games and especially when UM has a shot at the end, but the program has to learn to make key plays to turn those losses into wins. Players must have the resolve to execute opportunities. Hawkins must intercept that ball; Hart must handle the snap; Gil must make the sack; Shea must throw away at the 2; Gentry must snag the TD pass. It’s simple - and yet it’s hard.

Maybe JH just needs to hire a team psychologist ...

09/03/2018 - 7:49am Just for cramps. Plus the…

Just for cramps. Plus the 2nd QB was uninjured. Real progress this year ...

In related news, UCLA will ride their 2nd QB after their first was injured. Maybe the curse went with Wilton.

09/02/2018 - 1:25pm That’s spot on.  UM puts…

That’s spot on.  UM puts more emphasis on the academics and reputation of the school, while OSU has proven to prioritize football over all else.

UM needs to win at both and the last 15 yrs certainly puts into question when that will happen. One thing is assured - OSU will never win at both.

09/02/2018 - 12:34pm There are many positives and…

There are many positives and the team has a lot of talent in many areas, just not OT.  We know the defense is much closer to the 2nd half version than the 1st Qtr - but guys must make basic plays and they must generate some turnovers.

The passing game is much improved and Shea/Dylan showed command despite a lack of pocket security. The special teams also looked solid other than the botched hold.

Besides the OT gap, the core issue is mental toughness and moxie to make plays. Period.

09/02/2018 - 11:45am UM has become the program of…

UM has become the program of “almosts”.  The number of basic plays vs MSU 15, Iowa 16, OSU 16, FSU 16, MSU 17, UW 17, OSU 17, SC 17 & ND 18 that were botched by UM players and actually turned into major momentum swings is astounding. The long TD last night should have been an INT and a big boost to UM, but the opposite happened. Back breaker.

Either the team lacks playmakers or the guys are trying too hard, but they are in position to make plays and then inexplicably botch the play. The coaches must change the mindset and the players will have to decide if they are the fortitude and focus to make those plays.

09/02/2018 - 11:15am I’ll go 8-4.  Losses to MSU,…

I’ll go 8-4.  Losses to MSU, OSU and one of UW/PSU/NW.

I think this group can beat UW and PSU at home, especially if they start to make the basic plays (Hawkins 2 INT, Gil sack, fumbled FG) instead of turning them into momentum builders for the other team.

The talent and schemes do not appear to gel well enough to beat top 20 teams at this point. They need to take a huge step forward in the proverbial 2nd game, develop a LT and steadily improve to have any shot against the better teams.

09/02/2018 - 3:50am Playing random, tough OOC…

Playing random, tough OOC games is not worth it, but UM vs ND is worth it. A rivalry game with such a storied history is a big part of college football’s appeal. Just need to win.

The game tonight was a tough, tough loss - but the team can learn some crucial lessons to make themselves better.

09/02/2018 - 3:37am Disappointing outing on many…

Disappointing outing on many levels, so squarely on the coaches.

Really surprised that the defense looked shellshocked in Q1 despite this group being fairly experienced.  UM just isn’t talented enough to play poorly for 15-20 minutes against good teams and still win.

Like 2016, we are back to “almosts”. The “almost made the play” references happen so frequently that it boils down to a lack of playmakers or basic fortitude.  Hawkins’s failure to high point a relatively basic INT turned a very positive opportunity into a huge negative play. Those “almosts” change ballgames and they seem to happen regularly with this UM program.

Just not good enough.

09/01/2018 - 9:37pm Are we sure the Don Brown D…

Are we sure the Don Brown D is built for big games? Is there more to the problems than simply preparation given the NFL talent at multiple spots?

Giving ND and Wimbush 21 points in a half is not top tier defense. This group is experienced and perhaps the most athletic that DB has coached - so the speed of the game and crowd should not create  major performance issues. Yet they were shredded. 23 pts to SC in 2nd half; 21 to ND in 1st half.

09/01/2018 - 9:20pm Is there reason or…

Is there reason or observations to believe this team can rebound?

09/01/2018 - 8:45pm Looks like the D is…

Looks like the D is overrated. Hopefully the game slows down in the next few games for these guys before the meat of the schedule.

I really thought this group would be a generational D with the experience and speed returning.

09/01/2018 - 8:08pm Well, that’s not the start…

Well, that’s not the start that we hoped would happen. The D better get it figured out.

Harbaugh is Catholic - maybe his chicken comment was related to Friday dining limitations.

08/31/2018 - 8:39pm Ronnie Bell might get the…

Ronnie Bell might get the most plays - fairly easy to hide a player at WR and I think the guy has the moxie to get on the field with a thin WR corps. Aiden, though, gets the most “quality” plays.

My long shot is VanSumeran simply because Wangler has been dinged up and VS is physically ready.  JH might uses a FB only 30-40% of the time, so not many FB snaps.

If you mean “tribal stupidity” when you type “sarcasm”, then yes.

08/31/2018 - 1:28pm The guy is just twisting in…

The guy is just twisting in the wind and hopelessly grasping for a safe landing. Defending his own lies and missteps by saying it didn’t happen despite the documented facts. Pathetic look.

Who is advising him?  Surely someone with some PR sense can keep him off Twitter.

08/30/2018 - 12:45pm Drake undoubtedly dinged his…

Drake undoubtedly dinged his career with this fiasco. I would expect him to leave asap so he can still position himself as above the fray.

Smith has no career beyond Cbus. Meyer has probably narrowed his career options to only a few “win at all cost” locations like the SEC or 3rd rate programs like Louisville. The rest of the OSU population might be annoyed but unaffected.

Besides, this situation is not out of character for OSU and the vigorous defense of ZS and the program by fans just reiterates what OSU is at its core.

Too soon?

08/28/2018 - 7:06pm If your benchmark is…

If your benchmark is compensation then the corollary benchmark is also economic based (revenue). Harbaugh is a top 5 coach as UM was tied with OSU at #3 for college revenue of $185m.  So in an objective view, he is worth his salary.

Now if your standard is “leaders and best”, there is a meaningful discussion about 28-11 as a record.

Shucks - really looked forward to seeing him turn it loose in the rebuilt offense with Shea. Time for the other guys to step up. Perhaps Ambry can step in as an extra threat for jet sweeps and deep balls.

Hope it heals quickly and fully for Tarik’s sake so he can enjoy 1/2 of this season.

08/26/2018 - 12:51pm IBD. This won’t go well.

IBD. This won’t go well.

08/26/2018 - 12:48pm And Northwestern at #8, USC …

And Northwestern at #8, USC #7, Miss State #9, Bama #10, Missouri #16 and UGA #22.  That’s perhaps the worst preseason poll ever.

08/26/2018 - 12:27pm I think Nebraska will be far…

I think Nebraska will be far more competitive than last year and their offense will be productive. Their defense will lag for another year because they lack depth.

We rightfully mock the “out hit” comment by Frost, but he will demand the effort and physicality to tuarnaround the program. They gave up in multiple games last year and looked small/slow/weak. That will change - just not enough to win a lot this year without the necessary talent.

I expect a 3-year turnaround to really challenge UW in the West and Martinez will have a lot of experience by then.

08/24/2018 - 8:20pm Urban has lost control and…

Urban has lost control and does not know how to react.  He is a pathetic character at this point.  Just feebly trying to stay relevant and not a joke or characture of leaders who lose touch with reality.  Too late.  That press conference solidified him as a complete ass.

Bye, Felicia.

08/22/2018 - 10:02pm Thank goodness for Pres…

Thank goodness for Pres Schlissel and the leadership at UM. There is a basic reason why UM is an elite institution.

Today, OSU just placed itself into the horde of schools that have no identity bigger than their teams. Pathetic choice by their admin and truly shameful in light of the DV circumstances & repeated ethical failings by Meyer.

08/22/2018 - 9:27pm Of course his story doesn’t…

Of course his story doesn’t hold up.  Seriously, the nickname “Urban Liar” is not unfounded.

OSU just entered full SEC mode (maybe Ole Miss territory) and it could be many years that this type of institutional depravity will stick to them.

08/22/2018 - 9:20pm Lying, repeated domestic…

Lying, repeated domestic violence, OVI, using a univ phone to transmit sexual images, sex toys delivered to the OSU offices, sex with subordinates?

Nothing to see here - just a regular OSU supervisor, OSU employee and principle-based BoT.

Bahahahaha.  OSU just made ANOTHER mockery of their standing as an academic institution.  Quite pathetic and humorous at the same time.

08/22/2018 - 12:11pm OSU knew the issues at UF…

OSU knew the issues at UF and they still hired him. They knew the issues with Tressel and kept him until they couldn’t, and even then they celebrated him at halftime.  Gee was only partially joking about the balance of power.

No one should be surprised that OSU has openly prioritized football wins over the reputation of the institution.

08/19/2018 - 7:45am DJ transferred to IMG.

DJ transferred to IMG.

08/15/2018 - 9:28pm Well, the commentary is…

Well, the commentary is wrong on almost every point but his conclusion is reasonable.  The matchup is a toss up this year at this point, UM has high variability with Shea at a critical spot, and it’s in the trash bowl in EL. Picking MSU is a safe choice.
