Trevor Keegan Commits To Michigan
Michigan picks up a presumably final OL commit in this class:
ESPN 300 OL Trevor Keegan has committed to Michigan over Georgia and Penn State. Keegan is the No. 168 ranked prospect and gives the #Wolverines 11 ESPN 300 commits in the 2019 class
— Tom VanHaaren (@TomVH) December 15, 2018
Penn State and Georgia were the other main contenders, with Georgia briefly surging into a crystal ball lead a couple of months ago. Keegan's a mid-to-high four star ranked #163 on the composite and is a true tackle prospect, which was a priority after James Hudson left. Trente Jones is also clearly a tackle; the other four guys in the class probably project to the interior. Let's hope this six-man class works out much much better than Michigan's most recent six-man OL class, which spat out one year of Patrick Kugler starting and nothing else.
Hello post Monday.

2019 OL haul looks epic!

Congrats to Keegan for pledging Beta also.

Thank the good Lord!

Two tackles and four interior linemen? Looks like a reasonably balanced class.
December 14th, 2018 at 8:26 PM ^
Stewart and Barnhart have been talked about as swing guys, too.
That's not to say that they'll end up there but it's good to have numbers and versatility.
December 14th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
Everything you said plus Ed Warinner, yes please.
December 15th, 2018 at 12:17 AM ^
Yes times 1000. Never can have enough guys in the pipeline. Having swing guys is underrated because having a guy you can bring in for an injury that doesn’t require you to move other guys on the line for continuity’s sake.

I hope that is true because even with two true OTs in this class we still have little depth at OT. It would also be huge if Hayes could develop into an OT but that is a huge unknown at this point.
December 15th, 2018 at 1:28 AM ^
Keep in mind last year we took two OT prospects and zero interior prospects.
Personally I think Keegan might end up on the interior as well, time will tell.

Shut your whore mouth!
December 14th, 2018 at 8:15 PM ^
We would still take Ike right?
December 14th, 2018 at 8:23 PM ^
I LIKE IKE!
December 15th, 2018 at 5:26 AM ^
The question is: Do you licky Ike?
December 14th, 2018 at 8:23 PM ^
Maybe if they strike out elsewhere since Ike is announcing NSD.
Taking 7 OL is a really weird thing to do unless you're in a dire roster situation.
December 14th, 2018 at 8:25 PM ^
The OL has been in dire situation for the last 10 years.
December 14th, 2018 at 8:29 PM ^
This is absolutely legitimate.
December 14th, 2018 at 8:39 PM ^
I'm for big OL classes just would rather do like 6 in '19 and 4 in '20 than 7 and 3 or whatever it may be.
Ideally you're throwing out 5s and 4s every year and attrition does the roster balance dirty work.
December 15th, 2018 at 1:41 AM ^
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict it will be absolutely dominant next year. Without a contribution from this freshman class.
December 14th, 2018 at 10:29 PM ^
I don't think they would have pre hudson leaving. Now, I think they have to. Realistically in two years 2-3 of these OL commits won't be on the roster anymore for whatever reason. That plus only taking 2 last year and I think that means Ike is a take. Ike might not want to commit with so many other OL commits but that is a different problem haha
December 15th, 2018 at 1:30 AM ^
If Ike commits, I don't think he is the one that has to worry about all the other OL in the class.
December 15th, 2018 at 12:15 PM ^
I like Ike as a prospect. If they take a 7th guy I think you're right that's because Hudson left. Or maybe there's OL attrition we don't see coming (I see some coming).
They took a ton of guys two years ago which contributed to the smaller class last year. There were obviously other bigger factors there but it's so damn easy to negative recruit when you can point at a roster and spin it as "they took 5 tackles last year."
Coaches are just in on so many dudes and things like a 2nd running back are suddenly perhaps more pressing than a 7th OL.
December 15th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
With the amount of attrition we have, and the lack of sure-fire OTs already there, I think it's pretty reasonable to go heavy on OL until things start getting a little more steady.
Warinner has been such a great addition. It's amazing to see what a well coached OL looks like after Drevno and Drevno/Frey.

Is six generally considered too few?
December 14th, 2018 at 9:13 PM ^
Yes, generally 12 or 13 is ideal.
December 15th, 2018 at 12:14 AM ^
I think ideally you want to take about 5-6 a year because the washout rate at oline is so high. More injuries than other positions and it’s so hard to project who is good coming out of high school. The six man class Brian reference is a perfect example of not ever being confident in how many guys you take.

Gravity is rubbing its hands and cackling with glee already with Ms. Upton.

It is more the damage the child will do than gravity. But don't fret my friends, they can be lifted back to glory once the child bearing days are past.

That is a very 2018 thing to say. You get my upvote.

Great GET! It doesn't take the sting out of our recent loss of Dax Hill (I know different postion) but at least doesn't feel like the gloom and doom I felt last week when that happened. It seems we FINALLY have a bit higher OLine quality coming in the door. Yes this last year was a light years improvement on the line, but we still need to step up a another notch. We have a room full of QB's, our receivers are as good as anyone's. Charbonnet looks to be the real deal at RB, TE ? check. Now, just build that line! I think Safety is now really the position of greatest need. (anyone thinks we're flipping him back is dreaming)
December 14th, 2018 at 11:04 PM ^
Our TEs not being elite has been a problem. I'm somewhat glad we're gonna be moving on from Gentry and McKeon. Neither are elite blockers and both have had boneheaded drops on a consistent basis.
December 15th, 2018 at 10:50 AM ^
Agreed. Our TEs have been underwhelming since Butt which is surprising given the featured role they play in Harbaugh’s offense.
December 15th, 2018 at 6:58 PM ^
Losing Asiasi really really hurt. He looked great in Harbaugh's system. Things would be a lot different with Gentry splitting snaps as the #2 TE.
