Will UM get fair officiating in Columbus this Saturday?

Or will Delaney do everything in his power to help OSU and Urban out like in 2016.

Wouldn't the most beneficial result for the Big Ten be Michigan winning on Saturday? Unless your argument is that the officiating crew will be comprised entirely of OSU fans (which is doubtful), it's unlikely that there would be a directive from the Big Ten to screw over the only team in the conference who still has a good chance of making the playoff.

Negatory. Nope. No. Not a chance. It ain't happening. Looks like you can just kick the ball out the refs hands and that's fine. How about pretend first downs? Phantom holding calls. The best option is to leave it out of the refs hands by NOT keeping the game close.

Just make sure the refs aren't from Ohio. Simple. To this day I don't know how we allowed two Ohio State fans and an MSU fan to ref the game

I don't believe in conspiracy theories - too many people have to be involved, and they'd never be able to keep it quiet.  That said, the 2016 game featured three OSU fans and an MSU fan, and that's all it took to sway the game in a bad direction.

However.

Michigan will own OSU's defense, and no amount of sketchy calls will make up for that.

However, part 2.

If anyone thinks Delaney would ever pull for Michigan over OSU, you haven't been watching for the last 25 years...

The thing we have going for us, as far as Delaney goes is that we have the only sure way to the CFP. So if Delaney does have any say in it, he should throw it our way if any

I default to assuming no, not because of Delaney conspiracy but because the refs seem to have built up a baseline antagony towards Harbaugh (and also because BPONE).  But if Delaney is manipulating things, he should manipulate them in Michigan's favor.  There's almost no way Ohio State gets into the playoff if they win the Big 10 - they're not going to jump Oklahoma or Washington State if either of them win out, and there's at least a chance that an SEC-title losing Georgia stays ahead of them if Oklahoma or Wazzou derps a game away.  The CFP committee has shown that they think nothing of Ohio State's season based on their rankings to date.  Michigan is objectively the Big 10's best chance of a playoff team, and while I believe Delaney is a clown who has a weird disdain for Michigan, we all know he REALLY likes money and TV eyeballs, and absolutely wants a Big 10 team in the playoff.

It's to the B1G's advantage if Michigan wins.

Besides the fact that it's a fresh storyline - we haven't won our division yet - we're the conference's best hope to get into the CFP. Ohio State is currently behind Oklahoma, UGA, and Washington State among one-loss teams. Even if they win out, there's a decent possibility they'd be left out. On the other hand, if we win out, we'll most likely be in.

No and that is why I already have moved on to basketball. One way or another Michigan will lose on Saturday.

Urban isn't paid to coach, but to be whining at the refs the entire game.

Expect a 5-1 margin against Michigan on holding calls. OSU linemen will give "great protection".

Expect big UM defensive stops to be whistled about 3 times for pass interference. OSU will never get called - they have excellent coverage.

Expect phantoms everywhere. Phantom catches in bounds, TDs, defensive holds and of course phantom first downs.

Expect the announcers after many of these calls to start using teams like "unfortunate break" for Michigan or "borderline" or "could go either way".

Expect the refs to take a loooooong time to spot the ball and start play if the OSU defense is not set.

Expect a roughing the passer call at least once but never against OSU.

Expect a key Michigan defensive player to be out for targeting early.

This is what I expect to see every time The Game is in the toilet bowl - a lot of shit calls.

No. Harbaugh needs to have the team ready for this. The defense needs to know there are going to be 2-3 times they do their job and the refs give Ohio State a second chance just for fun.

I can't believe this is even a question for anybody.

A conference that would let referees with obvious and longstanding affections for Ohio State officiate one of the most important games in recent conference history is actively disinterested in unbiased officiating.

are you going off of a picture of a pick six by Jordan Lewis?  The reason why that was posted was he was calling that game as well and was in the frame.

He went to Western Michigan and is most likely not a Michigan fan.

You need to try a little better next time.

You would think that given we are the B1G's only shot at a playoff birth that the officials will help us out for the greater good of the conference....  it's about the money for Dalaney after all right?

Look,

Michigan is going to be ready for this game. We will get a fair shake with the officials since Jim has already publicly called them out for all of the terrible stuff that's happened this year. ESPECIALLY the Higdon holding call. That was the worst call I have ever witnessed.

Michigan is not going to get screwed over in this game, but there are going to be a shit ton of PI calls since Haskins is going to throw deep practically all game. That is inevitable. It's going to happen. But once we get pressure on him, he will make bad decisions and end up throwing picks.

My feelingsball post.

Go Blue! I got a feelin y'all!

Ref crew that did the MSU game this year seemed fair.

Can't have OSU fan refs like in 16'. The kids work too hard to get jobbed like that...

I agree.  I thought the Wisconsin game was the best officiated game that I've seen in a long time, but maybe that was just the cleanest game we've had in that span.

All we want is fairness.  The officials won't get them all right, but when a replay shows us committing a penalty, can't really say much.

I forget which play (Maybe the Higdon 4th down conversion) against Indiana, but FS1 replayed it at least twice, and it showed a blatant hold by Runyan (IIRC) that wasn't called.

Take the ref equation out. Crush osu early, put it away and out of reach. This game will be a crescendo of the offense and defense putting a beat down in cbus.

Hey, it’s me from the future again. Here to answer stupid and impossible to answer questions (unless you are from the future like me). Yeah, the officiating will be shitty but equally shitty like usual. If UM scores more points than OSU, they will win regardless. I already know the score (I’m from the future) but don’t want to spoil it.

also, before and if you reply back, I have zero interest in debating this. I know that game was bad in terms of officiating. The calls were probably one sided. I am just in the camp that you control what you can control. Lots of people say UM would have won if the officiating was better which may be true. I prefer to go with UM may have won if they didn’t turn the ball over and/or made a couple more defensive plays on third down. One thing you can control, the other you can’t. Again no need to debate as it’s in the past and hopefully UM plays well enough to overcome potential bad calls. College refs are terrible without conspiracy theories, don’t allow the game to be decided by them.
