Also, Jourdan Lewis being held, which turned into a block in the back.
How about the PI called on a pass 8 feet over Samuel's head in the 4th quarter.
Or the non-call PI on the 3rd down pass to Perry in our second OT possession.
November 20th, 2018 at 5:48 PM ^
Exactly , i always love the arguments if Michigan would have played a perfect game they would have won. Ohio state had bad plays and made mistakes as well. the only difference is they had the benefit of the refs to bail them out end of story.
November 21st, 2018 at 12:12 AM ^
No the refs did allow Curtis Samuel to “outmaneuver” our defense and make it 4th and 1. That’s the whole point. They allowed several holds and an obvious block in the back so he could make that play. Could not have been more obvious, even in real time.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
Wouldn't the most beneficial result for the Big Ten be Michigan winning on Saturday? Unless your argument is that the officiating crew will be comprised entirely of OSU fans (which is doubtful), it's unlikely that there would be a directive from the Big Ten to screw over the only team in the conference who still has a good chance of making the playoff.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:11 PM ^
Bingo.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
Yes, it will actually be in Michigan’s favor since they are the Big Tens best shot at the playoffs.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:06 PM ^
Yes we will. And no one gets called for holding. That's not unfair officiating. It's just college ball. Otherwise, it will be fair.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:08 PM ^
Negatory. Nope. No. Not a chance. It ain't happening. Looks like you can just kick the ball out the refs hands and that's fine. How about pretend first downs? Phantom holding calls. The best option is to leave it out of the refs hands by NOT keeping the game close.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:10 PM ^
Just score enough points to take the fucking officials out of the picture. Like 84.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:19 PM ^
Just make sure the refs aren't from Ohio. Simple. To this day I don't know how we allowed two Ohio State fans and an MSU fan to ref the game
November 20th, 2018 at 1:20 PM ^
No. Fuck the refs
November 20th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
Hell no! We are going to have to punk both these assholes. I hope we are up by 20 in the fourth so we can throw a crossing route at a refs face.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:31 PM ^
More than fair is my prediction, they need a B1G team in the playoff, only one can accomplish that at this point.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:33 PM ^
I don't believe in conspiracy theories - too many people have to be involved, and they'd never be able to keep it quiet. That said, the 2016 game featured three OSU fans and an MSU fan, and that's all it took to sway the game in a bad direction.
However.
Michigan will own OSU's defense, and no amount of sketchy calls will make up for that.
However, part 2.
If anyone thinks Delaney would ever pull for Michigan over OSU, you haven't been watching for the last 25 years...
(/removes tin foil hat, puts it back in the closet)
November 20th, 2018 at 1:35 PM ^
The thing we have going for us, as far as Delaney goes is that we have the only sure way to the CFP. So if Delaney does have any say in it, he should throw it our way if any
November 20th, 2018 at 1:36 PM ^
I default to assuming no, not because of Delaney conspiracy but because the refs seem to have built up a baseline antagony towards Harbaugh (and also because BPONE). But if Delaney is manipulating things, he should manipulate them in Michigan's favor. There's almost no way Ohio State gets into the playoff if they win the Big 10 - they're not going to jump Oklahoma or Washington State if either of them win out, and there's at least a chance that an SEC-title losing Georgia stays ahead of them if Oklahoma or Wazzou derps a game away. The CFP committee has shown that they think nothing of Ohio State's season based on their rankings to date. Michigan is objectively the Big 10's best chance of a playoff team, and while I believe Delaney is a clown who has a weird disdain for Michigan, we all know he REALLY likes money and TV eyeballs, and absolutely wants a Big 10 team in the playoff.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
I'm OK with refs calling a few phantom PI calls vs. OSU as long as they call EVERY time our DL is held. So, that would be every play.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
It's to the B1G's advantage if Michigan wins.
Besides the fact that it's a fresh storyline - we haven't won our division yet - we're the conference's best hope to get into the CFP. Ohio State is currently behind Oklahoma, UGA, and Washington State among one-loss teams. Even if they win out, there's a decent possibility they'd be left out. On the other hand, if we win out, we'll most likely be in.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:40 PM ^
Good article from back in the day:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2016-12-01/do-college-football-refs-have-it-in-for-your-team
Also, how do we find out which crew is working the game for a quick Ohio resident background check?
November 20th, 2018 at 1:43 PM ^
Do they ever?
November 20th, 2018 at 1:47 PM ^
Hopefully, it won't matter and we steamroll the punks.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:48 PM ^
No and that is why I already have moved on to basketball. One way or another Michigan will lose on Saturday.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:50 PM ^
Urban isn't paid to coach, but to be whining at the refs the entire game.
Expect a 5-1 margin against Michigan on holding calls. OSU linemen will give "great protection".
Expect big UM defensive stops to be whistled about 3 times for pass interference. OSU will never get called - they have excellent coverage.
Expect phantoms everywhere. Phantom catches in bounds, TDs, defensive holds and of course phantom first downs.
Expect the announcers after many of these calls to start using teams like "unfortunate break" for Michigan or "borderline" or "could go either way".
Expect the refs to take a loooooong time to spot the ball and start play if the OSU defense is not set.
Expect a roughing the passer call at least once but never against OSU.
Expect a key Michigan defensive player to be out for targeting early.
This is what I expect to see every time The Game is in the toilet bowl - a lot of shit calls.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
No. Harbaugh needs to have the team ready for this. The defense needs to know there are going to be 2-3 times they do their job and the refs give Ohio State a second chance just for fun.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
I can't believe this is even a question for anybody.
A conference that would let referees with obvious and longstanding affections for Ohio State officiate one of the most important games in recent conference history is actively disinterested in unbiased officiating.
November 20th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
Repeating the same lie doesn't make it true.
November 20th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
It's a lie because, per the definition of lie, it's not true. Post evidence that that ref is a Michigan resident and "avid" Michigan fan, or shut the f up.
November 20th, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
There's a LOT more to it than one spot. There's a video on the first page...go watch.
November 20th, 2018 at 7:57 PM ^
are you going off of a picture of a pick six by Jordan Lewis? The reason why that was posted was he was calling that game as well and was in the frame.
He went to Western Michigan and is most likely not a Michigan fan.
You need to try a little better next time.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
You would think that given we are the B1G's only shot at a playoff birth that the officials will help us out for the greater good of the conference.... it's about the money for Dalaney after all right?
November 20th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
Do we ever get fair officiating?
November 20th, 2018 at 1:58 PM ^
If the B1G wants a team in the CFP we will get an honestly called game. With Delaney it's usually all about the $$$ so I would guess we may even get a call or two.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:58 PM ^
In this exhibit, ref is thinking about what he wants on his chipotle burrito. He is very upset about what just happened on the field.
November 20th, 2018 at 1:59 PM ^
Michigan has bad history with coaches about to retire, so probably not. M is good enough to win anyway.
November 20th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
Is a cooler safe from poop in Ohio? Same answer...
November 20th, 2018 at 2:03 PM ^
we have a better shot at the cfp than they do, so we should get the favorable whistles.
November 20th, 2018 at 2:05 PM ^
Look,
Michigan is going to be ready for this game. We will get a fair shake with the officials since Jim has already publicly called them out for all of the terrible stuff that's happened this year. ESPECIALLY the Higdon holding call. That was the worst call I have ever witnessed.
Michigan is not going to get screwed over in this game, but there are going to be a shit ton of PI calls since Haskins is going to throw deep practically all game. That is inevitable. It's going to happen. But once we get pressure on him, he will make bad decisions and end up throwing picks.
My feelingsball post.
Go Blue! I got a feelin y'all!
31-17 Michigan!
November 20th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
Ref crew that did the MSU game this year seemed fair.
Can't have OSU fan refs like in 16'. The kids work too hard to get jobbed like that...
November 20th, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
I agree. I thought the Wisconsin game was the best officiated game that I've seen in a long time, but maybe that was just the cleanest game we've had in that span.
All we want is fairness. The officials won't get them all right, but when a replay shows us committing a penalty, can't really say much.
I forget which play (Maybe the Higdon 4th down conversion) against Indiana, but FS1 replayed it at least twice, and it showed a blatant hold by Runyan (IIRC) that wasn't called.
November 20th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
It's called a history lesson, jackass.
November 20th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
You really expect an MSU/OSU fan to be intelligent enough to understand history lessons? I mean let's realize the type of people we're talking about here.
November 20th, 2018 at 4:33 PM ^
Would it be too much to ask for new account creation to be disabled for the next week?
November 20th, 2018 at 2:34 PM ^
If the B1G helps OSU they are idiots because win or lose, OSU isn't going to the playoffs.
November 20th, 2018 at 2:34 PM ^
Take the ref equation out. Crush osu early, put it away and out of reach. This game will be a crescendo of the offense and defense putting a beat down in cbus.
November 20th, 2018 at 2:43 PM ^
Let’s not keep it close this year so we don’t have to worry about an official not spotting the ball properly...and can just win the game outright.
November 20th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
Hey, it’s me from the future again. Here to answer stupid and impossible to answer questions (unless you are from the future like me). Yeah, the officiating will be shitty but equally shitty like usual. If UM scores more points than OSU, they will win regardless. I already know the score (I’m from the future) but don’t want to spoil it.
Go Blue
November 20th, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
Hey it’s me from the past. 2016 know your history.
November 20th, 2018 at 4:15 PM ^
my bad, totally forgot about the refs that caused those turnovers.
November 20th, 2018 at 4:28 PM ^
also, before and if you reply back, I have zero interest in debating this. I know that game was bad in terms of officiating. The calls were probably one sided. I am just in the camp that you control what you can control. Lots of people say UM would have won if the officiating was better which may be true. I prefer to go with UM may have won if they didn’t turn the ball over and/or made a couple more defensive plays on third down. One thing you can control, the other you can’t. Again no need to debate as it’s in the past and hopefully UM plays well enough to overcome potential bad calls. College refs are terrible without conspiracy theories, don’t allow the game to be decided by them.
