Yes, yes he is.
November 14th, 2018 at 9:27 PM ^
Coaching staffs on both basketball/football are like fantasy squads right now.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
Do not let him get away.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
The entire coaching staff appears to be of the highest Gandalf-type quality.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
Loved watching that!
November 14th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
Next Brad Stevens.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
You said it all brother.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
When you say Luuuuke Yaklich.....you've said it all. You forgot the first line.....
November 14th, 2018 at 8:48 PM ^
Lmao at all the board slappys that thought DeJulius should start over Z.
November 14th, 2018 at 9:04 PM ^
First time I saw dejulius play .. give them a break..because he is a very good player. His shot from three is smooth as butter . I can see the root of their enthusiasm
November 14th, 2018 at 10:49 PM ^
DeJulius will have a better career than Z when’s it’s all done
November 15th, 2018 at 3:08 AM ^
Zavier Simpson won't be a pro and his offensive numbers may not be as good, but he's one of the best defenders in the history of Michigan basketball. That shows up in wins but not always the box score (even though he did have 5 steals tonight!!).
Z will also likely end up with one of the best, if not the best career winning percentages as a starting PG at Michigan. In fact, I'd be curious to see where he compares now to Jalen Rose and Trey Burke and Derrick Walton.
The guy is an incredible leader, winner and absolute bulldog defender.
November 15th, 2018 at 10:31 AM ^
Don't forget General Grant or Ricky "Rick the Quick" Green when looking up those wins under all time great PG's!
November 14th, 2018 at 8:49 PM ^
That was impressive! No one will want to play us.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:50 PM ^
I really hope we can keep him until Beilein retires so he can take over.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:58 PM ^
That would require Beilein to retire sooner rather than later, which I'm not a fan of. I think we have to accept that Yaklich is getting a head gig soon, but hopefully he is successful and an extremely viable candidate when Beilein does hang it up.
November 14th, 2018 at 10:00 PM ^
I would actually prefer he leave and get head coaching experience if we go that route. Then if he does well than he can get a shot at the job when Beilein leaves.
November 14th, 2018 at 10:05 PM ^
The Mel Pearson route.
November 15th, 2018 at 2:45 AM ^
whatever we need to pay this man to keep him, it’s worth it.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:51 PM ^
Yaklich is Don Brown on a basketball court. It's insane how quickly he's made such a significant impact.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:56 PM ^
All Luke needs now is a strong mustache
November 14th, 2018 at 8:58 PM ^
And a baseball bat.
November 14th, 2018 at 9:34 PM ^
and a bent pinky
November 14th, 2018 at 9:06 PM ^
He has been amazing as a defensive coach. I wonder how he would be as a head coach when he has to run an offense...
November 15th, 2018 at 3:11 AM ^
He can hire Beilein's son to do that.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:51 PM ^
By chance is he Don Brown's nephew?
November 14th, 2018 at 8:51 PM ^
feverishly refreshing kenpom
November 14th, 2018 at 11:35 PM ^
I prefer Bart Torvik.
http://barttorvik.com/#
We're up to 9th in his rankings.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
The players are buying in, even the freshmen.
we have some dudes.
November 14th, 2018 at 9:54 PM ^
IGGY surprised the shit out of me, once he consistently hits the 3...holy shit. Lots of posterizing in his future. Plus all the swag...damn
November 14th, 2018 at 10:02 PM ^
I didn't get to watch the whole game, but what I saw from Iggy screams one and done. I really hope not - he needs to stay and mature! But OHH BOY what a player he is!!
November 15th, 2018 at 3:13 AM ^
Yep, he's probably a one-and-done. Enjoy this season, because I bet he won't be back.
Very impressed with his defense, which was the big question mark for him.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:53 PM ^
and to think he came here from a cold call. . .
November 14th, 2018 at 9:08 PM ^
Michigan and getting amazing defensive minds from cold calls, name a better pair.
November 14th, 2018 at 9:48 PM ^
Yeah. Harbaugh and Beilein found their DC's by looking on the Internet. The rest of coaching wants to know what exactly they put in the Google search bar.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:54 PM ^
Imagine a team coached by Luke yaklich and don brown. It would be an impenetrable wall.
November 14th, 2018 at 10:42 PM ^
Imagine Don Brown as a veteran cop teamed up with Luke Yaklich as a young cop in order to chase down runaway offenses.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:57 PM ^
May he stay with us for a while!
November 14th, 2018 at 8:59 PM ^
That is not all. Let’s give some credit to the players. Z, Teske and Matthews should be 1st team all-big 10 defense by season’s end. The rest of the players are doing their part and not giving anyone an open look. A coach is only as good as the players he has to work with. We definitely played like the more veteran team. After losing 3 guys from last season, that’s saying something.
November 14th, 2018 at 10:47 PM ^
Just finished watching a replay. We knew those three were going to be real good. I was impressed by Iggy, who Nova got isolated on Paschall a bunch. And that went fine for us. Pretty good for a freshman.
November 15th, 2018 at 12:22 AM ^
Mathews' shot-blocking ability (prob his most underrated quality) is awesome and not something you typically see in a forward/wing-style player. His help defense will be an asset to this team.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:59 PM ^
Luke Yaklich = Don Brown
November 14th, 2018 at 9:02 PM ^
pay the man! keep him here!
November 14th, 2018 at 9:10 PM ^
But he can't recruit Detroit.
/s
November 14th, 2018 at 9:21 PM ^
Read the ESPN (I think?) thing on him the other day and he didn't want to admit how many hours he watches film per week. Now I really want to know. 25? 40? 60?
November 14th, 2018 at 9:24 PM ^
phenomenal coaching.
the guy is the bball equivalent of coach Brown...
i thought they could squeek out a win, but this was a beatdown!
Coach Beilein is a god
November 14th, 2018 at 9:52 PM ^
I remember when a very large part of this board wanted Beilein gone. Where did y'all go??
November 14th, 2018 at 9:59 PM ^
Really, really impressive. I wish I had more time so I could write up a diary on what he did. But look at how we were playing their wings tonight. Contrast that to what is going on with Marquette vs. Romeo Langford right now. Look at the angles and positioning for our D on the wings, while the ball was still at the point, vs. the more traditional angles that Marquette is taking.
