Is Mike Dantoni long for msu ?

Submitted by Wings Of Distinction on October 22nd, 2018 at 4:16 PM

The mork run in East Landfill is on fumes.

Eventually all facades are seen through. The truth is he wants to play the victim, after being a bully.

This latest attempt at creating a disrespect situation has blown up in his face.

Not to mention all the off-field attrocities committed under his umbrella of enablement.

And we like to say THEY are obsessed.

Look, Dantonio, is the PERFECT head coach for their program and has enjoyed more success there than the last 10 coaches put together.  He genuinely hates Michigan (a positive) and he has a very good win/loss record against us (an even bigger positive).

If you think for one second they are looking to replace him you're nuts.

And this is EXACTLY what I want Sparty to think, because while Mork is 8-4 today, I am strongly believing that he will get to 10 losses before he gets to 10 wins against us, if he stayed that long.

Look, Mork is 6-1 against RR and Hoke.  He is now 2-3 against a competent coach and everyone knows that one of those 2 wins was by the craziest ending ever.  That means his team has been outplayed and out coached 4/5 times.  And with JMFH hanging around, I'll take my 4/5 chances going forward.

He was a good coach against Rich Rod and Hoke. He got a real big, once in a lifetime break in a game or he is 1-3 against Harbaugh.

He is a good coach and has won some big games, but in the last 33 games, he is 17-16...2-2 against uofm, 0-3 against northwestern, 2-1 against penn state, 1-2 against osu, 0-1 aginst wiscy. Take that shit show performance from osu away in 2015 and he doesn’t look very impressive lately. Definitely the best coach MSU has had in a long time.

he doesn’t handle off the field issues well or press questions either.

WTF, is this bad thread day or what? FFS people, UM kicked the shit out of Sparty two days ago, who gives a rat's ass about that trash program going forward.

He was good when MSU, U-M and PSU combined for 6 coaching changes. Michigan was this close to taking them down another notch in 2015 and 2017 and it if weren't for those 2 games, Mork would already be on thinner ice. Let's get him again next year with an o-line that will only get better.

Dantoni has had a lot of success, therefore MSU will not fire him unless they are forced to as a result of off the field issues. Thus far MSU has been willing to live with any off the field issues and will probably continue to do so.  I really find it amazing that people are suggesting that he will be fired now.

He's not getting fired.  The only realistic scenario in which I see Dantonio leaving MSU any time soon is if he doesn't think he can win with the talent he has and decides to call it a career.  But he's only 62.  Maybe if he was 65 or 68 I'd see that as much more likely.

It seems like people are a bit slow to come to grips with the idea that the B1G East division isn't as good as everyone thought.  MSU was overrated, Franklin is an idiot without a good OC to counterbalance and missing the tools he had last year, and OSU with a one-dimensional offense and porous defense is turning into a dumpster fire.  M really looks like the best team in the east so far.

Stop with this. His team almost scored a point in a playoff game once. He's going to go down in MSU lore for that achievement.

blown up in his face?  How?  Because some UM fans are upset about their pregame walk?

I don't think they give a shit about that. As far as spartan world is concerned, it's all just more justification for the perpetual chip on the shoulder: totally unprovoked aggression, disrespect, and slander by UM.

What MSU is facing is the fact that their best class ever, the 2016 class imploded, players in jail, players retiring, players transfering and graduating, the depth isn't there

No playmakers

No OL depth (we have witnessed this for several years and we are just starting to crawl out of it)

Average QB play

No steller defense.....

Mediocrity is settling in at East Landfill and their is no rainbow or pot of gold in sight to save them....

People wanting to push him out need to give up.  He's presiding over the second best stretch in program history.  He's not very old.  He still has a winning record against Michigan.  He's not going anywhere barring some giant scandal or a health issue.

SwordDancer710

He'll be there until he starts losing to UM regularly. By then, the AD, other coaches, the entire athletic department, board of regents, and president will have succumbed to the scandal.

I give him 3 years.

Mark Dantonio will be MSU's coach as long as he wants.  He is 8-3 vs Michigan which is the only statistic that defines him and his university.

Next year he will show up to Ann Arbor with a ton of frippery saved just for the game, and will mortgage away two or three games to prep for the only one that matters.

Dantonio has already "won" in that watching Michigan celebrate as much as we did in beating Little Brother is evidence of his impact on the rivalry.  20 years ago beating MSU was an afterthought.  Now it is a grand occasion, and that has been Dantonio's gift to MSU.

The problem is MSU now has Michigan's full attention going forward.  Good luck with that little brother.

They're sliding either way.  A more relevant question may be how longer Urbs has.  He did not look good Saturday and he's one to bail fast if things get tough.

This is a coach that is probably going to have a statue outside of Spartan Stadium someday (at the very least, some athletic building named after him). They are not going to fire him. He did more for their program since their coach in the 1950's. Think about that. In fact, I could see MSU doing what Michigan did for Hoke when he was forced to fire Borges: Throw money for a "quality" assistant coach (hopefully as horrible as Nussmeier) to right things. If anything then, they'll give him time to get that magic back. And he might have a few good seasons left, so I'm not exactly throwing dirt on his grave just yet.

Think about this: Even if Dantonio quits, MSU is only going to keep him close and hire him as AD or something. Things would get interesting in that scenario, would it not? Because although he wouldn't be patrolling the sidelines anymore as the head man, he would still influence the program in his vision much like Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin.

I said this last week before the game..if they lose three in a row to us he'll be gone. Whether that's fired or 'promoted' to Associate AD or retired or whatever it is. The dude's mojo is entirely based on kicking us in the nuts, if the perception shifts to 'loser' vs us...they're gonna try to move on. He isn't the youngest, not exactly a great salesman or someone with an affable personality. Looks great if you can twist Michigan's balls once a year..looks awful once the table's turned.

If I were him honestly I would look to move on. I’m not saying this because of the MSU vs UofM rivalry. I think he’s a good coach and as a fellow coach I am always looking for a great challenge and always wanted to know if my system would work at a larger school.

I could see him getting a look at usc or Texas or Auburn if they make moves. Just my take on things.

MSU will never do any better than Mike D. He's gonna be there for a while even though the 7-5, 8-4 type of seasons will become common for them Going forward. I'm cool with that

Mike D'antonio?  The sophomore zoology major from Holland?  I heard he struggled in Cell Biology but he's got a really sweet girlfriend from Port Huron, so I bet he's back next year.

His Opera of Grievances plays so well with the Michigan State fanbase. Even if he weren't the most successful coach in the history of their program, he captures the zeigeist of Sparty so exquisitely I can't see him ever getting fired.
