Dax Hill tea-leaves.

Submitted by Bo Nederlander on

On a previous article written by Lorenz ($$ so I can't divulge much) Lorenz points out that Dax has a group text going with several other Michigan recruits.

Sam posted an article (also $$ so same rules apply) that Dax's biggest thing is the people he is potentially committed with but wouldn't name which school. From Lorenz's previous post and some other pretty revealing tea-leaves, I feel extra good about getting him now.

Also, Lewis Cine will be in attendance for an UNoffial for Nebraska, I believe.

I hope this is OK to post.

Having grown up in the southeast, I know many people who attended Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, etc.

Granted, they don't rank as highly as Michigan, but they can make a similar argument:

"How? I challenged my self [sic] and networked. [Insert large public university here] alumni everywhere and got into my career based on that. Not sure I can replicate it."

Denigrating other schools as sub-par on some imaginary scale of excellence is pointless and, frankly, quite snotty.

I am not denigrating. When alabama says they are better at football than other schools they are denigrating? No.

Michigan academics ARE better. Thats the point. There is a difference between good and better and best. Imaginary scale? I attended medical school, and there is DEFINITELY a scale. Going to harvard or Michigan medical school is different than going to your state medical school. Sorry if you feel that is snotty. Tell that to the next world class researcher at Michigan who is busting balls to find therapeutic breakthroughs while such research is not done or possible at other schools. Get a clue.

Why did DPJ come to Michigan? Think about that.

No. Thats basic competence. I think people are misunderstanding. You can find docs anywhere. Same for surgeon. But world class research (read ACADEMICS) happens at few places. Michigan, Stanford, NW, Harvard etc.

What you are mentioning is clinical medicine. You hope you can find competent surgeon but guess what, if you have a complicated cancer in midwest, you are getting referred to giant tertiary care center like UM hospital. See the difference?

Point is there is a difference. Quality matters. UM is quality.

Another aspect of "Academics" is the support the players receive.
What kind of academic study center is provided, how many & how good are the tutors?  24/7?
This doesn't necessarily mean "who will do my homework for me?" although in some cases I'm sure it does.

Michigan being such a prestigious university can also be a double-edged sword; it can be a little bit intimidating for some kids.
They may love the idea of a Michigan degree, but how the hell are they going to pass classes and succeed on the football field at the same time.  They must be convinced that the degree IS important, and that the school will do everything (legally & ethically) to help them.

There are a lot of factors and definitions for different players in the simple word "Academics".

If what he is saying about relationships with current commits being a huge deal for him, then things look good for us imo

I'm just scared this is gonna be a Najee Harris 2.0 scenario

Nah, I'm actually pretty upbeat about this season still, and think this is a team that will finish out strong. But there just simply isn't a way this recruitment goes in our favor, and if you read the article without optimistic rose-colored glasses it's pretty obvious.

Did you think Sam Webb was going to fly out to Tulsa for three days and come back with a series or articles which indicate that he's leaning toward Alabama? No, he was going to ask questions which made the reader believe Michigan has a strong shot at a guy from Oklahoma with no Michigan ties and has been an Alabama lean for a long time.

Just remember, Sam Webb is always going to butter his own bread first. After enough obvious examples in the last 10 years, I can't believe people still fall for it.

Dax Hill sounds to me like a kid who has already decided that he’s going to Alabama, but wants to take a few more visits just for shits.

did you read what his parents had to say? did you actually read what he had to say? they are definitely not just going somewhere to go somewhere. if that were the case would you really go to Michigan in September, or the U or USC/UCLA. you could go to somewhere nice, have a good weekend in the sun and be done with it. They told him not to commit to a school this summer because he was being pressured by the coaching staff at that school.

I have a sad feeling he's goin to Bama. It never works out for us with these types of kids when we're goin up against bama. He would be loved here though!

OK guys, what are the numbers? How many more guys can we take? Keegan, Dax, Kyle Ford, the other big OT from Minnesota,  Cine, the Baylor commit, Sam said the other day he thought (sp) Sanrestil was a silent, and there is another kid we were in his final group for, whose name escapes me right now.

The "attrition list" will be significant if all those kids commit...including some very nice players who are buried down the depth chart. I would (also) take Harrison, Karlaftis, Johnson (Rodas), Ike and Sanguinetti in a heart beat.

Personally, on the Michigan recruiting front, I believe that the calmness is a very good sign.

Some of those recruits are redundant. We're not looking to take Ford and Ellis, the Baylor commit. It's notable that Ellis said he'll be committing (this time for real) on Jan 5. We're not looking to take two more OTs. There's also the possibility of attrition from the recruiting class, not just the roster.

Winning cures all, however after reading Webb's article Dax seems to be a little different then most. His dads comment is very telling, and could go either way. Competing against BAMA on and off the field is extremely difficult, however Michigan has had some success "off the field" the past few years in regards to recruits. If and when Michigan starts to win BIG these types of recruiting battles will become a lot easier. Let's hope that starts sooner than later.

I’m not sure if anyone is thinking this, but I’ll go ahead and say it, Dax Hill is coming to Michigan, everything you read for the most part seems encouraging, lastnight I decided to check his twitter out and most of his favorites have been from current Michigan commits, his last follow was coach Harbaugh, and nothing but other commits and coaches for probably the next 15 follows he’s made, if he didn’t commit I’d be bamboozled

As an Oklahoma guy for the last 15 years... and watching this kid pick off our QB 3 times last year, I hope he takes the leap up North.  It's not too common for top flight Oklahoma talent to go that far north.  They typically stay in Big 12 and SEC country.  With that said, I think this is squarely between Michigan and Oklahoma.  The Bama offer is a good resume stuffer but I dont see him going there.  Lets hope for a great official visit this weekend!
