Eh, the article left a lot of unanswered questions with respect to the TV rights issues. For one, I highly doubt that the negotiation for TV rights follows the typical highest bidder model because ESPN has lower total viewship than NBC/Fox/CBS because they're on cable. Thus, a dollar from NBC/Fox/CBS is worth more than a dollar from ESPN, since going to NBC/Fox/CBS increases exposure for the NFL by penetrating more households. Plus, ESPN makes more money per viewer than NBC/Fox/CBS since they receive $6 per subscriber when NBC/Fox/CBS don't, so the live rights are worth more to ESPN than to NBC/Fox/CBS.
In order to truly determine whether ESPN overbid for TV rights, you'd have to do a complicated analysis of the added subscriber revenue brought in from the TV rights and the value perceived by the NFL in selling rights to a channel with more viewers (NBC/Fox/CBS) vs. a channel with less viewers (ESPN), which neither Yahoo nor the article they cited did, so the conclusion is kind of bunk (though it might still be true--even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile).

Eh, they hit the marching band members guarding the sparty statue at 4am. It's not as egregious as chucking paint balloons at random pedestrians trying to get to class. They targeted a group of people who, presumably, volunteered to be frontlines in the rivalry warzone. Hell, if I were one of the guys guarding the diag at 4am, I'd probably be excited at the prospect of seeing some action and having a story to tell in later years rather than getting through the week without incident.
This isn't nearly the outrageous indignity some people make it out to be. It's college.

Nothing piques a teenager's interest quite like telling said teenager that X is prohibited or discouraging teenager from doing X.
Urban discouraging a recruit from visiting Michigan will go about as well as a parent telling their kid to stay away from alcohol.

Reminds me of Reggie Miller's 8 points in 8.9 seconds against the Knicks. Must be something about the Knicks.
On topic, amazing sequence for Lewandowski. Looked like he was playing Fifa on easy mode. Wonder if he'll be on the Team of the Week on Fifa 16.

Eh. The chance of a small school getting better is non-zero. And I bet it's a lot more tolerable when you are mediocre and you're supposed to be mediocre, as opposed to being a fan of a Michigan or Texas team in a year when they suck donkey balls.
At least when I go see the local MWC team play, there's no traffic to or from the game, the tickets are like $10, parking's free, the food is cheap, and I can stretch my legs into the empty seats in front of me. Going to a 2014 Michigan game, my team is crap, everything is expensive, and I'm sitting in traffic on I-94 for two hours before and after the game.

Article on Freep says Avila signed a long term contract with the Tigers.
It also says that the Tigers denied permission to the Mariners (2008) and the Angels (2011) to interview Avila for a GM spot.
Maybe Dombrowski always intended to leave after his contract was up after this year? I hope that's the case because the Tigers firing Dombrowski is dumb, IMO.

For some reason I have a very specific memory of watching Game 162 in 2003 on the shitty TV in the lobby of University Towers, with Mike Maroth getting the W and the Tigers avoiding breaking the Mets record for most losses in a season. As shitty as that season was, the last week when the Tigers went something like 5-1 to avoid breaking the Mets record was kind of awesome in its own way.

Hahaha, agree 100%.
Ahhhhhh, reminds me of a certain football team that suffered years of mediocrity until they hired a coach that sent them to 2 NFC Conference Championships and 1 Super Bowl, and they inexplicably fired him because he didn't win a Super Bowl.
That team has about as bleak a future as the Tigers right now.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||It's worth noting that||
It's worth noting that Cespedes was NOT eligible for a qualifying offer from the Tigers, meaning the Tigers literally got something for nothing. Without the qualifying offer, Cespedes is worth considarably less on the trade deadline market because the Tigers had no advantage in resigning him with a qualifying offer and would not have gotten a compensatory pick if Cespedes signed elsewhere. Fulmer is a GREAT get.

I knew it was a Taken reference. I knew it was supposed to be a joke.
The joke would have been funnier if, you know, Brian didn't actually CARRY OUT HIS THREAT by naming the kid in his post and posting his picture.
I mean, how fucking creepy is it that Brian trawls through Facebook/Twitter/Instagram for embarassing personal information when he encounters someone who has stupid ideas that he disagrees with? Is he using my hidden personal information associated with my MGoBlog account to trawl the Internet for information about me? Sounds fucking ridiculous and immature but apparently not to Brian.

Agree 100%. Song idea sounded dumb and probably wouldn't have gotten any traction. In the unlikely event that it did get traction, that means it did so through a democratic process so whatevs. But that's purely hypothetical. It was a bad idea that would've gone nowhere.
Brian was 100% a dick in his response. Disagreeing with the merits of the idea was fine. Threatening to destroy the career prospects of everyone involved, even jokingly (which apparently it was not given the personal info about the guy in the post), was pure 100% unadulterated scumbag.
Dick move Brian. I give ZERO shits what you do with me, my Facebook pictures, my Twitter, my Instagram, my user account here, or this post. I *DARE* you to retaliate against me, asshole. Because I'm standing up to you and your petty, retaliatory bullying.

Exactly. NLI's aren't going anywhere. I doubt this year's schenanigans will be a regular occurrance. You can be damn sure that next recruiting cycle, rival schools are going to absolutely torch UCLA and OSU for what happened this year.
Bottom line is, the rights being given up via the NLI aren't a big deal from a perspective recruit. EVERY parent will tell you the same thing: "Keep your options open" is advice falling on deaf ears to a teenager.
Not signing an NLI is a option available only to maybe the top 5% recruits in the country. No one else has the cache to demand that the school hold onto their spot without an NLI. It's like telling someone "Hey, don't sign a non-compete clause with your employer. It's 100% benefit to your employer, 0% benefit to you." Thanks for the advice, mister. Too bad it's not always a realistic option. Unless you're a rock star in your field, they'll just give the job to someone else who is willing to agree to their terms.

Agree 100% on the DC issue. If Harbaugh comes to Michigan, Fangio may be promoted to HC which raises a huge question as to who Harbaugh brings as DC to Michigan.

One data point I'd like to add about 2013 is that Kaepernick did not have Crabtree for most of that year (only played 5 games), so you'd think his numbers in 2014 would be better than 2013 rather than worse.
I also respectfully disagree with the Stafford comparison, because I think Stafford's an average to below-average QB held up by an outstanding defense. His 2 red zone INTs last game show that he is not a good game manager and is still gunslinging.

My edit had everything to do with the guys telling me to shut up, calling me a dick and now calling for my ban, and nothing about "points." I couldn't give 2 shits about "points."
Whatever. This forum is hilariously vitriolic. I posted a link to an article that pointed out negatives about Harbaugh (and even pointed out the sour grapes angle) and I'm being tarred and feathered for it. SORRY. I shall recite 100 HAIL TO THE VICTORS and 100 THE HARBAUGH'S PRAYERS in repentence.

I'm not endorsing Shaw, i'm just throwing his name out there as a prediction. Shaw kind of fits Cowherd's vague "mystery candidate" description. Plus there's a Brian Griese interview where Griese says he's involved in the process but refuses to name names. But later in the interview he talks about how Schlissel's vision for Michigan is similar to what Stanford is doing. Plus if Harbaugh isn't interested, he'd probably recommend Shaw.

I'm calling it: Hoke wins coach of the year with CSU in 2017. Edit: CSU and Arizona amazingly share a national championship by somehow ending the National Championship Game in a tie. Michigan fires Coach Harbaugh because he brough Greg Roman with him as OC and our offense still sucks. But we'll still be good at basketball.

Is there any NCAA preventing one of us from starting a Harbaugh kickstarter? You know, take donations from fans and alumni and say, "Hey Harbaugh, if you accept the Michigan job you can have this sack of cash!"

Some people here may be shocked to learn that the vast majority of Michigan alumni don't give a @$&* about Michigan sports, basketball infinitely more so than football. So the fact that a donation call came during the last two minutes of a basketball game, WHICH WAS PLAYED ON THE BIGGEST DONATION DAY OF THE YEAR, is not surprising if you understand the concept that "OMG, not everybody who went to Michigan is exactly like me!"
