That might, in fact, be what this is all about. "Sources: Draymond Green, Jordan Poole altercation boiling since training camp over contract extension"

https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-draymond-green-jordan-poole-altercation-boiling-since-training-camp-over-contract-extension-030150321.html

If so you would think a grown man like Green would have the common sense not to let jealousy boil over on him publicly, and end up a laughing stock. Or not. If the story is true, he no longer has that option.

EDIT: Supplying a new link; the original included this story, picked up by aol.com. Subtext of three or four pieces I'm reading seems to be that Draymond is unhappy he has to wait for an extension while Poole is getting big money now, maybe that there's a perception Poole is feeling full of beans as he moves into the limelight. My money would be on the guy who can make shots. Green has had his (belligerent) moment, but will find he's expendable at some point.

Fights in sports are subject to legal scrutiny, it just so happens that most jurisdictions have carve outs that revolve around consent and foreseeability.  E.g., if you play hockey, you consent to the reasonably foreseeability possibility that a fight breaks out, even though fights are clearly against the rules of hockey.

Fights in basketball are less common than hockey, but Bill Laimbeer Combat Basketball was a thing, so it's not entirely unforeseeable.

I get that, because of the physicality of sports, there will be dust ups from time to time.  But that isn't what this article is reporting.  They are reporting that the motivation for the altercation was Draymond being pissed Poole was getting an extension and he was still having to play out the final year of his contract.

Just some further insight via ESPN:

"The two players had been verbally sparring prior to some pushing, which escalated when Green took a swing and made contact with Poole, sources said. Team officials are reviewing the episode, sources said."

"Poole wasn't hurt by the punch and completed his workout before leaving the practice floor on Wednesday, sources said."

I wish this one were true. It's too good to check.

Rule 1: If one finds oneself in a physical altercation with Draymond Green, first and foremost, cover thy balls!

Rule 2: Remember you're dealing with someone who met MSU's entrance requirements AND believes the Earth is flat.

Rule 3: See Rule 1.

I guess Draymond doesn't understand that, at this point in his career, it's really unwise to force an organization to make a decision between him and a player 9 years younger and ~$22M/year cheaper than him.
