OT: Jerry Kill suffers another seizure today
Per GophersNow. http://twitter.com/#!/GophersNow
It's the 3rd tweet down.
EDIT: Kill released in a press statement that "We believe that taking some time away to get a handle on this is the right thing to do."

Upcoming game or not, that's never good to hear. I wish him a qick recovery.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:02 PM ^
It's time for him to focus on his health
September 25th, 2011 at 6:49 PM ^
i watched last night game and thought towards the end, he did not look very good at all. His face looked red and blotchy, clearly not healthy, and it did not look like he was just PO'd about how poorly his team played; it looked more than that. I would not be surprised to hear that the seizure started near the end of last nights game and manifested later on well after the game.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:03 PM ^
How long until he's done? Can't have seizures every week or two..that's too bad..I wish him luck
September 25th, 2011 at 6:03 PM ^
Wow, as if Kill and Minnesota didn't have enough on their plates already. Hopefully this can get resolved and he can coach there for many years (but still never get the Jug back).
September 25th, 2011 at 6:09 PM ^
It is unfortunate knowing the work he put in to get a job in a major conference. I don't think you can continue to have that sort of reaction to the stress of his job.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:04 PM ^
I'm not surprised. Still better than the Vikings though. (zing!)
All joking aside though, that is really unfortunate. I have a lot of respect for him to keep on coaching through all the bad health luck life has thrown at him. Sounds like a guy who inspires by example and definitely deserves better than a dead end place like Minnesota. Hopefully he can get the ship righted and make for some exciting jug games like we had when Mason was there.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:07 PM ^
That's really unfortunate. With the workload, hours and stress that come with being a head football coach (and the additional stress being at Minnesota) I really think he is going to have to make a decision on his future. Hope he makes a full recovery.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:10 PM ^
I'm a die hard Michigan fan (from Plymouth, MI), but I have lived in Minneapolis since '99. I thought the Gophers finally hired an excellent coach. I wish him and his family all the best and hope he can bring the Gophers back to relevance so Michigan can really enjoy winning the Brown Jug!
September 25th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
because of me! I moved in on 1 Jan 98. Yes, I watched the game on my TV using rabbit ears for an antenna.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:11 PM ^
I wish him a speedy recovery, or at the very least, someone will find the cause and help him manage his symptoms. That's never good to hear, but at least he has chosen to focus on his health, which is the best thing to do for him and his family.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:21 PM ^
It is not known yet if he will coach saturday.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:22 PM ^
Wish him the best.
I have a question for the OP -- do you actually follow a Twitter account about Minnesota football? If you do to help you scout them as an opponent or something, then wow, thank you for making me feel a little more sane about my insane fandom.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:36 PM ^
Someone I'm following retweeted it.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
that's not good news. Hopefully he can come back healthy and have success at Minnesota (except when they play Michigan).
September 25th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
Does anyone know if this has become more frequent since he's been at Minnesota? I know that he's dealt with the underlying disorder for awhile, but I don't know if he was having seizures this frequently at Northern Illinois.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
September 25th, 2011 at 6:28 PM ^
I hope he is okay. Maybe he should take the rest of the season - or at least a few weeks - off. His health is the most important thing.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:32 PM ^
Wish him the best.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
Watched his episode of Inside My Office on BTN -- class act. I wish him the best.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
I wonder what causes such things in his case? Stress contributes to all sorts of health issues but makes one wonder if there's something underlying.
September 25th, 2011 at 8:21 PM ^
Not jumping to conclusions by any means but hopeful it isn't related to cancer - something he already fought.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
That is really too bad. I wonder if the new job is the culprit or if there is something else going on like his medications. Regardless, I wish him the best.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:48 PM ^
September 25th, 2011 at 6:50 PM ^
something that when he recovered from cancer it was known that seizures would occur if he didnt stay hydrated or have his blood sugar at the right level. they also said this is a regular occurance and they are never too serious. i hope he makes a full recovery and is back on the sidelines as soon as possible.
September 25th, 2011 at 6:53 PM ^
And his doctors can get this under control
September 25th, 2011 at 6:56 PM ^
That's not good. I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
September 25th, 2011 at 7:06 PM ^
But i also have Epilepsey and he needs to foucs on his health and take some time off. I hope he can get back to coaching, but if not, i hope he gets the best care he can get.
September 25th, 2011 at 7:25 PM ^
Hope we as fans on Saturday can find a way to show our respect and concern. Maybe by at least not booing Minnesota when they're announced. This is a tough situation for them and he really does seem like a class act. Hope he gets his health in order and can continue to coach.
September 25th, 2011 at 7:47 PM ^
I would like to see it done. Unfortunately, the percentage of fans in the big house that are aware of his problems is most likely vastly outnumbered by the bunch that boo anything not maize and blue. The only way I can see this happening is if they make an announcement, much like they did last year when the band director from UMass passed away.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:46 PM ^
Last year, even before the announcement of UMass, most people knew. In fact, most people in our section were discussing it before the game began. I suspect the same will be true. This is not a secret, and I expect the M crowd to be respectful. After all, there isn't a person in the stadium who can't identify with a guy recovering from cancer.
September 25th, 2011 at 7:27 PM ^
Coaching is a 100 hour a week job. It brings down people who are perfectly healthy. He is obviously prone to seizures; maybe a job that requires 40 hours a week or less would be the way to go. I hope he can catch on with the media.
September 25th, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
I'm afraid you are right.
September 25th, 2011 at 7:52 PM ^
Best possible recovery for Coak JK. Man that has to be tough.
September 25th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
I don't know if it's wise to continue to be a big time football coach with those problems. It's stressful enough to coach under that kind of pressure with relatively good health.
September 25th, 2011 at 8:43 PM ^
Hopefully he has a full and speedy recovery. It's too bad that something like this has to happen to any coach.
September 25th, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
That guy should really stop watching Lady GaGa videos on youtube.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
Kill is a very good coach and a good recruiter also.
A lot of people live with epilepsy and other disorders that cause seizures. Medicines today are outstanding (compared to the past) in controlling seizures, all things being equal. But when you don't intake enough fluids, the medicines are ineffective and things aren't equal anymore.
Wish him a fast recovery.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
actually, this is way worse than just one new seizure.
"While Kill returned to coach in their game against Miami (Ohio) last week, and was on the sideline again Saturday for the Gophers' loss to North Dakota State, he admitted that he'd had 20 subsequent seizures in the six days following the initial incident."
He will not be on the sidelines for the Michigan game
" The school did not announce a timetable for Kill's return and didn't announce an interim coach for this weekend's game against Michigan, but Kill stressed in a statement that he was making his health a priority."

September 26th, 2011 at 8:51 PM ^
He should take the rest of the season off. That's scary.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
I really think Kill needs to move down a level or two in coaching. He has the talent to be a BCS level coach, but his body just won't let him. He should drop back to MAC school or FCS school where there is less stress and you don't have to work such insane hours.
Best of luck on his recovery and his future health, but it looks like he's done at Minny.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
It kind of depends what's causing them. If they are stress related then clearly it needs to be taken care of before he starts going into high stress situations. If it's not stress related and it's not doing any real damage to him then.... I don't know. I want this man to be able to live his life with this condition because he's a fighter and I don't know how that can happen.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:55 PM ^
very scary stuff.
I hope he can figure something out with his doctors that will let him keep pursuing his dreams, but health and family need to come first.
September 25th, 2011 at 11:40 PM ^
The minute he gets a big name job, his health holds him back. I wonder if he could take a leave of absence for a few months and try to recover for 2012. Not that Minn wants their brand new coach to leave, but it might be better for them in the long run.
September 26th, 2011 at 12:15 AM ^
From having cancer to now his issues with seizures this guy can't buy a break... Hope he gets well soon, he's such a likeable guy.
September 26th, 2011 at 12:21 AM ^
out to Coach Kill and take care of the health.
September 26th, 2011 at 12:36 AM ^
I've battled seizures and know the extensive limitations it will put on him at least in the short term until the doctors can get a handle on this and get the right meds for him.

I hope he and his family will take the most conservative approach...the kind of seizures he is having can lead to sudden death. Prayers for him...
September 26th, 2011 at 1:07 AM ^
I hope for the sake of our rivalry with that school in Minne$ota that he gets well soon.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:20 AM ^
I opened this thing praying that people wouldn't go there-- ie jokes in poor taste-- but didn't have faith that it would actually be the case.
Absolutely impressed that everyone handled this the right way-- Nice job, MGoBlog! Leaders and Best!
All prayers to a full recovery for Coach Kill. This is certainly a 'big picture' sort of scenario, and as much as we all try to prove otherwise, football is a game. A man's life, and more immediately, his quality of life, hangs in the balance here-- hope he can find some balance or otherwise peace in the decision-making that sits before him.
September 26th, 2011 at 4:34 PM ^
I just wanted to pop in and thank the Michigan fans, specifically those here on MGoBlog for being respectful about this situation with our coach. As you can imagine, some members of other fan bases aroung the B1G have been less than polite about the entire situation. Needless to say, it's stressful for the Gopher faithful, as we want Kill to be well for his family first and foremost, and hopefully beyond that for the Golden Gophers as well.
Thanks again
Go Gophers
