| 1 week 2 days ago | I hope by the time my child |
I hope by the time my child comes of age I feel football is safe again. As it stands though I feel that the NFL actively coverups the full impact of pro football on the body and there is little interest in studying the longterm playing of football on the brain. Basically training is significantly ahead of safety rght now. We're getting 300+ pound guys slamming into each other when they're 18 years old (the top recruits) and the safety equipment isn't keeping pace with the game.

Well I never had the genes to carry me past high school ball, so not a threat. Although Nebraska does have a Korean offensive lineman, so you never know. He's buried on their 2-Deep, but he still made it onto the team. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | If he was looking to play |
If he was looking to play beyond high school at a high level, only as a kicker. D-III college ball wouldn't bother me, but playing for Michigan would. The high level game has gone beyond physical and turned into a machine into which you feed your body. Of course it isn't like I can tell my son what to do after high school though, but I'd discourage it as much as possible. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | I would only follow a college |
I would only follow a college team if I attended college at that institution. So that would mean I'd be unhappy as a fan of anyone except Michigan, Purdue, or Northwestern since those are institutions I respect academically. Wisconsin is also okay I guess. |

I'm starting to think at some level we should get the mods to drop neg bombs (at least temp ones) on RR related content. With of course the obvious exception in cases where he says something related to his time at Michigan, another 3 And Out type book comes out, or AZ comes up on our schedule. A general takeaway we all learned from the RR era is that a bickering fanbase serves only to erode the program. As Brian says "Hoke Uber Alles". Going after past coaches (since both Carr and RR get dragged up regarding how the transition went down) is just counter productive. Hoke is movin to establish a stable regime, let us bask in the stability of it. |
| 1 week 4 days ago | Of course |
Of course it was a mistake. It was a desperation hire of an outsider. Martin had done shit in terms of securing a replacement for Carr. It seemed he just figured he'd grab Les Miles or something (a move MSC and Carr blocked). Whoever we hired was going to be a last minute desperation grab after a bunch of failures. The Michigan fanbase was pissed after the boating incident, the striking out on a freaking Rutgers coach (in hindsight, thanks for not coming Schiano), etc. Hiring RR was a mistake in that it was a grab at someone who had a bit of a national name without any regard for if he'd actually fit in. He clearly didn't. Part of that is on the AD for not prepping him properly for the press conferences, part of that is on how RR himself acted (the manner in which he fired Carr's staff for example). Even if RR had gone 12-0, the hiring process itself still would have been a screwup and Martin would deserve criticism for how he conducted the search for Carr's replacement. At the end of the day it isn't like we profited while RR suffered. The man was paid millions of dollars, we paid his buyout (instead of trying to use the sanctions or something as an excuse to fire him with cause), he did a year at CBS, and now he has a whole new BCS program to try again with. Also your point about the salaries is just plain pointless. Martin was a cheap bastard with assistant salaries, he always was. It wasn't like Carr era assistants were raking in the money. When Brandon took power he may have realized we were paying below industry average, but he also had to realize the alumni base would go up in flames if we handed out raises to the first coaching staff to manage back to back losing seasons at Michigan since the 1950s. Actually for that matter aside from Mattison, we weren't paying Hoke's assistants that much (relative to say Alabama) until they won the Sugar Bowl and Brandon kicked out the bonuses and new contracts to retain the talent. End of the day, the hring process was a mistake. RR himself also provided to be a mistake based on his ability to lead the program forward |
| 1 week 5 days ago | My idea was predicated on the |
My idea was predicated on the idea we go some kind of playoff system that renders the Rose Bowl meaningless. As in playoffs at a home field or something. At that point top teams would be going to the playoffs, not the bowls. So you either keep the Rose Bowl and send lesser teams to it, or you move it. |
| 1 week 5 days ago | The Rose Bowl has always been |
The Rose Bowl has always been home field advantage for the PAC12. Ever since it began. It is what it is. We can get revenge by inviting USC out for a November game in the Big House. |
| 1 week 5 days ago | Evolve The Rose Bowl |
Rather than try to cram the Rose Bowl into the play off system or run it in parallel, just evolve it. We have a scheduling agreement with the PAC12. Do something like have the Rose Bowl become the opening game of the season and a PAC-12 and B1G team play in it (Chik-a-fil Bowl with more class). Between the playoff and the conference championship games it feels like the end of the season is spoken for, so evolve the Rose Bowl into something that is meaningful and unique. Last year's B1G #1 vs PAC12 #1 as the opening game would be a damn good game and let a lot of TV attention. |
| 1 week 5 days ago | Yeah, that part pissed me |
Yeah, that part pissed me off. I'd fire that coach for sitting her. I coach youth hockey and had a religious school complain because I had two female players on my team. At the end of the second period it was 12-0 my team and the other coach asked me to call the dogs off. My response was "Sorry I posted that email you sent me about the girls in the locker room and promised the team free pizza and milkshakes if they put up 20 on you." Small annoying religious groups shouldn't field hockey teams in a public league and expect us to sit the female players... |
