Shane Morris starts. Borges simplifies playbook which actually makes offense more successful. Off season is annoying chorus of Borges defenders. The more Shane learns the more the offense regresses.
Sorry for that. My optimism has been shattered.

I love how everyone thinks Schwartz will be fired. I'll believe it when I see it. This is the Lions we're talking about. They always fire somebody three years too late.

It would take complete and utter failure for Dave Brandon to fire Brady Hoke.
|1 week 1 hour ago||Unfortunately I don't think||
Unfortunately I don't think Michigan will be taking any cues from Auburn anytime soon, which isn't to say that I don't think they should.
I'm not even going to propose a spread offense; it isn't happening and you don't have to be spread to be successful. I just hope that Hoke and co. find a scheme and stick with it all year. Offenses can get very complex once they establish a successful base. I hope next year Michigan establishes something before they divert practice time to do completely different things.
We're left to root for success as is, and I am, but I don't think Borges is a good coach, let alone a top one. With that said if he is able to find success with more star power and a defense that keeps getting better, I'm all for it. Reasonably I think retaining him will lead to him costing Michigan more games.
I am of the opinion that if you have to make excuses for a coach, he probably isn't a great coach, but sometimes non-great coaches can have success.

Thanks for all the work you do on this site, Brian. Believe me, there are those who feel like you do, but they aren't as loud as the critics. This site has spoiled the fanbase.

Amazing how it takes Gus Malzahn, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Art Briles, etc. so little time to rebuild. Michigan has rebuilt it's way to fewer losses each regular season, although if we beat our bowl opponent we will have the same record as last year with worse losses. But admitting that some coaches succeed immediately would totally undermine your image of Hoke as greatest coach ever.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||So it's ok for your offense||
So it's ok for your offense to look awful most of the year even though the offense has the ability to put up numbers on a consistent basis? I'm so glad we run an offense that would have won us 10 games consistently, but instead we work on out powering the defense and being predictable so we can get better at this next year and the year after? Maybe I'm missing your point, but if your defense of Borges is based on some development of bread and butter in the future than I heartily disagree. If you aren't getting the most out of your offense every week than you don't deserve to have a job. I get saving plays against weaker competition, but that goes out the window in close games. I don't need a spread offense, just a consistent one, and Borges offenses have been predictable and literally insane most of the year, and that shit isn't going to work even when he gets "his guys." Great coaches make immediate and consistent impact, and Al Borges will never be a great coach IMO. I don't mind the framework of his offense, but his play calling has been awful for the majority of this season and about half the time he's been here. A few gems don't make up for the multiple abortions.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||That statement is untrue.||
That statement is untrue. The people who say that the program is embracing mediocrity are frustrated that the program remains mediocre. Making no changes may keep continuity, but when the current staff has been getting bad results, especially offensively, it isn't unreasonable to expect changes and be disappointed by the lack thereof. To say that the coaches are also disappointed misses the point completely since they are the ones responsible for said mediocrity, but I guess pointing out bad results makes that person the one settling for mediocrity, not the coaches responsible for the, you know, actual results.

Except we have. And the very fact that you make that comment means something is wrong with Mr. Borges.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||If the offense performs next||
If the offense performs next year like they did this year than the fire should be under Hoke's ass. Four decent offensive performances in twelve games is completely and utterly unacceptable, and if Hoke is unwilling to hold people accountable, than he needs to be held accountable.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||When you have two NFL||
When you have two NFL tackles, a prolific QB, one of the best WRs in Michigan history and Funchess, you should never complain about personnel. Al Borges had two games this year where he came close to earning his paycheck and the rest looked like a tire fire. He shouldn't be retained IMO, but if yesterday was the rule and not the exception, "the writers here" probably wouldn't be upset.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Well written. I agree with||
Well written. I agree with pretty much every observation. I texted my uncle on their last offensive drive that I would go for two, so I'm still behind that decision 100%. The play should have been changed, but it is what it is.
Also, has Ohio ever had players this classless? I know they seem to always have a few gems, but the blatant disrespect makes my skin crawl. Woody was crazy and Tressel was a cheater, but I don't think they would have put up with half the nonsense Urbz revels in. I have a friend who is a Florida State alum, and he says Urban's players were pretty much similarly behaved at Florida sans Tebow. I understand emotions getting high, but the level of disrespect shown by many Ohio players should have no place in football.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Everybody's coming back.||
Everybody's coming back. Borges obviously undid everything he messed up in one game. We need to just shut up and support the staff because they're all going to be around for the next two years. Sarcasm aside, I've been maybe too critical out of frustration, but if I were coach I would fire Borges and Funk. I'm not the coach and I hope that next year is more ND and Ohio, less of everything else. If players get better and I feel like the team fights hard game to game, win or lose, I'm ok with the status quo. But yesterday's game just confirms, frustratingly, what this year could have been. I don't give kudos to coaches who have a one to six ratio in good to bad games.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I normally don't wish||
I normally don't wish anything bad on a player no matter what, but if Carlos Hyde suffers a career ending injury I won't shed a tear. Clark gets flagged for nonsense and he is hot dogging and taunting all game with, to a lesser extent, Braxton Miller. I wish Mattison had cheated toward the box or blitzed the edge just a bit more.....

It's sad that our AD is a joke, and that they are more concerned about "their way" than with the overall success of the program. Dave Brandon had to have HIS guy and make HIS stamp on the program at the end of 2010. Hoke stubbornly supports Borges while Borges stubbornly runs a predictable offense that regresses. Both guys poo poo the spread offense.
I wish we had coaches who were really willing to take some blame for the program. I also wish our AD wasn't a money loving d-bag.

Soberingly emo is better than deliriously optimistic. Some of us are sick of waiting for things to get better or carrying that banner as it seems we've been doing for 15 years.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Other coaches have had more||
Other coaches have had more success with less.
Hoke has built his way to less wins each year.
Hoke's limited success has come with the previous coaches players.
If building a program takes time, why extend that time to Hoke but not Rodriguez? You can point to the records and I'm not necessarily against the firing of Rodriguez, but three years has been used to bash one coach while with another it "isn't enough time."
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Is it possible he was too||
Is it possible he was too busy coaching the O-Line? You know what, thank you for pointing this out, because since Patrick Kugler's (who is one of the few lineman who hasn't played this year) father obviously did a meticulous search to put his son in the right place, Borges and Funk are really geniuses. The offense just isn't talented enough. Everyone knows you need more than two lineman with NFL talent. The line has really gotten better when you put it under a microscope. Stats are way overrated. I can't wait until Borges gets all of his guys, because then this offense will show the country what Michigan is made of.
Seriously. Pat Kugler is your point. A guy who signed when things looked brighter and I am talking about right now. My first post in this thread makes more sense than all of yours combined.

26-11 is not good enough, and quoting records without context is stupid. The best players on the current team are Rich Rod recruits, and how surprising that the same people who rode him out of town now want to give Hoke the chance he never got.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||I agree with you. Poor word||
I agree with you. Poor word usage. I would say that Michigan's performance has fallen far below the expectations of the coaches, players and fans in the past 15 years. There have been few bright spots, but they have existed. What is being put on the field is not good enough no matter what the reason(s) are.

All of which you can get in other players. People would think Michigan is an undesirable location because of the dumpster fire that is the offense and the lack of improvement over time. And also the fact that Michigan has been largely irrelevant for a decade and a half.
