The Team, The Team, The Team

The program is bigger than any one coach, player, or administrator.

That's not to disparage any one individual or to diminish their accomplishments.

College players come and go. It's the nature of the sport. While I would prefer that Coach Harbaugh stay for the duration of his coaching career, that may or may not coincide with his plan. Should he leave, we can find a suitable replacement - from within or from the outside - and move on while thanking him for righting the ship and wishing him well.

If JUB is correct, and the contract isn't even finished being drafted, I can't blame Harbaugh for shopping around. I was under the impression that Harbaugh had a finished draft from UM in hand and was still sniffing the NFL anyway. Apparently, that isn't the case.

This makes no sense to me unless Warde speaketh with forked tongue and really doesn't want Harbaugh back.

Everyone is making waay too big a deal about the contract not being finished. I would be more concerned if there was a final draft and he hadn't signed it. That means every term has been agreed to yet he is still hesitating. If they are negotiating over terms, it would make sense to not have a final draft and is just a normal part of contract negotiations

Right -- it's not like Michigan's lawyers are treating it as a low-priority item.  There almost certainly has been extensive discussion between Michigan-Harbaugh on what might work, but there are at least some terms not currently agreed in principle.

I'm guessing that the sticking point is exactly what some have reported:  Harbaugh wants assurances that nothing the NCAA can do would result in a for-cause separation, while Michigan wants assurances that it isn't paying enormous amounts of money to a head coach that is prevented from actually coaching.  That's not an easy problem to solve.

I see your point, but I simply cannot understand why this process takes so long, unless hourly-billing attorneys are in the driver's seat.

Hell, it can't possibly take THAT long to develop even an intricate contract. We've had months to create a workable document. The original US Constitution took less time, for cryin' out loud.

Sorry, I have a cold, feel like crap, and need something to rant about.

As an attorney, I can assure you the delay is not because anyone is going slow or trying to pad the billable hours.  It will get done when both sides are ready to pin down the final terms.  And Harbaugh is clearly not ready until he is done with the open NFL jobs.  Period.

Also, no one is drafting the contract entirely anew.  They will use the old contract and make just the few adjustments the new terms being kicked around require.  None if the delay is about the time it takes to update the contract.  It is entirely about what the parties want and when the ready to move to final.

This.  Assuming for the minute they reach an agreement, there'll be a letter of agreement, or memorandum of understanding signed between the parties, then the contract (using the previous one) will be done.  Every time JUB says "the contract isn't done" it puts my teeth on edge-  that just isn't how it works.

Except that this post isn't just rehashing the same 'sources say' bullshit that tells us what everyone knows - Harbaugh might interview for some NFL job.  No shit!  Until this tweet, that's what everything has been.  The same thing saying 'he could this, he could do that, we think he might do something' is not news.

This tweet is news - it tells us what he is doing and when.

Kinda true however the same information was posted twice over the weekend and pulled down both times and the OPs got hammered, points wise, for posting it.

And, as it turns out, it was 100% factually accurate.  Harbaugh IS interviewing this week with the Chargers which is all the OPs and their source claimed.

Yes, the OP that was left up did contain bits that were attributed to established NFL reporters.  But I don't remember there being any solid info in the first one that I deleted.  Like I said, three short paragraphs and nothing of substance.  Not at all unlike much of the so-called evidence cited by the two Petes and other talking heads and by Tony Pettitties during their persecution/suspension of Harbaugh.

Here is the article that was linked in the article I posted as the source:

https://www.nfl.com/news/chargers-raiders-have-interest-in-jim-harbaugh-maxx-crosby-in-full-support-of-antonio-pierce

After it was deleted, the subsequent post referenced this exact same article.  It’s more than clickbait, and ended up being correct.

Turns out reporters who report on the NFL are accurate sources of information on what NFL teams are planning to do!

Thanks Mgrow.  We give the media a lot of flak when they get it wrong (rightfully so) but far more often they get it right and it is taken for granted instead of acknowledged.

Now gimme all my points back!

I won't shoot the messenger, but Schefter is about as accurate as a weatherman.  Spews something out to be fact, changes his words a bit later, and then the day before the action he gives the true facts as if it was what he was saying all along.  I give a break to weatherman/weatherwomen as predicting weather is very difficult.  Schefter is just an idiot and wants to always be the first to report anything.

Many here just don’t want others to say things they don’t want to hear, no matter how true or obvious. The best examples from the last couple of years have been that McCarthy was going to be the starting QB in 2022, regardless of what happened with McNamara at QB in 2021, and that by not signing an extension before this season began, Harbaugh was signaling he would once again be looking at the NFL, as he is now. Human nature, I guess.

bdneely4,

I have a different point of view from yours.  Had dinner with Schefter once and he was adamant about having two sources before posting.  Dinner was interrupted a couple of times while he worked to confirm and post news.  I will agree that he always wants to be first.  He said as much, that is part of his bread and butter.  That said he was a stickler on making sure he had double confirmation before posting

FWIW - that was probably 8-9 years ago so maybe his process has loosened up a bit.  My take his is a stand up guy, and he is very intense.

🤷‍♂️

I hope they give Sherrone everything he needs to flourish. Next year’s schedule without a proven QB is going to be a Herculean challenge. Coming off a national title and laying an egg isn’t going to be an option with the fanbase.

As long as none of those 5 implode, I think 9-3 against that schedule and returning National Champs does it.  9-3 LSU would have been just outside of the cut this year (at #13 vs #11), but LSU didn't have quite the same monster schedule (they did play FSU, Bama, Ole Miss, & Missouri), and there wasn't any strong reason for the committee to break the sorting pattern.
