(stuck in cbus commuter traffic) I thought Urban was pounding the podium, only to find out later that was when he dropped his papers. Biggest excitement of the evening were the calls for EMS, then The Fan guys broke in to comment on things while they waited for that to be sorted out. They, too, were asking why he hadn't yet mentioned Michigan...which he was just as they went back to the Fawcett Center.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
Twice, he claimed he learned his lesson and won't "overwork" himself anymore. He claimed that he can balance family and work now, that he won't get too overzealous at his new job
November 28th, 2011 at 5:52 PM ^
Lets hope that's true. It's sad to say, but these days, a coach that isn't giving 100% isn't going to win.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
"No weapons, no drugs, no violence" is a core value to Urban. LOL

"You can stop ridiculous athletes by loading up."
How'd that work for your new DC this past Saturday? 5 TDs

Gator tears are filling the streets here in Florida. Not a fan of Urban but it's entertaining to watch this meltdown from my front door. Also, dude seems like a douche to me. I'm gonna say he downtown poundtown'd that grad assistant back in gainesville.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:51 PM ^
I grew up in FL and now im hearing all of my UF friends' anger over the situation. I'm thoroughly enjoying the UF schadenfreude.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
It's glorious. For as obnoxious as that fan is I'm not sure there's a larger fairweather fanbase out there. The chatter about UF Football is all but dead down here. The UF/FSU game was almost under the radar to anyone not affiliated with the schools.
November 28th, 2011 at 7:57 PM ^
I live in Florida, too, surrounded by Gator fans. It's been a bit surprising to realize just how fair-weather many of them can be. I'm good friends with a family of previously hard-core Gator fans, and this season they don't even watch the games. It seems like a lot of them have just given up on the team... and yet they're upset about Urban Meyer "giving up" on them. Go figure.
November 28th, 2011 at 11:28 PM ^
I've not noticed the same thing about Gator Fans around me....but there is always that bandwagon faction here in Florida that went from the U, to FSU, to UF depending on who was dominant. Any ways, I remember in 92/93 stores acrossed the street (High St.) from campus in Columbus displaying/selling Michigan gear in their front shop windows. During the Cooper years, Ohio fans in Florida were very rare...now they are everywhere.

A solid quote from a Gator: "On the bright side, maybe we can have ESPN rooting for us to come back like Michigan". I've also seen quite a few peaple post "Go Blue!" so would seem some of Gator Nation is rooting for us.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
Sorry, I meant details about the affair with his graduate assistant. I tried googling for it and didn't find a lot.
November 28th, 2011 at 7:04 PM ^
Ah, the rumor going around was that he was sleeping with a grad assistant in the athletic department. His wife found out and gave him the ultimatum between his job or his family. Seems clear which he chose. The consensus down here was that he used his medical history as a scapegoat to cover that whole mess up. It was primarily word of mouth so I don't know if you'll find a legit article about it. I have seen it mentioned on this site a few times though.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
On PTI just now, they had a topic about Urban Meyer becoming the new coach. They start the 1 minute 15 second segment by Wilbon calling Urban sneaky and even lying for the last week about the job. Then they spend the next 1 minute and 10 seconds talking about ... LSU and Bama and the general college football landscape. Ohio getting what they deserve, lack of respect.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
Urban Meyer: "Remember when I boned that chick in Florida and my wife made me quit. That won't happen again."
Press: "How do you know?"
Urban Meyer: "You live here. You've seen the girls in Ohio."

Is he talking about cheating on his wife when he mentions the stupid mistakes he made at Florida?

Honestly, the number one thing Les Miles has going for him at LSU is that Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino and (previously) Urban Meyer were such colossal douchebags that it was fairly easy to land recruits who would prefer to be around somebody fun who doesn't think the football program is all about himself.
Though Hoke and Miles are two very different people, I think Hoke's personality and being a players' coach is the number one advantage Michigan will have in recruiting in the years ahead. Well, that and Greg Mattison.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:19 PM ^
...before he left town in the 90s. He might not think a program is all about himself, but he definitely has some jackass in him.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
But not toward his most highly touted recruits (he screws over three star guys all the time, as is well-documented). Co-workers, other coaches, administrators -- he pisses them off all the time. Not his players.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
Like what? What did he do? And how do YOU know it?
So sick of the conjecture about LM.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
Urban Meyer said his dream job was Notre Dame...at least according to Wiki.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
I have never seen so many softball questions in my life and Urban is stammering. Hoke got grilled and thrived.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:50 PM ^
Gene Smith did not smile once when talking about his new coach?
November 28th, 2011 at 5:52 PM ^
It's probably his last action as athletic director...how do you expect him to feel?
November 28th, 2011 at 5:52 PM ^
It is because he basically had no part in recruiting Urban to ohio.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:51 PM ^
It's almost like they are asking questions that they expect to get Hoke-like answers from. So far, he's not doing such a great job.

I detest any woman that purses her lips like that in a picture.
Let alone the shirt.

I detest any woman who kills her kid because she wants to party. But the lips thing is also annoying.

You have to respect a professional ho-bag who has her true priorities (getting drunkenly groped by yours truly) in order.

But... Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...

Eh. It's the B1G. He's got old school peeps to appease. But don't believe him. He'll do what he knows.

This pretty much says it all:
"Congratulations for Ohio State for their new hire. However, I have been waiting for over 2 days to watch the Purdue vs. Coppin State game. Can’t you reschedule our game so we can watch that, too?"
