Fightin' Words; the ND Point of View
Did you ever wonder what we think of Notre Dame? Well, according to NDNation, what we feel is pure, unadulterated envy :
http://www.ndnation.com/boards/showpost.php?b=football;pid=112623;d=this
The highlights:
Since the first day the University of Notre Dame did anything worth doing on the field, Michigan has been literaly animated (anima, Latin for "life," "mind" or "soul") by a consuming envy, a second-bestness, a sure and certain knowledge that while it could have been the premier football program and university of the American midwest
Livin' in the past? You betcha:
Enter Notre Dame, which did precisely that, and which, armed with the best coach in the history of the sport, captured the imagination, not only of the region, but of the nation. As Rockne's triumphs garned headlines from coast to coast Michigan grew smaller, and its eyes grew greener and greener
Nazi reference? Check:
This need to be as good as others--this overwhelming, festering sense of inferiority leads Michigan people to ever-more-insane claims of greatness. It has long since passed the point of self-parody, and has become sad, like those really, really old ex-Nazis in retirement facilities, gibbering idiotically, shitting themselves, and repeating the delusional propaganda that first warped their minds.
For the record, I rocked the maize and blue on campus today. This was not appreciated by the locals.
EDIT: I should say that the locals are split into two very distinct camps, and have been since this summer; the "we'll be 10-2 because Weis was the only thing holding us back" camp and the "we'll be 7-5 because it's a new system and we lost a bunch of talent on offense and the defense still sucks" camp. Those two camps held firm through week 1, and exist in roughly equal numbers around here.

F them and their decided schematic advantage.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
Envy that.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:46 PM ^
Only certain eras count. And during those eras, Notre Dame is 15-0 against Michigan.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:41 PM ^
If we're getting all archaeological 24 hours before a totally rad football game, didn't, uh, didn't we teach them how to play football?
September 10th, 2010 at 3:49 PM ^
what the fuck weere we thinking?
September 10th, 2010 at 4:31 PM ^
and their stadium was copied from ours. talk about envy and copy cat syndrome. oh, we got the spread coach first too. still copying. stay classy ND.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:41 PM ^
The added incentive to get even more amped for tomorrow is appreciated. I'm gonna go find a leprechaun to throw in the river. I'll be right back.
September 10th, 2010 at 4:05 PM ^
for water pollution!!
Oh... you're in Ohio. Never mind.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:41 PM ^
them to let us know when they have more wins and a higher winning percentage. We are the winningest program. They are second best. They also haven't won a National Championship since Lou Holtz was the coach there even though the cards are stacked in their favor year after year.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:43 PM ^
I wouldn't bring that up. They do not like to discuss it.
September 10th, 2010 at 4:05 PM ^
ESPN has a poll and this question is asked : Which program has a richer football history?
38% Michigan
62% Notre Dame 6,335 people voted
http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/polls
Not sure how people have come to this conclusion. At least we all know the truth
September 10th, 2010 at 4:18 PM ^
...MGoBlogerati. There are actually 4 polls and the Michigan answers are leading in 3 of 4.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:12 PM ^
At least we have New Mexico on our side. Seriously, WTF, New Mexico? Of all the states and all the UM alums out there we get New Mexico?
September 10th, 2010 at 6:17 PM ^
They gave us Alan Branch.
Also, the UNM marching band plays "Temptation."
September 10th, 2010 at 6:19 PM ^
What do you have against New Mexico anyways?
I'm guessing it's my vote that pushed it over the top.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:42 PM ^
Wow I'm starting to hate these narcistic domers more and more.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:44 PM ^
I was *this* close to posting that link when I saw that you'd done the honors. It was brought to my attention by a friendly Domer at my workplace. Spicy!
Every school has its share of annoying fans. In this case, I think commenter Dublindude (who favors "delusional") comes closer to pegging people like the infamous Mr. Smith (whose letter to the Alumni newsletter was run recently and discussed on the 'blog) and other clueless alums.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
Are they doing some sort of weird, second person narrative, where they essentially describe themselves, but as the other person?
September 10th, 2010 at 3:52 PM ^
If they were us, then we'd be them, and we'd use *their* bodies to get to the top. They can't stop us no matter who we are!
September 10th, 2010 at 3:46 PM ^
Are you sure this wasn't meant for Sparty?
But honestly, this is a pretty sad attempt to just make themselves feel better about: a) not being relevant for quite some time, b) falling flat on their faces when they ARE relevant (2006, anyone?) and c) not winning anything significant in the recent memories of their current student body.
Also, there's this:

NASH OUT.

Thank you for reminding me of the time I wasted watching this movie once...obviously while entirely bored and/or drunk.
+1 to you for drudging up bad decisions!
September 10th, 2010 at 3:54 PM ^
But this thing is obviously going viral and had to share it with all my MgoFriends. Wow.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:12 PM ^
Did he get paid for this . . .or did he have to pay them?
September 10th, 2010 at 5:20 PM ^
I have never seen this movie but that has to be some of the worst acting I have ever witnessed. That is awesome.
September 10th, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
You think that's bad? Have you ever seen Ben Affleck or his brother Casey in any movies?
September 11th, 2010 at 5:07 AM ^
This guy really is a horrible actor. Why do people encourage him by paying him money? Money someone else could have. Who doesn't suck.
September 10th, 2010 at 3:48 PM ^
It's not like they're Southern Cal
September 10th, 2010 at 3:52 PM ^
Lol they think we envy them?! We just got voted 15th best university in the world for one thing. Second, didn't we teach them how to play football? They even modeled their stadium after ours! I didn't hate them like I did OSU or MSU, but they're constant delusional thinking is getting ridiculous.
September 10th, 2010 at 4:07 PM ^
I'm a UNION IRONWORKER and helped set all the precast concrete for the ND stadium, took 2 years. Proud of the work we did, met Lou, touched the play like champions sign going down the steps to the locker room, etc etc. Always in my Maize&Blue :)
September 10th, 2010 at 3:54 PM ^
Envious of their cup cake schedule! (ZING).... - Navy, AirForce, Connecticut (ok slash that one)
September 10th, 2010 at 4:37 PM ^
Yea, but I wouldn't want to have to play Michigan this year.
September 10th, 2010 at 4:16 PM ^
Damn, even Rudy wasn't true.
September 10th, 2010 at 4:26 PM ^
Neg me for this but sadly, much of that is much like Michigan fans (casual fans anyway).
September 10th, 2010 at 4:23 PM ^
...Domers. That is all.
September 10th, 2010 at 4:38 PM ^
Why would we be jealous of ND? We have won 3 out of the past 4. Killed them in 2006 and 2007, even though we lost in 2008 we outgained them in total yardage 388-260 and if it wasn't for a monsoon and ThreetSheridamnit we had a chance of winning that game, then ripped their hearts out last year.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:34 PM ^
September 10th, 2010 at 5:04 PM ^
Ya know, this kid I went to gradeschool with was always ranting about how Rockne was the greatest coach this and that and how he invented the forward pass.... As a third grader my first thought was "Yeah, its easy to win when you're the one making up the rules, you rtard."
F*** Notre Dame and their annoying fans.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:48 PM ^
Their lower all-time win total? Their lower winning percentage? Their stadium that looks like ours except 30,000 seats smaller? God I wish we had iconic helmets and an awesome fight song like they do! And it's too bad that Notre Dame leads the all-time series against us. Especially those last 4 years. That 2008 win counts way more than our 2006, 2007, and 2009 wins. Now if only we had won a MNC more recently than them..... Oh I know what we do have though! We have WolverineHistorian and they only have DameFan1. At least we're ahead in that aspect.
September 10th, 2010 at 6:10 PM ^
They do have have iconic helmets (though not as awesome), but I 100% agree with the rest of what you said.
September 10th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
Navy? ND? Who knows?!
September 11th, 2010 at 4:22 AM ^
September 10th, 2010 at 6:06 PM ^
I thought Michigan was only second to Notre Dame in Hollywood movies made about them.
September 10th, 2010 at 6:28 PM ^
and they call US arrogant!
