I echo the DTW sentiments, really good airport

Have generally had favorable experiences at MSP

PHX after the renovations has been way better, but the security lines are still shockingly long at times. Also the train to the rental car place takes forever and is a really long walk

At LAX the new Delta terminal is better, but traffic around the airport is awful and the rental car center takes forever

The new SLC is very nice and seems similar to DTW in terms of layout and amenities

I second this

I have the 200 series, can easily do a half dozen burgers, brats, steaks, lobster tails, etc. You can also get a stand for it so it's not sitting on the ground. Very portable, great for camping, tailgating, and every day use.

I use it a couple times per week. It spent two winters outside in Cleveland and has now been two years in the extreme heat of Texas. I probably need to get a new burner for it, but everything works great.

it's easier to use someone's momentum to move them

Right, so if the DE has his left shoulder inside Mags, could Mags have given an extra push further down the line using the DE's momentum to run him out of the play? Or is the ISO playcall dictating that he latch onto his man (the DE) and ride him until the play is over?

I think Brian's point was that power is not as rigid as most people think and players still need to think on their feet after the ball is snapped.

Admittedly specific schemes are not something I'm terribly knowledgeable about.

Could Magnuson have passed

Could Magnuson have passed off the DE to Kalis and then taken on the MLB? I'm not sure if that's a possibiltiy within the scheme, but could have netted even more yardage.

Do teams allow players to

Do teams allow players to pick which helmet to wear? With all the attention on concussions and injury prevention you would think teams would use the best evidence based research and testing to select the best helmet for their players.

Interesting idea

While reading DBLL I couldn't help but wonder if DB and MSC had some kind of extra-curricular relationship. It just makes no sense as to why she of all people would put blind faith in DB. MSC kicked ass while president in almost all areas except athletics, it just does not make sense.

IMSB

Having worked in rec sports for a number of years during school, I can confirm that we had the first building of it's kind in the country. If I'm not mistaken, 2013 was the 100 year celebration.

Houston Housing Market

Something to keep an eye on is the energy sector in Houston. Tons of layoffs with the price of oil dropping and it's uncertain how long the price will stay this low. That could have a big impact on the housing market in Houston over the next two+ years.

There's also some concerns within the city of Houston regarding the city's debt and pension responsibilities. Some people are panicking like it's going to be Detroit all over again, I doubt it reaches that point, but again something to keep an eye WRT the housing market.

At least one of those years

At least one of those years Michigan may have qualified for the tournament and was banned from the post season...

Call it what you will, but Amaker was handicapped from the beginning with Michigan. Sure they underperformed at times, but what would you expect for a team that had a post-season ban, scholarship limits, etc. Realistically, Amaker was a caretaker for the coach that would dig us out of the Webber mess. Amaker probably stayed on longer than he should have, but I'd say John Beilein has done a damn good job of resurrecting the program.

Let me just point out, the

Let me just point out, the "cheap loans" are not always that cheap.

For example, some of my loans are 7.9%... and I'm in a profession that is generally expected to perform well over the long term.

My problem with the education system is that there is demonstrated need for dentists, doctors, physical therapists, etc per peer reviewed research from the ADA, AMA, etc, yet they are charging insane rates to educate these people. The alternative is to import people from foreign trained schools with unknown qualifications... having interacted with these people has given me the opinion that it's a crap shot.

There should be some incentive to go into professions that are in demand or demonstrated to be in demand in the future, instead of giving every history/english/social science person every loan they ask for.

Spending the afternoon at Buffalo Bayou

Really enjoyed the 1836. Blood Orange wasn't bad, but I'm not a fan of Belgian wheat beers. Figaro is interesting, they import figs from Turkey, has a dark malty flavor, but strikes me more like an IPA.

Houston beer just isn't as good as that available in the Midwest.

It seems like the naming

It seems like the naming rights of the football coach would be best limited to print, for example a plaque on his office door or listed in the saturday programs. I think it's a little condescending and over the top when they have to announce the full name every time the coach is introduced.

It can't be any worse than the "WOW" experience we are currently being presented with on the front page today

"One answer is that Nussmeier

"One answer is that Nussmeier and Hoke aren't averse to tempo but are focusing on executing a new offense, and as the team settles in, tempo will become part of Michigan's offensive arsenal."

The flip side of this is that if they are trying execute the playbook, then maybe they need to get to the line quicker so they can run through proper checks in order to get into the best play.

What was Alabama's tempo under Nussmeier? How does it compare? I find it hard to believe we can't get the plays called in quicker especially with Nuss standing on the sideline.

I agree with everything you

I agree with everything you had to say, but I think Shaw has a valid point in that they need to teach them how to make a living. Sure, plenty of athletes with pro potential have only professional sports on their mind, but realistically what percentage of the players really have pro potential? And of those players with pro potential, what percent last long enough in the NFL to actually collect a decent paycheck? If they don't make it or flame out early, then what? The university is doing them a disservice if all they are doing is paying them without actually teaching/giving them the tools to be successful beyond professional sports.

I'll be moving there in a few

I'll be moving there in a few weeks and would love to get a Michigan plate, but I don't think I switch everything over until I'm down there. The Houston Alumni Association has a pretty big FB page, maybe try there.

While I personally agree with your assessment

in my experience living in NEO (much shorter than your 25) I have had to correct a number of people that say, "oh, you went to Michigan State, right?" For some reason there are people that don't know there is a University of Michigan and a Michigan State University. Perhaps it is because Ohio only has Ohio State and the next closest large university is Cincinnati and by default they think UoM is the only major state school in Michigan.

Is it a slap in the face to MSU or UoM? I guess that depends on whether you are a Michigan alum or not.

My univerisity cancelled,

My univerisity cancelled, then un-cancelled for tomorrow, it's been one giant roller-coaster of joy and disappointment this evening

I wish I had a picture of it,

I wish I had a picture of it, but early in the game there was a shot of Beilein and Morgan (maybe Horford?) arguing with the refs about grabbing jerseys and Morgan's jersey had a huge rip right down the middle. I saw that and knew we were in for a long night with some shitty officiating.

I disagree on it not looking

I disagree on it not looking as dominant. If anything, succeeding in the B1G now is more impressive than when the conference as a whole had fewer dominant teams.

I have not tried that one

however, you may want to try beergraphs.com for some reviews. They attempt to objectively rank beers, not sure how successful they have been so far.

It was my understanding that

It was my understanding that the Champions for Charity was not actually a non-profit and therefore, part of the reason for the athletic department discontinued it's relationship with them was to have better control over where the charity dollars were flowing. Probably a lot of AD speak in there, so take that for what it's worth.

It will be different for sure

the longer you are away from campus, the more different it seems. My recommendation is to find an alumni associaton whereever you end up. It's a great networking opportunity and most put on events for watching football and basketball games. It's a good way to stay in touch with the university with people that have a common connection.

Listened to it today while running late to the Alumni Association party, so it does still work.

The problem with twitter

as has already been mentioned, is that it is wide open and subject to trolls. You can protect your tweets, but then the only people that can see them are those that are following you, which kind of defeats the purpose of trying to do a liveblog on twitter.

That being said, twitter seems like the best option at this point. Those that don't want to mix their professional accounts with MGoBlog could just open a second twitter for MGoBlog purposes.

It's not that he's setting a

It's not that he's setting a bad example to his team (there are plenty of other poor role models down there), but more so to the viewers that may have seen him dipping on the sideline while watching the game on tv. It may seem trivial, but the NCAA does have rules against using alcohol, drugs, and tobacco at events for good reason. I'm sure you can figure out why for drugs and alcohol, but tobacco is the greatest risk factor for developing oral cancer among many others (20X higher risk). So while its stupid in the context of recruiting, it was the right thing for the health teacher to do from a public health standpoint.

Should a 7 year old car be

Should a 7 year old car be rusting, especially in those locations and with modern anti-corrosive paints/sealers? That's what I would be concerned about. I had a '97 Ford stored almost exclusively outside and it didn't start getting rust on the body until it was about 10-11 years old. Yes this is anecdotal, but it should be something to consider when negotiating for this car.

Also of note

I got an email saying the Big House Big Heart races were moved to the day after the spring game instead of being in the fall. I think this is to try and get people to make a weekend of it. I'm kind of bummed, I liked running through Ann Arbor in the fall.

I wish him the best

He came across as very arrogant the few times I interacted with him, but his staff was usually very nice and he had some good seasons over the years, especially last year. He helped put Michigan soccer on the map and move it to varsity, so he'll always have that as a lasting legacy.
