OT: Saturday Boozing

Submitted by gopoohgo on

Nothing yet...

But scored a 4 pack of Dogfish 120 ($39.99) and a leftover bottle of 2014 Thomas Handy Sazerac for $90.

Going to buy the other bottle.

Went to Hopcat. Super mixed feelings. For example, their Dark Horse 2x Crooked Tree is $2 more than at Ashley's, and they charge you for samples! I felt guilty for cheating. Great layout for a sports bar, excellent service all around, and a fine place to watch the game, but terrible prices for a "tap room".

Good: Latitude 42 Hippie Speedball, Lagunitas Cappucino Stout

Meh: Founders Big Lushious

I love Dogfish 120. For special occasions only, but reminds me of my first foray into beer appreciation (which also started at Ashley's)

I have a bottle of strawberry rhubarb and serendipity chilling in the fridge for tonight as we speak. They make incredible fruit beers.

Traded the last of my KBS for new Glarus fruits and Russian River sours, we'll worth it. I have another case and half of KBS coming next month so I'll be doing it again.

Really enjoyed the 1836. Blood Orange wasn't bad, but I'm not a fan of Belgian wheat beers. Figaro is interesting, they import figs from Turkey, has a dark malty flavor, but strikes me more like an IPA.

Houston beer just isn't as good as that available in the Midwest.

Later on, I shall try the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp spring seasonal per a suggestion from someone at work. I wish I could start in on it now, but I actually have to take my wife to her birthday present in a couple hours and I can only imagine if I did that while tipsy. Then again, the beer would still be in the fridge and the one sofa in the family room - directly opposite the big TV - does fold out, but I should do what I promised to do, eh?

are heading downtown traverse city in a little bit to find a drink. Only bummer is that the kids are with us. Don't get me wrong, I love having our boys with us, but it's been waaaaay too long since mama bear and I got messed up and fooled around in public.

Up in Vermont. Just finished day 2 at Stowe. Enjoying The Shed Brewery India Pale Ale. About ready to take a dip in the outdoor pool. It's a balmy 92 degrees. Not bad when it's only 15 degrees outside.

Just tried Maker's White. Can only buy it at the distillery. Decided quickly it's not for me. Kind of like the Crystal Pepsi of bourbon. Shifting back to something that has spent time in the barrel.

Have been very curious about white whiskey.

Am a big fan of Buffalo Trace bourbons (a bit of a poser, yes) and heard that their White Dog serves as a precursor for much of their non-rye Bourbons.

Saw it once locally, could not find it again.

Finished my Dogfish 120...am well and truly buzzed (15-20% abv).  Going to open up one of my Thomas Handy's.  Wife and dog are asleep why not.

12 year old. And ice. And a flat of ice cold Molsons.

What a sweet afternoon. Snow removal, bird feeder replenishment, some direct sun rays, a couple hundred golf swings, a handsie/blowsie from the wife, and now Happy Hour!

a bit after a hopslam. I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about. Particularly when I had to pay $7.50 for a tall. I'll say this, Bell's are masters of artificially manufacturing demand.
