You have facts? I have not seen anything definitive.
This is maaaaybe premature there, ESPN. Maryland #1 FWIW.
You have facts? I have not seen anything definitive.
posted right on the homepage.
2 days in a row!!
Michigan daily is reporting it:
As of right now, the first link title says may but the story says cancels. The second was up before it's doing an 'access denied' so they may have prematurely reported that classes were cancelled even though they haven't been yet.
The Daily needs to get their act together.
Tomorrow I go 8-4, so I'd be a huge fan of this.
EDIT: It's official, prepare the posbangs!
Michigan snowman kit from MDen?
INDEED. You are correct
disappears with age and children. Day #7 this year of "snow" days. yay.
It's lost a lot of luster for my kids since they have to sit in my office on snow days when we can't find anyone to watch them - like a few weeks ago and tomorrow.
Supposed to get 0-14 inches in North Carolina tomorrow night ( depending on location).
Typical weather forecast, for any city, ever. Precise range of snowfall!
That range can be used all year!
I really feel they could be more specific than 0-14!
Depends on the elevation at which you reside.
Wow this would be awesome if I was still going there
my current school, Oakland University, has not issued anything yet. Great.
WE CAN HAVE POST-BANG
...gimme a posbang for 2 consecutive Wisconsin school days off due to the brutal cold! My kids are lovin' it...except in June when 2 additional school days may be added on.
They've cancelled a full day in 35 years(or so I'm told).
It's the first time classes have cancelled due to weather since 1978. The only other time class has been cancelled was in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
I was a freshman in the dorm and I hauled all my 8:00 drawing class crap across the campus in blizzard conditions only to find classes had been cancelled. But, it wasn't a total loss. Our dorm hall played a game of tackle football in the middle of Palmer Field. Lots of fun.
I was a sophomore at Michigan the last time we had a snow day. We had two in a row due to a heavy snow/blizzard. Spent two days building a sled run down the side of the frat house hill fueled by beer. Good times. No posbangs back then, so bang me now!
Living in TN I find myself begging for one good snow
Same as well... It's just depressing
For everybody living in that area: for the love of all that is good, DO NOT leave your animals outside
As a Michigan State fan might say, YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
It hurts so good. In Soviet Russia, frost bang you.
Excuse my incohereance, I just got in from the cold, was defrosting, and now I get hit with this!
Party on the Diag?
Personally, I'm staying the fuck inside.
No going outside tomorrow. Netflix+Re-watch the Michigan/MSU game. Life. Life is good.
You can go outside tomorrow.
Chuck Norris does not get cold. The cold gets Chuck Norris.
Chuck Norris roundhoused Canada and caused the polar vortex.
I didn't know this was possible...you know, with the wives tale that UM never canceled classes for snow and all
It's the first one since 1978!
However, I don't think a snow day means I can skip going to work at the medical center. Boo.
LET'S GO NO 8:30 TOMORROW TURN UP
It's colder than Yeti nuts out there.
In my time at Michigan, they delayed the start of a semester only once ("cancel" was not used), and it had to snow about 18 inches for it to happen even then. Strangely, the snow was not so much the problem (it was the day after New Year's in 1998), but the trouble that many students had in getting back to Ann Arbor that caused the delay.
Sixteen years later, I am waiting for work to cancel. Sadly, as I work for a utility, the chances of this happening are negligible.
Cool story bro:
So far my senior year of HS has had SEVEN snow/cold days so far. 4 in a row at one point, and then now three straight. All of them have been in the calendar year of 2014.
Plus, I already have called myself in for national signing day, the B1G Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.
You skipped school for national signing day? Umm..... I wouldn't gloat about that.
Here is my class schedule for the final semester I am in.
Yeah, I think It won't hurt to take some days off.
Can you tell what career I will be pursuing at Bowling Green?
I'm bad at logic questions
Less schoolwork than in HS and more time being a fan, buying memorabilia and watching M sports?
oh boy...senioritis. it didn't hit me until senior year of undergrad.
For being a die hard, why not go to Michigan?
My cells don't get a snow day, so I will be up bright and early to get my experiments done.
This is a marvelously nerdy answer. Would +1 if not on mobile.
The Michigan Difference, ladies and gentlemen.
Not to piss on this posbang (unless you're into that kinda thing, in which case, you're welcome), but I already have no classes Tuesday. Why couldn't this be on a Wednesday? Thanks Obama.
That said, I do agree with the decision. It's colder than a well-digger's ass out there.
I've never considered the relative temperature of a well diggers' ass. Witches tit's, sure, but never that. The more you know.
My univerisity cancelled, then un-cancelled for tomorrow, it's been one giant roller-coaster of joy and disappointment this evening
Would have had 9 hours of class tomorrow including a 4 hour lab. Thank god.
Sometimes the Michigan Difference is not being different at all.
Enjoy the cold, fellas. Catch up on some TV or movies (I guess the Netflix thread was a good thing).
Note: I tried to post a few minutes ago, but it never showed up. Hopefully, I didn't have a fraternal double post.
Oh my fuck, I have 7.5 hours of class tomorrow.
So the year after I graduate, we have our first snow day since 1978. Dammit.
Oh well, enjoy it Wolverines!
LET'S BURN COUCHES!!! Except, you know. To actually stay alive...
Thank the Morford!
Notice there has been a ridiculous amount of school days cancelled on Tuesdays? I coach a basketball team and we have practices on Tuesdays and if there's no school on Tuesday, there's no practice. This is our 5th miss practice out of 7 possible. Note: We still are 3-0.
Middle school? All high schools I know hold practice on days school is cancelled. ALWAYS PRACTICE
How much snow are you guys supposed to get? Or is it more due to the cold?
Yeah it's due to the cold. Supposed to have -30 windchill a tomorrow.
Didn't you guys get that same weather a few weeks ago? Or was that during break?
different week. Stupid polar vortex. It happened Jan 6-8. My kids had 3 days off school due to snow (Jan 6) and cold (Jan 7,8) on the first days they were supposed to be back at school. Longest winter break ever.
School's up in the UP are closed today and tomorrow due to this cold. I don't remember getting this many snow days as a kid.
Schools not school's
Traveled to the greater Marquette-Negaunee-Ishpeming metroplex last week and was impressed by the January snowscape. I know that the Keweenaw Peninsula and Munising to Grand Marais have been getting absolutely slammed this year. I miss U.P. winters. Stay warm, my friend.
There was an article today about snow amounts. A2 is almost up to the entire winter average snowfall and so are several other cities. But the UP is down from usual. Here is the article:
Even though it is down, it's still a lot of snow!
Lake effect snow is so fickle. Marquette's totals might be down, but don't tell that to our friends in Houghton and the Keweenaw Peninsula. They got lambasted early in the year by nonstop lake effect snow. I think they're well above normal. But it's also nice to see the Lower Peninsula getting a legit winter...enjoy the white stuff (but drive safely).
The bad days that week were Monday and Tuesday, and break didn't end until Wednesday. So students were still off.
My brother is actually the dude who runs the conference call of all the superintendents.
The call started back in 1995 when my dad would drive me to school really early (he went to work at 5:30 and I chose to go to Groves instead of Seaholm so I couldn't take the bus, ergo 5:30). On an iffy day he called the B'ham superintendent to ask if he should take me or not, and John was like "let me walk my dog and see."
Since my dad's business (agricultural consultants) contracts with highly accurate meteorologists--way better than the ones on the news--he offered to put the superintendent on the phone with the meteorologist and get a more accurate account than what it's like at 5:30 a.m. when you walk your dog in Birmingham.
After that was a success he bragged to other superintendents and they joined the call one after another. When my last sibling went to college my dad handed the call off to his youner partner. When his kids went off to college my brother, who works with them, took over the call. They have about 20 districts in metro detroit who get on my brother's call and can ask questions to the meteorologist. Then each superintendent makes their own call.
I think you meant to say "I got into Seaholm, and chose to go to Groves."
I kid. I only went to Seaholm for senior year, spent the first 3 on the east side of the D. So I have no idea if that is an actual rivalry.
Ha. Actually I didn't make the football team at Groves and was sour about that, while my brother played for Seaholm and was good enough to earn a little D-I interest and some D-II offers, so I betrayed my school and went to all the Mapes. They still the kickoff cheer in the stands that I helped start.
I remember that day. My still-shower-wet hair froze on the way to class, which was a half-R.C. class, so I'm walking in trying to thaw out my brain while these sleepy hippies in pajamas are wandering in asking if it's cold out.
I loved walking to class barefoot in PJs. I highly recommend it.
One day during January of my Freshman year, Ann Arbor set the record for "coldest low in January"
January 19, 1994.
Ann Arbor low temperature for the day? -25.1 degrees
"On that fateful, bitter day, the temperature reached a low of -22 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service. It was the coldest day in the history of the University.
The wind chill factor that day reached epic proportions, driving the temperature down to a 2 a.m. low of -61 degrees."
It's not really a snowday. Payne and Dawson were out. So it doesn't count.
We need to keep this one going!! All the "Postbang"s to you!!
It's like a snoooooowwwww daaaaaaayyyy, when you don't have classes...
When I was at Case in the early 90s we had a huge snowstorm on a Monday. Not very unusual as Cleveland is in the lake effect snow belt. What was great was that someone hacked into the TV and radio stations systems and declared a snow day. So as we were all listening to the radio in the morning hearing all the school districts that were cancelled, we heard our college cancelled! It was awesome! So even though the school didn't declare it, no one showed up for classes or work.
My kids now have their 5th snow day and will likely have one on Wednesday. They can't even run around outside in the snow because it is so cold.
I was in MN this am with -40 windchill and it was so cold - I have never felt anything like it. But, it was so nice, I get it twice now that I am back in MI.
Stay warm folks!
As a grad student with no classes on Tuesdays, I am fairly indifferent to the cancelled classes. However, I can't pass up a good posbang. Let's do it!
What is the temperature in AA right now?
with -16 windchill.
Stauskas is cooling off. That should give you some idea.
Ahh it'd be nice if they cancelled work... The vehicles have to be made!!!
I only get until noon off...and I don't even have to teach tomorrow so what's the point? Stupid Wisconsin.
Mad props to another UW-Madison lackey! My morning class was caught in the cancellation crossfire, too. I'm mostly prepped for tomorrow, so I guess Thursday's class is largely ready and I can cross other things off of my to do list. Get yo'self a hot Mickey's Dairy Bar breakfast tomorrow in lieu of teaching.
Keep fighting the good fight against Bo Ryan. It actually makes some sense though since at least here in Chicago it looks to be getting warmer as the day does on. If you can call -11 warm that is.
I feel bad for Minnesotans though. They've dealth with this weather all winter not just a couple of days here and there. Can't wait for winter to be going instead of coming.
But..but..I thought this wasn't possible??
Why the hell didn't this happen when it was -30 wind chill my freshman year???
Kids these days. They have it so easy. (Insert pissed off old man face)...except I'm only 25
Because of the Schlissel effect. Sorry, it's science.
Back in my day, I walked 15 miles to my classes through 8 feet of snow. While being chased by a rabid polar bear. And by golly, I made it to every one 10 minutes early. Damned kids are so pampered these days.
6th year here at Michigan and the news is totally stunning. Hooray!
One thing I thought of today was we spend way too little time enjoying victories and way too much time wallowing in defeats. I swear we get a huge win and then 48 hours later start fretting and worrying again. After a huge loss we sit around this year blog and mope for weeks and weeks and create constant topics titled "When will Michigan be elite again?"
Let's savor these three wins a little more. A run unheard of at Michigan and not seen nationally for decades.
We humbled those cocky MSU bastards on their home court without our lottery-pick center. They are sad and still whining over at RCMB now.
Wisconsin is still trying to figure out why that one time we didn't get a foul called on us when we breathed on That Other Gumpy Looking White Guy Who Plays For Wisconsin.
Iowa thought they were going to validate their greatness by beating us with their super-duper speed but ended up being slowed down by Beilein's gloriously slow and efficient gameplan
Look how sad you are Tom
POSBANG ME. Everyone else sucks and we are awesome - untied atop the best conference in the country. BANG BANG BANG
But I will have to "Postbang" you, since it's a Postbang thread.
It's so true, wallowing around in your sorrow and not being happy long enough. We should take a cue from the Spartans, who I believe are going to drag that Rose Bowl win into at least October...
Professor X = greatest avi ever. One of my favorite episodes ever.
thanks! It is my favorite episode of Community.
Nothing beats Western-style Paintball. Nothing.
Aw man! I'm so jealous! You guys get a snow day and it's not even supposed to get above 72 here this week. Way to rub it in, guys!
I wish we could get snow here in south Florida, instead tomorrow will be sunny and 82. The annoying part is that people here bitch all day about it being "freezing" when it's in the 50's. A whole lotta pansies down here.
I'm kind of digging this cold for some reason. I think it's pretty awesome. It's like, fugging COLD, man, but still pretty cool.
Lucky bastards!! My graduate classes at University of Buffalo were not cancelled despite wind chill temps of -39
Have my first day of work tommorow. Enjoy it off fellas.
the one semester I take off to work we get all these snow days. I'll be working tomorrow, but let the drinks floweth for everyone in AA
I was in the Ugli and everyone left to go drink. I didn't though... ahem. nope.
You kids are soft. SOFT!
Hey we didn't make the decision.
Old UnkleBuck is beyond sick of this crap-ass weather. I travel a lot with work, needless to say its raised the stress level a bit. But the recent Sparty weekend beatdown (hockey, wrestling, bball) has more than made up for it.
Never happened in my time here, or my lifetime apparently.
Back in my day...
Aw, who am I kidding, this is awesome, you guys.
I dont even have class tomorrow. So I get no advantages from the weather. I deserve some good bangs.
This adds exactly nothing to your comment but I felt the need for snark.
Every thread is a postbang thread, you know what I'm sayin'?
Came across this last night...lets you play the role of GM for your favorite team complete with trades and an overall grade. Thought some of you would enjoy.
I had to get my ass into the office to sling W-2's and 1099's.
Posbang my ass, dammit.
I wish work had snow dyas
God bless the snow day. One of the wonderful perks of working in higher education.
I started grad school at UM Dearborn this semester and I've been to three of the six classes so far cuz of cancelations, wonder how hard we're gonna push to catch back up
Actually cancelled? Back in 1994 we had a couple of days that approached wind chill of -40 (I think it was actually lower) but class was never cancelled.
Bunch of babies around here. Boo hoo, -30 degrees. This how people roll in NYC.
Honestly, best of luck to everyone tomorrow. Those sound like absolutely terrifying temperatures.
I could go on about how I never had a snow day in my days on campus but I am in Anchorage this week for work and it is 47 degrees out! Almost feels like a win!!
The last cold spell we had, it was colder here than on Mars.
...are cold. It's true; I read it on the Interweb
Which is weird, cuz, like, it's not even snowing right now. You'd think if there was ever a time to break the 40-year-old snowday drought, it would've been during the Snowmaggedon at the beginning of the semester that left a bunch of students unable to get to campus.
...in Canada, eh!! I'm in Vancouver and they have the BTN at the Hyatt.
Shhhh... don't tell me who wins.
And then MSU publicly announced that they are having class tomorrow and reminded students that 10-15 minutes of exposure to the wind chill could create frost bite.
Is it wrong to laugh?
At a time when it would've made sense for us to do so too.
So, eh. One for one.
They actually sent out a Temperature/Wind --> minutes till frostbite converter, which is the ultimate troll. Not only aren't they canceling class, they're assuring me I'll lose a nose on my way to the comm arts building.
Well... nothing cancelled tomorrow, but living in México and on vacations... I guess I can live with it....
No one in Michigan should have to work tomorrow. There's no point when we're just going to spend half the day bitching about how we had to go into work on the internet.
How about some pos bang love for me hauling my ass to work in sub zero temps?
Not only do I have to trudge my frozen ass to the bus at 8AM in order to teach, I just got the old "it's-not-you-it's-me" routine completely out of nowhere in a freaking text message.
Need a posbang real bad here, you guys. This winter sucks.
I feel for ya, hope the rest of your week goes better.
For some reason when you wrote that I assumed you meant with one of your buddies and I was confused. I am also an idiot. Sorry man.
"Damn right it's you!"
Indiana is not closed tomorrow. Sadly that means I have to work all day!
I think I've almost gotten frostbite upwards of 15 times this semester. The trek from the Hill is brutal.
Second day of schools and the entire state being closed in Minnesota!
My office is freezing, Northville public schools closed for the 5th time this year, and I never got a snow day at UM-Dearborn. Today is rough!
