Hoke was top notch at this aspect of his job.

General feeling on this board is that a 10 inning 2-1 loss to a decent team in early May has officially closed the door on this team winning a championship. Is that correct or am I way off base?
Some posters on this thread claim that hiring a rookie manager like Brad Ausmus was last year, is a sure fire way of not having success. While the move may prove to potentially be the reason this Tigers era produces zero World Series titles, I say look to St. Louis.
While, yes, the Cardinals are the Cardinals, look at Mike Matheny. He was a rookie manager after taking over for Tony LaRussa. Since 2012 he has taken St. Louis to three straight playoff appearances including getting the WS in 2013. He hasn't yet a won a title but they're 22-9 now without any real star power.
My point is...hiring a rookie manager doesn't necessarily mean it's a death knell. I'm not here to claim Brad Ausmus will be like Mike Matheny, either. Dollars to donuts the Tigers will be in the playoffs again this year.

Why are a faction of you getting all worked up about a team that, as you can tell, has been extremely snake bitten? This season just hasn't been theirs from the start. Now, they are struggling with all of the losses that have been covered over and over, we're going to start freaking out about the future.
Do you want Coach Beilein gone? Is he not allowed a bad season in which two of his starters have pretty much missed the entire, crucial second half? Based on a few of the responses, the answer is no, he's not.

Wish things could have worked out better. Probably shouldn't be speaking in past tense seen as how he still is the Head Coach of the University of MIchigan Football Team.
If he is let go of his duties, I'm looking forward to reading Brian's send-off post assuming there is one.

I know this would have been impossible but too bad they couldn't have schmoozed Dick Enberg away from the Padres. He's a local of Michigan and is pretty much gold at any sport he does.

I would like a PS4 from Hoke and if that's not possible then just having a winning record against our rivals and a big ten championship (although I'd imagine that would go along way towards securing a championship).
If all of that falls into place, then it'd be nice to see Michigan make a run for a title in 2015. I still feel like this year is "put up or shut up time" for the coaching staff. I love these guys, the players seem to take to them but for some reason it just hasn't been put together on the field.
Maybe JB can coach the football team too if this season goes completely to hell.

Yeah there will be a competition, and if Shane improves so much over the off-season that he actually threatens to bench DG then that should be a win for the team because if you're looking optimistically that means the team now has a very competent backup.
In the end though, I don't think there will be much of a competition because Gardner has many more tools than Shane does right now. Of course, Shane will never have the legs DG does, but besides that why would they go with anyone but the guy who has started 1 1/2 years already? Unless, DG has regressed that badly and is so shell-shocked from last year he just can't be a starting quarterback. Something that seems highly unlikely.

I hear James Franklin could be in the mix and was offered the job today.
EDIT: I edited the comment after deleting what I wrote because I realized I'm stupid. I really wanted to put Funk, but since I knew everyone else was going to say Funk, I decide to go off the unbeaten path.

Woah, Nellie. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. 'Bama is still 'Bama. Michigan isn't going to pirate their recruits away left and right, if they get any of Nussmeier's connections at all.

|1 year 20 weeks ago||So let me get this straight||
So let me get this straight seen as how this seems to be a growing opinion around these parts lately...Because MSU wins the Rose Bowl, Brady Hoke should be fired or at the very least needs to "wake up." Curious to hear what these same people would say if Stanford had won.
I just find it funny that because MSU wins the Rose Bowl this is somehow a complete indictment of what Brady Hoke and Michigan are capable of doing as though every year from here on out Michigan will win 7 games and MSU will always go to the Rose Bowl.
I get the frustration but many people seem to be jumping to major conclusions right now based on what the 2013 season brought us. People seem to be black and white and have already conceeded 2014 as a lost season. It seems to me us as Michigan fans have now developed the "inferiority complex."
I think we need to move on from this past season for once and for all.

The day after MSU wins their first Rose Bowl since 1988 and they would have nothing else to talk about?
|1 year 20 weeks ago||Good for MSU but||
I think I should just root for my school, CMU. No expectations, no hype. If they pull off an upset then it's the greatest thing ever. 2013 was worst season I've witnessed as a fan of UM. even more so than 2008. I knew MSU was going to be a force since Kirk Cousins' junior year and it's ridiculous seeing the two programs go opposite directions.

I think SportsCenter is okay if it isn't during the afternoon hours. Keeping on ESPN, whoever is running their SportsNation and ESPN twitter accounts are so annoying. Every tweet seems like it's laced with "bro" undertones.
I watch the Young and the Restless.
I think the majority of Michigan's fanbase are raving lunatics and can't enjoy anything without thinking of something negative.
I don't understand the rivalry between NHL and NBA fans. Two separate sports and both sides think the opposing sport sucks.
College football will replace all other sports as the most popular in America if it hasn't already.
This one is going to hurt to say but Derrick Walton, Jr. for as talented as he probably is will never be able to replace Trey Burke's production therefore hurting Michigan's chances to get back to make a run to the NC. I think the 2012-13 season was the pinnacle of John Beilein's career and we'll enjoy success from the basketball team but will not win a national championship.
EDIT: I also think Michigan fans are becoming quite jealous of the Michigan State football program whether they want to admit it or not. I think they feel threatened and wonder if MSU is the premiere spot for college football in the state of Michigan now. I think they believe success should only be limited to Michigan football and that somehow MSU doesn't "deserve" anything even though Mark Dantonio has won 10+ games 3 out of the past 4 seasons.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||Why do we care so much?||
we criticize the Spartans for caring too much about what Michigan does yet it looks like half of the fanbase came unhinged last night. I swear it looks like the roles have been reversed.
This game happened and it sucked but this is not indicative of the future of Michigan's program. Why does it matter so much if the Spartans are good? Can't both programs sustain success? Oklahoma and Okie State have been doing a good job of it recently.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||called it in 2011||
in reference to MSU not being the same old Spartans anymore. As long as Dantonio is there and more specifically Narduzzi then they will be legitimate. Maybe now Michigan will play with a little more fire against MSU because they have proven not to be of lesser competition.

I just don't get it. Most of the same people who send hate mail or tweet to him aren't going to say it to his face. It's like being the drunk person who doesn't know how to shut up or, I guess got the "liquid courage" to say mean things to a person's face.
