Harbaugh suspension impact on Vegas odds

Submitted by RealElonMusk on November 16th, 2023 at 4:07 PM

Fanduel has Michigan a 5.5 point favorite and -215 and this gives Michigan a 68.25% win probability.

I think it may have been at -220 so maybe the Harbaugh news moved it 2%?

Fanduel had Michigan at 5.5 before this news as well.  I've been checking multiple times per day.  The moneylines haven't moved at all either.  Nor have any of the futures.  Michigan is still the favorite at all the books I've checked, and around the same odds (between +200 and +220 to win the NC).

Clearly the oddsmakers didn't care about Stalions (nor the "21 point advantage" crocodile tears), nor do they think Ryan Day can outcoach Sherrone

This to me was a weak point in Michigan's legal case. Their claim of harm from the suspension rested on the U. of C. study of the value of having a head coach on the sideline for a game. That study found a value but it was fairly small; the Vegas line never twitched at any point as the likelihood of a suspension waxed and waned. The people whose job it is to know didn't see any value at all.

Reputational damage is no doubt real but the injunction wouldn't have changed anything there.

If all the chest puffing leads to no "binder", no scorched earth, no consequences towards the B1G and its members, the University of Michigan is full of cowards who deserve what they get.

We’re actually not. I’ve been refraining to get into this whole shit storm simply because I’m too old to worry about things I can’t change. Also this was always gonna be a fluid deal (likely still is). The big dropped it, prbly never should have picked it up. Take our medicine, cause ultimately we did things that can’t be undone…right or wrong.

Not having Harbaugh on game day sucks but he’s there during the week. OSU plays us at home, and they’re still as soft as a Taco Bell dump. Get past Maryland and then let the players speak for all of us on thanksgiving weekend!

Take our medicine?  We jaywalked.  This is the equivalent to filing an NCAA eligibility report late.  The report is fine but we broke the rule for filing on time. We broke a, per the NCAA, a cost-saving rule.  A COST-SAVING RULE.  Stalions was experimenting.  He was TRYING to gain an edge.  If he actually found an edge, then Harbaugh and company would know.  Punishment has to fit the crime or someone is being immoral, unethical, and unfortunately not accepted by the judge, illegal.  Punishment should be probation or maybe $5,000.  What happened to "equal protection under the law?" which also includes equal enforcement of the law.  Who else has gotten a 3-game suspension and for what?  If the Big 10 contract is that open to allow a personal vendetta then it isn't enforceable as there is no consideration to match that price tag.  I know I am mixing criminal law with contract law but what else do we have if we do not have the rule of law?  I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I did get a perfect score on the Michigan SOB tax law exam.

On the other hand, I agree with your second paragraph.

The odds are showing stable.

However, the university has a PR nightmare on their hands, reading the other threads.  The natives are rioting. Have to wonder how the team is feeling about all of this.

Maybe not exclusively but I would wager from the responses there are frustrated fans, alumni, former players, etc. that just might be reactive.  That is public relations.  If the energy that is currently negative strengthens and is vocal, the media will grab it, amplify it and that will be a problem.

I think if there's any movement it'll be this weekend after a second week of Moore as HC.  If UM looks good then whatever concerns Vegas would have about coaching continuity would be baked in and minimized.

So what you’re telling me is put a Ben Franklin on the sucknuts money line, and win or lose we win? Sounds like a plan to me.  I’ll gladly lose a benji for UM to rail off three straight. It would be even worse to Ohio that they got that ass whooped without Jimbo Slice even being out there.

I got Michigan at +900 to win the NC back in April. Still feeling pretty good about it. Would be more concerned if Harbaugh couldn't coach during the week or help develop gameplans.

The thumb has been placed on the scale and I doubt this is the last of it. Up to the players to blow up this bullshit.

And the fans. The fans need to make sure the refs know where the fuck they are, and that it ain't the Horseshoe.
