To hell with snowflakes: We have been attacked - be very angry

Submitted by maizenbluenc on November 17th, 2023 at 9:34 AM

The reasons why for the agreement yesterday do not matter.

What matters is we have been attacked in a unprecedented political hit campaign that includes most of our conference voting for unprecedented sanctions for our biggest game before the facts have even been decided upon by the ruling authority. OSU (or whoever has been orchestrating this) has won the battle. The B1G are overtly against us.

There is only one response: #BET

Channel you confusion and anger into next week and let it all out on the 25th at noon.

Go Blue! Beat Ohio! Screw the B1G!

I wrote this earlier, but still applies. Support your team.

I hear the pain and anger in everyone’s posts. I feel similar. But I think if there was ever a time to support this university and football team, it’s now. Morale universally may be down, our enemies are loving this, throwing their rocks and stabbing us when we are already bleeding.  So the university needs us more not than ever. We can’t join the low lifes taking their shots; we need to be there for this team and university. Family doesn’t run away at tough times, they band together. And this is family.

100% this.

A PI was hired against us and all they could find was the penny-ante bullshit molehill the media has blown up into a mountain.

There have GOT to be bigger infractions on OSU's side. If hiring PIs to to dig dirt on your rivals is the new world, I say fire the money cannon on the best PIs and fight fire with fire.

I think the next time we see Harbaugh speak will be very telling as to his stance on this whole matter, whether he feels he was stabbed in the back or that we/he did the right thing in this situation.  Yeah I'm mad that Michigan again cowered in the face of adversity but by far the most important thing is how this affects our future with Coach going forward.

If you're a true Michigan fan you support the team.

We don't have to support the regents. Unless we hear legitimate reasons for why they circumvented the impending court battle they should not get our votes at the next election.

Screw OSU in ways small and large every chance you get. Forever (or at least until we're back to baseline and then some).

If Stapleton or some "whistleblower" did the deed, screw them. (Still screw OSU, too.)

I'll get negged for this, and that's fine, but the people complaining about "the deal" just need to grow the F up.

it's almost like some of them are unfamiliar with the adage "better to go to the table than to become lunch."

A known outcome accompanied by a cessation of hostilities from the Conference, vs an unknown outcome that may well not be favorable, combined with the near-guarantee of continued hostilities from the conference, seems like a no-brainer to me.  M gave up very little when one considers that the odds weren't necessarily in our favor in court (no matter how strong their argument was), and TP was almost certain to continue his crusade against M/Harbaugh no matter what the judge said.  Now M has made Pettiti a non-factor for the rest of the football season, without ruffling any more feathers.

Yea I'm disappointed that Harbaugh won't be on the sideline tomorrow or next saturday.  but he and the team now get to focus 100% on football for the rest of the season and post-season.

Sure, I don't have all of the information that the decision-makers had when they made their decision, but with the information we do have, I have a hard time criticizing the decision they made.

most importantly:  GO BLUE!!!!

The problem is what happens the next time? And the time after that? Why do I think there will be a next time? Because it's human nature. If there's nothing else out there and the University still settled, Michigan looks weak. Others will see that weakness and attack it whenever possible. Michigan just emboldened the bully.

djmagic

November 17th, 2023 at 10:12 AM ^

That's one way of looking at it.   Personally I don't see it as weakness.  I see it as intelligent calculation.  if Buckeye/Sparty Nation want to view it as something else, I give zero fucks.

If the bully comes looking for our lunch money again later, we'll deal with him again later. We got to keep our lunch money today, which is good because there's a lot on the table that looks ready for eating.

I’d be there with you if the Michigan higher ups settled before proceeding with litigation. If the rumors are true that the Big Ten offered a two game suspension (PSU and Maryland) and Michigan said “see you in court,” then this is a horrible outcome. The only way that the Michigan senior leaders can start building trust back up immediately is to offer Harbaugh a new contract that makes him the highest paid coach in the Big Ten. This would at least show that they still believe that Harbaugh and the program were wronged, and we can read between the lines that this was the best outcome on the table.

The other thing that can makes this palatable is if other Big Ten programs get the same treatment when scandals come their way. Preemptive suspensions from the Big Ten before investigations are complete is now the precedent. I’d love to see an expose on OSU drop on Saturday/Sunday and see the Big Ten suspend Ryan Day the day after Thanksgiving while his team is eating dinner.

the rumor I saw in that direction was twofold - TP asked if M would consider self-imposing a 2game suspension.  Both M and the conference members who were in TP's ear considered it a non-starter.

TP and those other members are now a non-factor in M's pursuit of a championship this season.  That in mind, I think M made the best play possible with the cards that were showing.

There are three problems with the capitulation.

1) Maybe it shouldn't but, in reality (I've heard it already), this will be be portrayed as an admission and vindicate all the hysterical claims that this was the worst scandal in college football history. Michigan's enemies will never forget and will be throwing it up at every opportunity. It will permanently damage the reputation of the football program. Some will probably even try to use it to defame the university.

2} Now the sports reporters and other Michigan enemies will be able to use this vindication to diminish the accomplishments of the team the last few years. "That's why they suddenly became so good. They were cheating. They admitted it." Of course they shouldn't be, but all those wins will be tainted in the eyes of most sports fans who listen to the talking sports heads.

3) It didn't involve the NCAA . So they are free to add whatever penalty they want to Harbaugh and the football team/University. Since they seem to have made Harbaugh a target since he came to Michigan, it seems likely they may come up with some draconian punishment for him over what is really a minor matter.

That's exactly how I feel and how you stated these points is excellent.

It's like admitting that 2+2=5 in my book.

Jim will need to explain that he agreed to this so as to tone down the chaos and his players can concentrate on the upcoming games. This still doesn't pass the smell test.

IMO, Petitti still wants Michigan's football season to end on Nov 25th.

November 17th, 2023 at 11:22 AM ^

These three points would have still all been true no matter what the outcome was from a court case. Haters gonna hate.

Michigan was never going to argue that CS didn't send people to games. They sure haven't disputed it thus far. That fact will always and forever be fodder for your #1 and #2 above. I don't think settling with the B1G is going to affect #3 at all.

Players and coaches deserve all the support we can give.

But the administration is a bunch of Yellow bellied bootlickers.

Benito Pettiti can go fuck himself as can the rest of this conference.

OK, at this point it's now obvious that jackasses are manipulating our outrage to fish for upvotes.

This is the third rallying cry I've seen today and I haven't even had my morning coffee yet.

Fuck that shit.  Did you not hear what Craig Ross said?  The regents went behind everybody's back and brokered that piece of shit deal.  Everybody else at Michigan was aligned for the first time from the President to the AD to the legal counsel, and the regents went behind ALL of their backs.  What message does this send?

  1. We will still roll over, no matter how much we puff out our chest in public, when push comes to shove.  Hiring investigators then rallying the rest of the conference against us will yield great results!  Due process won't stand in your way!  If you can't beat Michigan on the field in the future, this is a great avenue to take!
  2. Hi Jim - we said we were all behind you but just kidding, we're going to do something even worse than capitulate; we're going to do it unilaterally against everyone else's will!  Hey I know you said feeling wanted and supported was your #1 criteria for staying but do you still want to come back anyway?

Yeah blah blah blah we don't have all the info but if the counsel is strongly opposed, that's all I need to know about their perception of our legal case.  Fuck the regents.  You know what happens when you give into a toddler's tantrums?  They'll throw a bigger tantrum next time.

Are you saying those two sentences should be taken in reflection as to what I wrote and people who share the same anger, or am I misinterpreting?

Edit:  Let me say this in case you're not checking to respond.

I understand the grand perspective that stepping back, it's a little ridiculous that people are this angry about a sport and are screaming into the ether as one of a million fans of one team in the ocean of a hundred teams.  But that mentality is, imo, a parallel to someone who thinks they shouldn't get involved in politics or vote because their voice won't be heard anyway, and they can't affect change.  They are a passenger on the waves of life so just sit back and enjoy the show.

I, and many of us it seems, disagree.  This is an important forum to share ideas, vent frustration (maybe a little bit too much), and, ideally, to affect change as Brian did in the Dave Brandon situation.  Regents are ELECTED.  If we disagree with their actions, we can do something about it.  Football is ultimately a game and I do feel a little silly comparing it to "war" but many of us live and die for it, especially for Michigan football, right or wrong.  Anger should be expressed when present and maybe even be turned into something productive.

Of note, the next phase of this. Which makes no sense is anyone who sent an email or talked to Stallions is guilty by association. That’s coming, because that’s what you get when you placate the mob. The mob always wants more.

Naw. This kind of post worked when we were ALL IN with UM to fight this injustice. Now that UM caved, what was it all for? Its like we all got ready for battle, heard the pre-battle speech, got hyped to fight, sharpened our weapons and put on our face paint and then our commander quietly surrenders in the middle of the night with no reason given.

I'll still support and root for the team but I personally feel BETRAYED by UM after puffing out my chest to everyone over this for the last 3 weeks.

Idk man…feels like wasted energy at this point.  It is just a game.  Just like a loss on any Saturday under any other circumstance, don’t let it ruin your mood/day/week/month/whatever.  It really doesn’t matter.  The kids are still getting their scholarships and NIL, and the ones who deserve it will get a paycheck at the next level.  It’s going to be okay, just block out the haters and move on.

Since we have a precedence for the Sportsmanship ruling, any thoughts that we should press to have the same punishment applied to the teams that forwarded our signals last year and Purdue for not self reporting?  I mean I would like to see Ohio without their head coach as well for the game.

I haven’t missed a game live since my kids were in youth Soccer.  So I consider myself a die hard fan,

yet even when I was at Michigan, I never wore Michigan gear.  Until now.  I’m representing on the west Coast rotating my only two Michigan shirts into my motif.

all that matters now……beat the buttguys.  That will be our vindication.

Yaup...enough of the non sense rumors, back and forth, yada yada

Shit is done and over with, B1G is done with their investigation, JH will be on the sideline come championship game and playoffs.  Buckeye fans are probably a little pissed that this is it, and we are all pissed he wont be there for the game. M got screwed big time, but other sides didnt get what they necessarily wanted either...which was full blood.

I understand all the rage and fury, if Craig Ross source is accurate (which I would assume is true, Craig doesn't BS) then its a low blow move...but its done, I personally am tired of reading/talking about it...

JUST WIN and shove it all in their faces.

I figured that someone in Columbus was having a good laugh at our expense, but I also, perhaps misguidedly, assumed that we'd have the last laugh. The only way to do that now is to win.  Bet.
