So…Who Wants to Tell Him?

Caught a bit of the Missouri / Georgia game and saw Missouri’s coach rocking this sweatshirt. Missouri’s logo is quite different. Went to the wrong online store? Perhaps it’s a gift? Perhaps a not too subtle statement about where he’d rather be?

I can't find anything definitive right now, but back in the day I was told that Michigan owns the trademark for the block M logo and Missouri pays a small fee to license it or that Michigan agreed not to enforce the trademark against Missouri.

Mizzou has used a block M for decades. Going back to the 60’s at least. The block M was even their primary helmet logo for years up until their move to the SEC in 2012.

I literally flipped on that game for about 5 minutes and saw that.  Was watching with my 7-year-old daughter who shouted “Michigan!”.  I told her it was Missouri but it was a proud dad moment

As the son of two Mizzou grads, brother of another, and grandson of a longtime physics professor/dept head at Missouri, I can assure Michigan fans that Missouri has been using various iterations of a block M for many, many decades.

If you scroll down the following web page on SEC programs, you can review the various football helmet designs the Tigers have used since the late 1950s:
