JUB says Harbaugh's contract still 'proceeding'

Submitted by lhglrkwg on November 4th, 2023 at 11:44 AM

Thought this was worth sharing as it's own thread since I consider JUB to be one of the most plugged and least hyperbolic insiders and this is the opposite of some panic from last night

Anyone who claims they know what the NCAA, the Big Ten, UM, or Jim Harbaugh will do is lying - especially with new leaders at all three institutions. This is uncharted waters, and just about anything is possible.
And oh yeah: Nobody Knows Anything.

Aside: UM is proceeding with Harbaugh's contract.

Seems like Pettiti thought he was just here to negotiate TV contracts and is in over his head already. Hopefully Ono stands firm for due process

I think all this piling on Warde stuff is unfair in this situation. We have no evidence of what he's doing or not doing. As far as I know, the B10 commissioner requested a meeting with Ono, not Warde. Ono hasn't made a statement, either. This is all being reported in the media, and it's possible Ono and the BoR told Warde to stay quiet.

AD’s do the in-game interviews? Post game interviews? Weekly interviews? Announcements about players? Introduce the newest recruiting class? AD’s make 3-5X head football coaches?

The few times AD’s will make a public statement is when they fire a coach, hire a coach, announce a new addition or update to sports facilities, or respond to an NCAA penalty/investigation.

Not looking for a statement/comment from Warde, rather (perhaps) a subtle way to show public support for Harbaugh/team without ever mentioning anything about the investigation, ie Ono's tweet.  Probably helps with the optics too.

I mean, is that a lot to ask from our AD?

The B1G commissioner should be meeting with the president and not the AD. He reports to the presidents. It would be wrong for the commissioner to meet with Warde:

Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors

The Council of Presidents and Chancellors (COP/C) holds ultimate authority and responsibility for Big Ten Conference governance. All policy is decided at the COP/C level, including the conference office annual budget and all other financial matters.

Other responsibilities of the COP/C include, but are not limited to, hiring and determining duties of the Big Ten Commissioner, enforcing conference rules, agreements, appendices and bylaws, amending or repealing bylaws and admitting new institutions into membership.

The COP/C Executive Committee conducts the regular business of the COP/C between its two annual meetings and provides direction to the commissioner in the conduct of the day-to-day operations of the conference.

The COP/C has roots that date back to early 1952. In May of that year, it was determined that the conference commissioner be employed by the 10 conference presidents, and that the commissioner shall report to that group on the enforcement of conference rules and regulations. The group, then known as the Council of Ten, was re-named the Council of Presidents and Chancellors with the inclusion of Penn State University in June of 1990.

Current COP/C members are listed below.
