OT: Mike & Mike: Make 1 out of 10 half court shots for $20M or 2 years in jail
I was listening to Mike & Mike on my way to work this morning (if you don't like Mike & Mike, you can stop reading). They were throwing out hypothetically that if you were given 10 half court shots and all you had to do was make 1 for $20 million but if you miss them all you go to jail for 2 years, would you do it? I think I would have to try this. Thoughts?
EDIT: I didn't hear how long you would have to practice, but lets just say this is a one-time chance and you would have to do this spur of the moment if you wanted a shot at it.
EDIT2: myrtlebeachmaizenblue informed us that they said it's a white collar jail, no risk of harm with conjugal visits. Also, that is $20 million net, taxes paid for you.
Yes loser. Welcome to MGoBlog. We ALL make 1,000,000 plus anually.
Seriously though....I highly doubt even a substantial fraction of the people here make 100,000 plus. I know I don't. And neither do the only two other MGoBloggers tht I actually know in person, although I am sure some here do
Must be related to Jesse Klein.
Because that takes you away from your family every single work day for some amount of money that I'm guessing is a whole lot less than $20 million divided by the number of workdays in two years.
Are you kidding? That's an unbelieveably bad deal unless you are a pretty incredible shooter. The gain in quality of life from getting the 20 million would be decent. Say, a 2x increase in quality of life. The losses from the two years in jail would be MASSIVE, at least a 10x decrease in quality of life, both due to those two years and the neverending consequences, as others have mentioned.
Personally, I would need at least 99% certainty of coming out on the good end to take that deal. Maybe higher. Given my basketball history, I'm probably 25% or less to hit one of those ten, sadly.
Nothing stops. Nothing... or you will do the hardest time there is. No more protection from the guards. I'll pull you out of that one-bunk Hilton and cast you down with the Sodomites. You'll think you've been fucked by a train!
Specifically my mother-in-law?
One who requests their mother-in-law to take the shot is obviously not expecting a monetary return on investment...
that would make it that hard to hit a half court shot.
I'd be shocked if given 10 half court shots a professional player would hit one even half the time. I remember in high school somedays we would 'practice' half court shots as a break. 6 guys on that team played d1 basketball and two are in the nba and not one of them was hitting at 1 in 10 rate and that is with no pressure.
Two of your high school teammates are in the NBA? Dang, that must have been some team.
2 years in prison is too much forcible sodomy to risk.
He'll be here all week ladies and gentlemen.
I'd do it. I have a pretty good jumper and this is the only way I'd ever sniff $20 mil. It's a huge risk, but I would take it. Especially if the two years is done in a minimum security prison.
I couldnt imagine how nerve racking that would be. You miss you go to prison. Wow.
Trust me on this - as someone that has visited his friend in about as minimum of a security prison as you can get, it's still Prison. And it's not fun, even in the least bit.
And when you get out, it's got to suck to have to explain that "gap in the résumé" to a prospective employer.

if that doesn't scream professional and highly desireable available applicant for your first job out of the joint, what would?
Raback it!
Make the shot, and Kate Upton is worshipfully in love with you for the rest of your days.
Miss the shot, and you've got Sofia Vergara screaming in your ear for the rest of your days.

I would tank it. No question
Based solely on looks, I think I'd intentionally miss. It's not that I'm so much anti-Kate, but that I'm so much pro-Sofia.
lol yeah, that was odd. Sofia Vergara is my punishment? Well, rules are rules...

As someone who has a good friend and business partner that has been in Prison (White Collar, the lowest security you can find) for the past 9 months, I can strongly say that I would not do this.
Watching my friend's life, marriage, financial situation and relationships (including the one with myself) be strained and sometimes ruined is not worth the chance for $20MM.
Now, give me 10 FREE THROWS and you've got a different story!
I'd take a 1 out of 10 free-throw bet vs prison for $10,000. But I doubt anyone would give you even $100 for that. Even Ben Wallace can hit 1 for 10.
No way. Not only do I not even remotely trust my basketball skills, but its just not worth being thrown in jail for two years, no matter how minimum security it is. The relationships with your family, significant other, and everyone else could very well be destroyed, or strained at the very least, by spending even a month there.

'every time you hit the rim'?
you sly dog.
Hell yeah! I'd get so fucking swole in jail.
How many NBA players would take that bet? I'm guessing none.
The cost/benefit isn't quite the same when you've got the equivalent to the prize money already in the bank.
Watch a pregame warmup sometime. They take half court shots as if they're jumpers.
If white collar prison: Yes, definitely. Get $20 mil or a 2 year pseudo vacation? Yes, in a second.
You get 50 shots to make it for 10 million. If you don't make it then a cheetah gets to maul your penis off. Yay or Nay?
I could make one out of 50. But why would a cheetah rip your penis off and leave the rest of you ok?
