EJ Bates was my counselor at…

EJ Bates was my counselor at camp in my Junior year of HS.... he was a few years older than me. Very cool down to earth guy - I was happy when I found out his kid was on the rise....you can tell Emoni will be successful

Bob Davie and New Mexico

I have a close family friend who’s son went to play for Davie at UNM recently. I was asked by my friend to speak with his kid a few months ago because he kind of looked up to me - the kid wanted to leave school and we all thought he was giving up too quickly and was homesick. He was on scholarship and we didn’t want to see him throw it away. I tried unsuccessfully to convince him to stay - he really, really did not like Davie or the general mood of the program. Made it seem like a very rotten culture.

A few weeks after he left these stories broke - sounds like I was wrong!

Christmas Sucks this year!

I am celebrating the second Christmas without my wife and what was to be my first born son, my wife passed away while 7 mos pregnant 1.5years should. This Christmas is definitely much more difficult than the first one. I went to my parents house with my whole moms side of the family and it was tiring and exhausting to just put a game face on. I really didn’t want to let down my mom this year so I went, but it was so tiring I wish I would’ve just stayed home. I am blessed to have such a strong family, but I definitely can relate to those who go thru difficult times during the holidays. Hopefully it will start to get easier next year, but at this point I don’t care if I ever acknowledge the holidays again!!

A sad read

I know it's tough to say but Jerry Kill should hang them up for the sake of his own health and the sake of his family. My wife had seizures as a child but not as an adult, however she passed away from a seizure about a year ago which was brought on by our pregnancy as she was 7 months pregnant.

This was a tough read for me and I really hope that kill is smart and realizes that football isn't worth risking your life and putting your family through heart ache. Not worth it

Terrible News, I feel for him

This is terrible news and a very sad thing to hear about happening to anybody, let alone someone who has (in some way shape and form) been part of my life and my Michigan fandom.

This hits very close to home because approximately a year ago my cousin, who is like a sister to me, went through the same thing and it was very painful for her and our family. Two weeks later I experienced the same loss when my wife, who was 7 months pregnant with my son, passed away.

My heart goes out to Sam and his family and I will definitely keep them in my prayers. Despite the heatbreak and tough moments that lie ahead, there will be many beautiful moments as well.

Brian Kelly

An associate/friend of mine played football for Cincinnati. He started under Dantonio and then finished under Kelly when Dantonio took the MSU job.

Spoke very highly of Dantonio but thought Kelly was an ass clown.

I AM VERY SURPRISED

That people on here are questioning Brazil's response as too much, or to just "let them leave, no big deal."

These people committed a crime in a foreign country which embarassed it on the international stage. The lied. This is very stupid to do in the United States, let alone South America.

I think that Brazil should prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Better yet, they should demand that Lochte be returned to Brazil - even going so far as to keep the other ones in the country until Locthe returns. That would make for great intrigue!

Fuck 2016?

Cmon.....the thing about growing up and getting older is that you know more people, which means that the frequency of deaths and illnesses in your life circles increases. People die every day, one day you and I will as well. Cherish life as much as possible.

I wouldn't necessarily lump kimbo in with Bowie, Ali or Prince.... But in thinking about it, the entertaining thing is that of all these people, the one that I was most familiar with was Kimbo!!! I remember him from his reality kings days.

Rest in Preace brother!

LOL

at a camp that Kirby Smart Co-Hosted, no less. Looks like the helicopter didnt make a huge impact!

Easy Answer for Me

I would take the money. In place of women, I would masturbate to porn constantly....which changes nothing from my current life. :)

Last Iowa Night Game

Iowa winning the match-up, 30-28, on Oct. 10, 2009, at Kinnick Stadium.

I remember this game very well, I was watching it while visiting my Grandmother while she was in care after her stroke (thought she was a goner, but she has mad a great recovery for the most part.)

If I can recall, Tate inexplicably got the hook for a very "green" Denard in the fourth quarter....and we couldn't punch it in.

Was a frustrating game that I thought we could've won.

I see where you coming drkm

However I am making the assumption that the drivers socioeconomic and educational background aren't extremely high, therefore it's understandable that he may have tinted the windows and purchased luxuries in lieu of a car seat.

Moral of the story is, the officer did a good thing as did the driver - who went out of his way to give him props and respect. Learning experience for all involved - do good things.

Funny Story That May Involve This

A few weeks ago I went with my Fr-in-Law and his brothers to an Italian Men's Club event at this place called the Cabota Club in Windsor - it is basically an Italian cultural center with banquet halls etc. THere is a bar/restaurant in the basement of the center (for Italian Food/Pizza fanatics, I highly recommend going there - great Pizza.)

Anyway, I was seated at the bar having a beer (about 6 in, I was pretty tipsy) and I heard a familiar voice right next to me. I turned around, and it was Bielien sitting about 6 inches from me talking about M BBall to a young, well suited gentleman (probably a HS coach in Windsor.) Anyway, there was a Windsor Area BBall event at the banquet hall that night and Bielien was the keynote speaker. I can only imagine he used this as a mechanism to recruit, perhaps the very guy in the article.

I know, cool story bro.

Arizona

It seems to me that a school like Arizona would have a tremendous amount to gain from these camps - They do not have a fertile recruiting ground but are within an earshot of SoCal and to a lesser extent Texas, so it makes complete sense for RichRod to advocate for these a great deal. Additionally, RichRod's Florida connections and his offense would play well in FL based sattelite camps.

So no, not friend - but definitely a benefit for RichRod if this gets overturned.

Great Era

Man, that was a great - but brief - era in Michigan basketball. The whole student section was wearing headbands. I remember going to the game against Duke his freshman year...it was awesome. We lost, but only by a few buckets - it was a great game! Back before the real downturn of our program took hold.

Wish he could've stayed eligible!

Rivals/Scout Etc.

As I have always been a multiple times daily avid reader of this blog for almost a decade, I never thought I ever had the need to get a subscription to Scout, Rivals etc.....but a few years ago (last coaching search) I was convinced by a friend to share a subscription.

Big waste of money - nothing you can find there IMO that you cannot here. Also feel that quality control is better here too.

This Season

is going to be one hell of an entertaining season. They storylines are all there - and the best part is, we may very well have the team to back it up.

Looking forward to September with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind!

Patiently waiting for Harbaugh's next tweet

Should be a good one. Love the attitude that Coach has brought to the program - he is not afraid to call people out, and will do so here.

Definitely taking it to the SEC - would love to see Bama on the field at some point soon (and yes, I think we are headed in the right direction of actually being able to compete with them!)

Good for Him

Hopefully he uses this opportunity to excel in the classroom and on the field (but not against us.)

Not a fan of throwing stones at high schoolers - we all make mistakes.

Disagree on the uninformed take

I went to a different big ten school before transferring to UofM. The douchebagginess factor at UofM is much higher. Of course there are entitled pricks from everywhere and good ppl from everywhere, but I found that the east coasters had a higher quotient of douchebags.

Just my personal opinion.

Long Islanders/New Yorkers/East Coasters

Will probably get attacked or negged for saying this, but whatever....as a native Michigander, got really tired of the attitude that many (not all) east coasters brought to UofM. This is a perfect example and candidly is the reason why a lot of Michiganders (many UofM students too) like hanging out and partying at MSU better. Just a better, more chill crowd.

I used to bump heads with these clowns daily. If I were this UBER driver I would've told this New York fuck to go play stickball in an alleyway.

Huh?

Your comment is a little over my head my friend. To be clear, I am a Michigan Fan (life long) and graduate. I am just calling it like it is from my perspective.

Don't throw stones

This sucks for MSU, but sucks even more so for the kid - I guess it's entirely possible that he is just a downright bad guy and doesn't deserve his scholarship, but also possible (and more likely IMO) that he is a young, immature kid that was raised in a poor environment that didn't equip him to make the best choices in life. In my older age I have much more of a leash and perspective when it comes to this stuff - I was 17 once too and while I was raised in a very good environment, still made really dumb choices that I shake my head about today.

Assuming the crime is not out of this world terrible, I have no problem with Dantonio keeping a spot open for him. Hopefully the kid gets his shit together and is able to profit off of his God given talents.

I think Caris comes back this week

Big week vs IU and MSU  - this week makes or breaks out chances at the title. Win both and we are sticking out neck out ahead of the pack. Split and we are in the thick of it. Losing both will probably kill our chances.

Kind of a weird fall from grace for edsall

perhaps this is just a short term gig until next year.

Handled his situation very respectably

Was impressed by the quotes I read - handled it like he is wise beyond his years. Dont know much about talen evaluation, but seems like a character that you would want in your program.

Could be our loss - I am fine with it, but best of luck to him and hope he succeeds wherever he goes.

Scrooge

Call me a signing day scrooge, but can we just sign the players and be done with it? Is this really necessary?

I think we are all missing the point here

And it's not that Weaver has decommitted, or had his offer pulled - but that HE NEEDS TO CHARGE HIS PHONE. How can we expect him to be a model student athlete at Michigan when he CANT EVEN CHARGE HIS PHONE BEFORE IT GETS RED?

Joking aside, handled this situation with class and hope he does well wherever he ends up

I liked Summerlin

Actually, I have family in Summerlin and visited there the last two times I was out there - I liked it, seemed like a pretty nice place to live.

My dislike of Vegas really just has to do with the Strip (and Downtown.) If you're not a gambler, and not wowed by glitz, glamour and "plastic," Vegas kind of sucks. Buyt traveling around the city and outskirts and seeing the terrain, landscapes was kind of cool.

Stay at a hotel

I am not a Vegas fan, despite having to go there every year (for work.) The one cool thing about Vegas is walking through and seeing all the different hotels. People watching is also awesome in Las Vegas as well.

I just dont really like the place - everything in Vegas is centered around extracting money out of your pockets. Seriously, everything - if they could figure out how to surcharge for oxygen, they would. It just becomes annoying after a while.

Disclaimer - I am not a gambler.

Also - everyone told me that watching sports in Vegas is awesome. I watched the The Game there this year. It sucked.

Also - if you can afford it, stay at Aria.

No Disrespect

However I get the feeling that you are college age or younger. With respect to responding to "getting shafted in a big game," I would respond that "it sucks, but it's a game."

One of the best things that happened with my fanhood is that I grew up and took on more responsibilities - when we lose a game, and when we have a bad season, it hurts - but I don't lose any sleep or get angry about it anymore because I have way more important things to worry about. It is a breathe of fresh air.

With respect to Swenson - it sucks, hopefully he doesn't get "shafted," but it's life. And ever think to consider that he may not have worked very hard over the past cpl of years, which is why the coaches are cooling on him?

Not saying that is the case, just saying that there are many things that happen in life that are luck and unlucky. You can work hard and make your own luck, but at the end of the day you play the chips you are dealt. Nothing is stopping Swenson from becoming an NFL hall of famer if he doesn't go to UofM.

I sound more and more like my father

Everyday. I am 32 years old - not wise and experienced by any means, but I have had enough experience in the real world at this point to know a thing or two.

If I were advising Erik, I would tell him "welcome to the real world." This is how shit works sometimes - it won't be the last time things turn out unfairly for him in life, it all comes down to how he handles it. Harbaugh is paid to put a winning product on the field and its up to him and his staff to recruit how they feel is best to do it.

Life isn't fair - sometimes it is downright shitty. If Erik gets his scholarship yanked them so be it - he is talented and will land on his feet somewhere. There are many worse injustices and shitty things that happen to people on a daily basis, this is nothing.

Awesome Advice Everyone

Thank you - I really appreciate it. Definitely very excited, just can't wait a few weeks until we can come out with it.

Trying

Surprisingly getting pregnant isn't as easy as some ppl think - My wife was obsessed with Ovulation kits etc and it took us about 6 months. Not everyone is Antonio Cromartie Good luck - Your wife (and you) will be excited when your blitz finally hits home!

Plus, the whole baby making thing is kind of fun lol.

Thanks Everyone

Great advice - SLEEP is the #1 piece of advice I have been getting from everyone, not just here!

Thanks!

Yes, the blog finds out before our family - can't tell anyone yet it's too early. Supposedly you should wait until 12 weeks or so.

I think this is a good decision

Personally as a Detroiter (but not a HUGE Lions fan, but a follower) I think that this is a good decision. I am not a fan of the knee jerk coaching carousel that the NFL (and college to an extent) has become. For all intents and purposes, his first season was a success and while his second wasn't - they lost a lot of games on close calls and flukes.

Give him another year to make the playoffs and see what he can do. Plus, this may keep CJ around for a year?

Penn State

Maybe it's just me, but I can't for the life of me figure out the allure of Penn State. Obviously it's a big school and their facilities are probably great, but I wouldnt choose PSU over similar comparables - MSU, etc.

I dont know, they just dont excite me - the town is kind of weak, in the middle of nowhere, and the whole Sandusky thing is creepy.

O'Korn

This information would vibe with what my insiders have told me as well (regarding O'Korn.)

That said, I am a little skeptical sometimes with these practice reports - because the same ppl told me that BRandon Smith was a future all american and that Devin Gardner would've been the best WR in the B10 (might've been true if he stayed there.)

Same ppl also said Mike Cox was the best RB at MI since Mike Hart but was in the doghouse too much with RR.

I am still here

Read this blog daily but don't really have time to post as adult life has taken hold.

My source was actually my brother, who was best friends and roommates with two players at the time, who's source was Demar Dorsey's cousin, who we know as Denard Robinson. I felt pretty confident calling it with that source lol.

Anyway, love this blog and love the fact that my prediction is still talked about!! It's definitely a notch on my belt!

Formatting

Sorry for this.... It has been a long time since I last posted, I am not sure how the formatting works. Looked fine on my phont

Damn

Very sad.

QBs on Roster

I hope Hill transfers to Michigan, and if he does, I dont think that necessarily says much about the other QBs on our roster. QB is THE most important position on a football team - You cannot win championships without a good to elite QB (as we've seen, IMO from our team this year.)

Harbaugh understands the importance of this and is stacking the deck to make sure he gets QBs that will compete and cream rising to the top.

He's a Perfect Fit

Almost fell on his face?

He's a perfect fit...a Lesser athlete would've gone down!

Prison is not a joke

Trust me on this - as someone that has visited his friend in about as minimum of a security prison as you can get, it's still Prison. And it's not fun, even in the least bit.

No Way - Would Not Do It

As someone who has a good friend and business partner that has been in Prison (White Collar, the lowest security you can find) for the past 9 months, I can strongly say that I would not do this.

Watching my friend's life, marriage, financial situation and relationships (including the one with myself) be strained and sometimes ruined is not worth the chance for $20MM.

Now, give me 10 FREE THROWS and you've got a different story!

I meant....

...."but in a classy way." That  said, Dantonio wouldnt bow down to us, would attack us in any way possible, and luckily for him his results on the field backed it up.

I'd like Harbaugh to bring the same intensity to our rivalry with OSU (and MSU) for that matter, and I think he does and will.

We got our Mojo back.

Very Mark Dantonio-Esque

But in a classy way. If Harbaugh brings to the M-OSU rivarly what Dantonio did to ours with MSU, I will be very pleased.
