Rashad Weaver's offer list explodes - Good for him

Submitted by JimmyFresh on

Rashad Weaver has gotten a lot of attention since his decommitment from Michigan.  Some notable offers include programs like Kentucky, Penn State, Pitt, Vanderbilt, and Virginia among other P5 offers.  I imagine he might get a few more before it is all said and done.  I am happy to see that he has lots of very good options.  Looks like Harbaugh isn't such a jerk after all.

It gets you on the radar for sure and generates a lot of buzz for sure, but it also means people stop pursuing you until word gets out that Michigan isn't really an option. By then, some places that otherwise would have taken you are full. So I think it's a bit of a double edged sword, although probably a net positive as long as you aren't cut loose with zero time left in the process, which looks like wasn't the case here.

That is not how it works man.   Until kids get signed on the dotted line, they are free to look around and other programs are free to contact them...which they do. One of  Michigans top OL recruit is reportedly taking a visit to MSU etc.

That's all well and good or power 5 schools and 4-5*s. For a middling recruit, another top school isn't going to take the time to full court press an already committed guy that isn't high on their board. For the lower level schools, they probably don't think it's worth their time to try and steal a recruit away from Michigan, which is obviously a long shot. Like I said, until word comes out that things might not work out at Michigan, interest from other schools is going to be suppressed.

I agree there is nothing altruistic, but regarding "Michigan commit", think you're wrong. We've seen many times that services re-rank guys after such a commitment (if they are lower ranked or unranked) and that can lead to other offers from other programs. And 3 star guys without a lot of big offers can look good on the twitters with that handle

You are wrong.  And angry for some reason.  You don't think it draws a lot of attention of P5 schools when a UM commit decommits with no real perceived leader?  If not, then where were all these offers all that time when he was committed?  Do you think the other programs were like "welp, he's a good player and all, but he's already committed, so we better not offer him"....?

You're incredibly incorrect. If Michigan sees something in an unheralded recruit and allows that recruit to commit it raises their profile considerably. Good teams they may otherwise not have taken the time to notice the player will now notice and give him a look SHOULD HE BECOME AVAILABLE AGAIN. Weird, that happened in this case and now the player is getting a ton of decent offers.

So yeah, you're wrong. You should feel bad.

Was impressed by the quotes I read - handled it like he is wise beyond his years. Dont know much about talen evaluation, but seems like a character that you would want in your program.

Could be our loss - I am fine with it, but best of luck to him and hope he succeeds wherever he goes.

He's taking official visits to Pitt and Penn State.

He must be quite bright.  He has offers from Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, and Virginia.  All absolute top-notch schools.  Not to mention, a service academy in Air Force.  Obviously, all outstanding places.  Looks like he might end up at Pitt or Penn State though.

I'd tell him to pick UVa over Vandy.  UVa is larger and probably has a more national alumni base, which would help him down the road.  Charlotttesville is gorgeous, the campus is magnificent, and he'd get pummelled on the field less often in the ACC than the SEC at Vandy.  UVa also fashions itself as something of an unparallelled party school, notwithstanding its excellent academics.

While a bit biased, I must disagree.   Both football programs are bottom feeders.  Unfortunately, Vandy is back to where it prior to Franklin, but I always thought Franklin hit Vandy at the perfect storm.   Yes, he could recruit, but he never won a lot fo big games.  He won the majority of the weak non-conference opponents they faced, and then caught UF, UT and UGA during low times in their programs.  Also, didn't have to play Bama, LSU or Auburn in their crossover games.   I think it is all showing now with how Franklin is doing at PSU.  Yes, he still recruits well, but his coaching is lackluster to say the least.   On the other hand, sure, UVa has a new head coach and the optimism is high right now, but when all said and done, it is not a good football program and has not been for awhile.  It is a very good university, and is larger than Vanderbilt, but I think Vandy is much more national in nature.  Most in part due to it being a private school, rather than a state university.  While Charlottesville is beautiful as is their campus, Nashville is easily one of the most popular cities in the country right now and is blowing up.  Vandy's campus is always rated as one of the most beautiful.  As for football, the SEC is far and away a better conference than the ACC.   Both great schools and campuses, but not so easy to just say UVa is better because they may or may not party harder or have a larger student body.

That he isn't a very good prospect, he committed to M when Durkin was DC, Durkin needs players badly but hasn't offered Weaver. Coaches reach out to anyone they know when they change schools here's a kid who was thinking Temple a few days ago he would have pounced all over it.

Every one of these kids who were dropped or left, get a Harbaugh Bump.

Thats part of the deal and these kids know it!

Unfortunately d-bags like Teddy Ruxpin of that Chicago website have no clue about the benefits that being temporarily committed to Michigan has on a lower level recruits offer sheet.

Erik Swenson has made only one non-official visit to Wisconsin and has yet to schedule an official visit anywhere.  He does have a gray shirt offer from Wisconsin, so he has that going for him.  You might think programs would be lining up to sign a 6'7" OT, but that doesn't seem to be the case with Swenson.
