Disagree

While a bit biased, I must disagree. Both football programs are bottom feeders. Unfortunately, Vandy is back to where it prior to Franklin, but I always thought Franklin hit Vandy at the perfect storm. Yes, he could recruit, but he never won a lot fo big games. He won the majority of the weak non-conference opponents they faced, and then caught UF, UT and UGA during low times in their programs. Also, didn't have to play Bama, LSU or Auburn in their crossover games. I think it is all showing now with how Franklin is doing at PSU. Yes, he still recruits well, but his coaching is lackluster to say the least. On the other hand, sure, UVa has a new head coach and the optimism is high right now, but when all said and done, it is not a good football program and has not been for awhile. It is a very good university, and is larger than Vanderbilt, but I think Vandy is much more national in nature. Most in part due to it being a private school, rather than a state university. While Charlottesville is beautiful as is their campus, Nashville is easily one of the most popular cities in the country right now and is blowing up. Vandy's campus is always rated as one of the most beautiful. As for football, the SEC is far and away a better conference than the ACC. Both great schools and campuses, but not so easy to just say UVa is better because they may or may not party harder or have a larger student body.

This is not Paul's son.

This is not Paul's son.

I think Franklin is a fraud.

I think Franklin is a fraud. While I appreciate what he did for Vandy, he did it with smoke and mirrors. They have a week non-conference schedule year in and year out. Then they had Tennessee and Florida both down for the years he was there. Furthermore, their crossover games with the SEC West were against the weaker opponents, not including Bama or Auburn. He did better than any recent Vandy coach, but it was a perfect storm for him. He can recruit, but can he coach. Sounds familiar to me.

Disregard my above post as we

Disregard my above post as we have seen that the law in Ohio or at least this county in Ohio requires the alleged defendant to see the Judge and be held without bond. Although hearing the supposed details which had surfaced this far, charging is the right move. Injuries and witnesses can allow a case to proceed even without victim cooperation.

A little insight into

A little insight into Michigan misdemeanors for DV. Not sure if Ohio works the same or not. I have already had a call this morning from a police department which I handle prosecution for. Guy goes to jail last night for Domestic Violence because of a call made for a domestic disturbance. They have to take someone into custody to diffuse the situation. Girl in morning doesn't want to pursue charges, so guy is released from jail with no charges issued because you aren't going to proceed with a case with no cooperation from victim, unless their are significant injuries. Of course we don't know any facts at this time, but I would say it isn't a slam dunk he is charged at this time.

Bates

The Ph.D he has from Vanderbilt has to help his chances with Schlissel making a large part, if not all of the decision.

Hire BB

Not a better choice out there. First hand experience.

Lazy

I am just as lazy in that I won't look it up, but I do know that they won the Men's NCAA Golf Championship this past year and quite possibly won it back to back, or were runner up last year.

Iowa Game????

EDIT: Sorry, but while writing this down, others jumped on the same issue and probably explained it in a more concise fashion.

Without getting into anything to do with the alleged act itself, because it is repulsive, if true, I do have one question regarding Hoke/Brandon and Co.'s actions.

I understand why he was evasive in his responses to the media as to Gibbons. He didn't really have a choice in the matter as it was an internal issue, not a public/criminal issue.

It states in the article and timeline above that a letter dated November 20, 2013 was produced that stated that beyond a POE, he had committed sexual assualt in violation of the student code. When did Gibbons receive this correspondence and when did Hoke/Brandon and his staff find out about it? Was it sent to his home in Florida and Gibbons didn't find out until his parents received it and informed him? Does Hoke/Brandon not find out until Gibbons tells them himself.

The reason I ask this is he played in the Iowa game three days after that letter was produced. If Hoke/Brandon let him play while fully knowing this letter existed, they have problems. I understand at that point it was only a charge from the University and Gibbons had not given his side of the story as he did in early December, but it is still an allegation and he could have had a "muscle issue" a week earlier and not travelled.

On the other hand, if they knew nothing about it untiil after the game, then I believe they acted correctly and he didn't play against OSU or in the Bowl Game.

NCAA

Total conjecture here, but I would guess it is some NCAA violation. While I applaud Dantonio, he does exactly have a track record as a disciplinarian. See: Grant Winston. I bet he didn't have a choice.

Perfect scenario

I wouldn't say this is realistic, but would be ideal.

We win 10-7 with only gaining 125 total yards of offense. A pick six and a FG. Otherwise the D plays great with a bunch of turnovers, but we can't move it and Wile has a lot of work punting all day.

We feel good about the win, but a change still is needed on the OC, OL and so forth.

Realistically, we either lose by more than 3 TDs or win a close one. Nothing in between.

Ideal Situation

The ideal situation is to win 10-7. We get a field goal and a pick six (with EP of course). Otherwise our offense is awful and gain only about 150 total yards of offense. Our D on the other hand is lights out and we hold them to one TD for the day.

A win, but another reminder of how far our offense has to go.

GO BLUE regardless of the outcome. Just think, if fans gave up on their teams after a bad season or two, MSU wouldn't even have a program anymore.

Grow up

Not all OSU fans are worthless. Some are called friends. You are probably the one who would get a drink spilled on you or thrown at you while at the Horseshoe. Grow up and realize everyone cheers for their favorite team and sometimes that team is not Michigan.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I had that happiness crushed. Vandy had already won their noon game prior to Michigan taking the field. The other bummer is the more Vandy wins these games, the less of a chance of James Franklin coaching for Vanderbilt next year. However, I can't blame the guy for going after money and a bigger program. A bowl game is the highest it will get for Vanderbilt. No matter how much better their program is doing and how many top recruits they get, they will never compete week to week in the SEC. Stanford has done it, NW has showed they can, but in the SEC, it is just unfair to compete with Bama, LSU, etc and how they treat recruiting and their football. So is life. I wish Vandy was brought into the B1G rather than Maryland or Rutgers, but I understand the Nashville TV market doesn't quite compare to NYC or DC.

Presser

A lot of people care about what they say at their press conference. People are going to be upset at the results regardless. I would say Hoke, his staff and the players are much more upset than any fan. But, if he would have made a comment like Muschamp did, I would feel better about it than the usual nothing response from Hoke. Let the fans know how much they care and what he is going to do. It may settle some fan's disappointment. I know it would mine.

Take Responsibility

I am not able to start my own new thread, but I believe this fits here just as well. My issue is not with Hoke as the Coach. Sure, there are things I wish he did more of and less of. I could care less if he wears a headset and don't care whether he wears short sleeves or long sleeves. I just want him to take responsibility for this team a little more and let people of know of his displeasure (I would assume he is displeased). I ran across the following quote when reading an article on the Vanderbilt - Florida game. Note, by sharing this quote, I do not claim that I wish we had Muschamp as our coach, I just want Hoke to take responsibility while righting the ship.

"I’m a competitor. I don’t like losing. I certainly don’t like the product we are putting on the field, and that’s my responsibility. I take full credit for that," he said. "When it’s good, it’s good. When it’s not good, it’s not good, and it hasn’t been good. And that’s on me. We’ll make the decisions to move forward that we need to do to help this football team in the latter part of the season as we move forward. That’s my plan. I’m not asking for anybody to be happy. I’m not asking anybody to give a pass." - Will Muschamp, 11/9/13 after loss to Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt

Don't forget the two Vandy courses on list. Not rated as high, but a heck of a complex with a really cool new team clubhouse and hitting area set to be dedicated at the end of this month.

Minimum Wage

If he is getting paid with an education at UT, then he is making about minimum wage.

Sorry. It is Vandy-UT week. Vandy has won twice in the last 30 years I believe.

Kramer legend jersey?

Who is wearing 87?

Come on...

I am assuming you forgot you /s. So Private schools don't deserve the rankings they have because "you can't flunk out"?

Go Dores

Saw this a few days ago and as a Vandy alum was thinking about posting, but thought I would catch too much heat for it. Glad Vandy is getting the appreciation I have seen thus far on the Board. Go Dores.

Bars and Breakfast

Many of these have already been mentioned, but just confirming them. I was there in undergard and it is a great city and you all should have fun.

Pancake Pantry is a must for breakfast.

Downtown and Printer's Alley are fun and will fit the "non-mellow" fun you are looking for.

Closer to Vandy is my all time favorite SATCO. Good for a warm afternoon to eat chips/queso and drink buckets of beer. South Street is a really cool bar right off of campus and 21st avenue.

Agree

Pancake Pantry is the best breakfast place, hands down.

On Tap

From Wisconsin originally. Spotted Cow is the best beer made. On tap especially.

nor Vandy...

Can't you tell by our record over the years. No cheating.

Yes...

Not saying much, but the only school from the SEC not to be on probation. I guess that stat could be incorrect now with Mizzou and aTm now in the conference.

Barnes & Noble had them yesterday

In Barnes & Noble (Flint) yesterday to pick something else up for my wife. As I am walking through, there is a display with many copies of the book. Picked it up and started last night. I asked the employee why it was out already and she said there was no official sale date, so as soon as they received them, they put them out.

NIU

I have heard from some Rational Spartan fans that he is at NIU with former MSU assistant Mark Montgomery.

UofM

The tournament is on the UofM course which, without any confirmation, has also been rumored to be closed tomorrow. I was just trying to give another reason why they would close the course. It is first and foremost one of the nicest courses in the US and recently rated as one of the top 30 College courses in the Country (along with Radrick Farms).

Golf Tournament

The Men's Golf Team is hosting a big tournament there on Monday and Tuesday.

Go Dores!

Hopefully Coach Franklin can move the program in the right direction and keep it that way.

Go Dores

Heaven knows my Commodores could use a class like that.

Thanks.

Much appreciated.

OSU Letter

Overall, the letter was pretty damning. One thing among many that I found interesting was on page one which described the possible punitive penalties. In there it stated that JT would have no involvement in Spring Practice 2011 or Summer Camps. Then, at the end, a list of the self imposed penalties was listed and there was no mention of Spring Practice.

There is a lot going on here and I think OSU is in some major trouble with the NCAA. Ask Michigan, once the NCAA gets on campus, they find more things then they may have originally been looking for. It could be a slipperly slope and bad next year for Sweatervest. I predict he is not coaching the Buckeyes in 2012. My guess is he "resigns" after this season, right before the totality of a lengthy investigation wraps up.

Woodshop

Union Woodshop in Clarkston is better than Slows. Only downside is that it was just named Freep's restaurant of the year. Owned by same guys as Clarskston Union.

Cotton Bowl

I still feel as though there is massive speculation and rumors on many things, but no confirmation. JH, RR nor DB have said anything. It is all speculation and one rumor building upon another.

FWIW, I think if RR is fired, it will be Miles and they are just waiting for Friday. I have no support for that. It is basically a hunch.

Just like all the other news releases.

Update

I tried to post, but my point level, which is unknown to me, may be too low. I was able to comment of course.

Just tried.

We shall see, but I just tried to post. It may be slow.

Vandy

Vandy is only about 6,000 undergrad and around 10,000 total including grad students.

M's at least

Just thought simply putting 4 block M's in the corners would add a lot to the dimension of it. Right now for the average guy watching TV (not a Michigan fan), if they see simply the structures, and not the field, they have no idea what they are looking at.

Sorry.

double post.

one use allowed

Not sure how true that is, but maybe. The reason I say that is Scotch was made long before Bourbon was. My understanding from talking with some bartenders in Scotland a few weeks ago is that Scotch barrels can be used multiple times and buying them used is much cheaper than new ones each time. Bourbon barrels on the other hand can only be used once. Not sure if that is government only allowing one use or the distillers only wanting to use the barrels once.

Bakers

Bourbon is my drink of choice. My favorite by far is Bakers. Many places get confused when i ask for it and think I mean Makers Mark. Bakers is in the same category as Basil Hayden's and Bookers, but I think it is a little sweeter which makes it easier to drink on the rocks. I drink it that way or make it a Bourbon press and had a splash of 7 and a splash of soda. Great drink. Blantons is very good as well, but overall, I have yet to find a better tasting bourbon than Bakers.

By the way Scotch and Bourbon although cousins of some sort, are polar opposites as far as I am concerned. The only interesting significance is that Scotch is now stored in old Bourbon barrels. They are shipped to Scotland from America after being used.

State

I only did a quick glance to see where Vandy was this year and then decided to see how the other Big Ten schools were ranked. Did I read it correctly that State is the lowest ranked Big Ten school? Wow!

genuine answer

I think Valenti knows his sports better than most. He understands the CBA's and how trades and drafts can work for the respective professional teams. He understands college football strategies, players and coaches. Does he know it as well as Brian, no. Does he know it better than most of his callers, yes. I am not saying he is the greatest host ever, but he is not as stupid as most on here make him out to be. He just tries to take the stance that he is as critical of MSU as he is UofM and that is simply not true. I think if he had someone on his show that didn't stay on his knees the whole time and confronted him on outlandish comments towards Michigan, he would be much better. Right now, he has free reign because Foster is such a bumbling idiot. I would imagine Valenti would tell you the same thing.

Valenti and Webb

Let me first state that I don't get 1050 very well where I live, so I listen to 97.1. Valenti is actually a very knowledgable sports host. Yes, he is biased towards State. He should be. He even admits it. No different than Sam is. The thing that makes 97.1 so tough to listen to is how the station is set up and then Terry Foster. Matt Dairy can decide which calls to put on and he is tight with Valenti, so he serves up softballs. Then, on top of it, whenever there is a good discussion with points being made against Valenti, the caller gets dropped and the can't come back to support himself. Terry Foster is useless. When he is hosting solo, I literally have to turn it off. He is useless. What actually would be good radio is if Valenti and Webb hosted something together. It would be fun and they both would be put in their place when something biased was brought up.

Damn

Damn I say. We were still a long way from competing every weekend, but at least with Johnson, there was a chance. Hopefully some type of structure has been built that will continue to allow for the dream of the Music City Bowl each year.

There must be something else to the story though. Alwasy is.

Agree

I would rather see the Spartans lose than Ohio State. Ohio State's team is easier to respect since they are for the most part players we were going for. Yes, their fans are redneck, but usually they are just people you are laugh at. Although redneck, they are not jealous like Spartan fans. They just really think they should be looked at equally to Michigan fans. When i say that, I mean as far as respecting their team is concerned. Yes, they have won a few in a row, but overall, it is not even a series. I have a feeling we will be back to old times soon. We have had a worst two seasons in recent history and they have beaten us by 14 in a somewhat close game and then they nearly crapped the bed and eventually won in overtime. Let them get excited all they want and let them enjoy it while they can. They are a striving middle of the pack team at best.
