Hoke Presser
SOS as expected. Opening statement:
- lack of execution
- that's on me / coaches
- lack of leverage
- players work their tails off
- our goals are still out there
You can cut and paste the opening statement from almost any game the past 2 years.
Working thru the Q&A as we speak for chuckles.
EDIT - 2nd question was about Shane possible concussion. Answer paraphrased - I don't know that he is concussed. Shane is a tough kid. If he wanted out he would have came to the sidelines.
Mother of god.
EDIT2 - here is the exact quote since it will bring up a lot of discussion. Apparently you are supposed to self diagnose your own injuires.
Well I don't know.. you know.. I don't know...he might have had a concussion or not. I don't know that. And that wasn't something... and Shane's a pretty competitive tough kid. And Shane wanted to be the QB. And so...believe me...if he didn't want to be he would have come to the sideline or stayed down.

That would require Dave Brandon doing the obvious thing. What evidence have we seen that he ever does that?

Not having an acceptable protocol for student safety, in today's day and age, is a huge no-no. From Hoke's comments, it sounds like we literally do not have one. Or if we do, we weren't following it.
This goes above the AD -- the regents and president will say, "Wait...you don't have anyone who--when a student looks like he might have a concussion who actually verifies it? You rely on the student to take himself out?" and they'll have Hoke's own words to show, he--in fact--does not have any idea on this important topic. Combine that with historic-level losing, fans leaving in droves, and Hoke is history. Sooner rather than later.

And he will not be a true Michigan Man and resign. We are stuck with him until after the OSU game. Brandon will fire him to save his ass. Then Brandon will hire another lousy coach to save some bucks. Brandon's new coach will get us back to 7 wins per season in 3 years and everyone will be happy!
September 28th, 2014 at 6:15 AM ^
Seriously, it's time to stop looking for a Michigan man. Let's get a coach that will win and actually care about these kids.
September 28th, 2014 at 1:33 AM ^
He has absolutely no capability to handle the media shitstorm that's coming his way.
This isn't guys asking about the spread punt or why so and so didn't play. People are going to expect a non-bullshit answer for this and he does not know how to do that. He's going to look real bad.

"I don't know that he is concussed. Shane is a tough kid. If he wanted out he would have came to the sidelines."
Oh for fuck's sake you are a goddamn grown up. In 2014. And you just "toughnessed" traumatic bain injury.
At least I don't have to keep thinking he is a good guy and feeling bad when he gets shit-canned on Monday.

From Hoke's Pov, why should he have known there was a head injury? All Hoke should have known was a leg injury.
September 27th, 2014 at 9:18 PM ^
It was on the jumbotron.
Morris had to be held up by his offensive lineman.
He'd been limping all over the field since the hit in the endzone when he was trying to prevent a safety.
The game was pretty much over, so why leave a hurt player on the field.
Players on the field were trying to wave on the trainers to look at Morris.
What the fuck is wrong with you that you don't understand any of these things?
September 27th, 2014 at 9:57 PM ^
There should have been a targeting penalty, even the announcers said so. He hit the jawline area with the crown of this helmet.
September 27th, 2014 at 9:03 PM ^
Are you fucking kidding me?
September 27th, 2014 at 9:15 PM ^
I hope you're not a football coach. That's actually not a good attitude to have when you're entrusted with young kids.

This photo will be the defining image of the season, and probably the Hoke era.

I took a long walk after the game but felt sick when I got back to my apartment. The picture didn't help per se but it helped me re-center my feelings.

How am I supposed to support this? What this organization has become? Yesterday I could say Hoke loses but at least he operates with honor and integrity. Now we're just a no-talent program with a no-talent head coach who doesn't even care for the safety of his players, whom he's on multiple occasions likened them to sons. I'm no longer a fan until he is gone. I won't watch another game or go to another game. And don't get me wrong, I'll watch losers until the cows come home. But don't throw a 19 year old kid in the game who is getting the shit kicked out of him and literally being concussed on the field back in the game so you can try and save your own ass.
September 27th, 2014 at 8:51 PM ^
BTN posted the link on fb and said something along the lines of "you're gonna want to see this." I watched it and I was underwhelmed. Why did I want to see that BTN? To watch Hoke say nothing and make a fool of himself? I don't really need to see that. I was hoping he resigned in the middle of the damn thing.
September 27th, 2014 at 8:52 PM ^
I just plain don't want to hear this man talk anymore.
September 27th, 2014 at 10:51 PM ^
Same here.
Actually, I havent wanted to hear him since last year.
When the game is about to come on over the internet, I put it on extra low volume until I hear Brandy just so I dont have to hear Hoke during the pregame. Cant stand his voice or any of the things he says over and over that have little to no substance.
Never liked the hire of Hoke. Brian's initial assessmenta and forecast of what was to come was SO right. And yet I wished so bad when he said it he would be proven wrong.
Brandon seriousy screwed MI football with this hire. Funny thing is, I always thought Hoke was an iterim placeholder ( a pawn if you will) for THE BIG HIRE that Brandon had in mind. Alas, I have come to conclude Dave Brandon is the Jerry Jones of college football--profits are paramount, winning is an after thought.
To hear the fear for the safety of Morris in the voices of Brandstetter and Dierdorf today, that really got to me. I havent even seen the footage yet. This is unexcusable negligence.
September 28th, 2014 at 2:23 AM ^
What is the point of him even having a press conference? He gives out no information, ever. And the information he does decide to give is intentionally inaccurate (i.e. lies). The press might as well not even attend.
September 27th, 2014 at 8:54 PM ^
He'll never get a head coaching job and a major school after this. Evryone knows what idiot he is. I wonder if he actually believes the bullshit lines he is feeding everyone. Every time he opens his mouth, more pure bullshit comes out. He makes RR look like a Rhoades scholar.
Wow, it's amazing that this program and athletic Dept have fallen this far.
And Hoke told Brandy twice in the pregame interview that "we're close". Now he is at the brink. How can the players even believe in this staff now?

The play where Morris took the head shhot: They rolled the pocket and he limped the whole way on the rollout, then got smoked in the chin.
Why would you even make him rollout when he can barely walk?
September 27th, 2014 at 8:56 PM ^
CLUELESS!
I don't believe for a minute that if he knew Shane was injured he would not have taken him out. But in his defense, he doesn't know what is going on whether it is with his football team, strategy, what is going on during the game or what the other team is doing to his team. He wants to win as much as anyone but it is beyond his mediocre talents. But the poor guy doesn't have a clue and far be it for any of us to criticize him for something he is unable to do.
What happened to Morris and the failure to get him out is the same as Brandon not recogniziing that he has a hapless coach doing the best he is capable of but does not have the skill set to get it done. Yet Brandon leaves him in as coach causing embarrassment not only to Hoke but tgo the brand the Michigan once stood for in football. For Hoke's sake, Brandon should relieve him of his duties and reassign him to other Michigan jobs in the AD office.
Brandon should have mercy on this man. Hoke will not quit because doesn't understand what is going on with the team.
September 27th, 2014 at 8:57 PM ^
I guess it would be one thing if things were so chaotic that Hoke didn't fully understand the situation with Shane as it appeared to the rest of us, but he looked hurt and out of it - regardless, however, that should have meant the bench and some medical attention, in my opinion. I really can't understand how the renaissance he has given "Michigan's culture", if you will, survives intact the Morris thing today - it might stuggle on, but there's a lot of damage to repair, I think. I worry about the effect on not just recruiting, but everything now.
September 27th, 2014 at 8:58 PM ^
..."He would have come to the sideline or stayed down".
Now in addition to a possible brain and leg injury, Shane Morris has tire tracks right across his back.

When Gardner went in, Bellomy became the backup. The backup is one play away from going in due to injury or in this case, the QB losing a helmet and needed to sit out a play. So why was Bellomy NOT prepared to go in at a moments notice?
Anyway you look at it, Michigan looked even more unprepared than humanly possible.
September 27th, 2014 at 9:07 PM ^
Would a Harbaugh coached player ever pull those shenanigans? Would a properly prepared team be laughing and smiling on the sideline while being clobbered by Minnesota? The team didn't even approach Morris as he limped off the field! No team chemistry and no leadership! The team had given up and the coaches gave up on the team.
September 27th, 2014 at 9:09 PM ^
I could be wrong, but I believe that Bellomy signals in plays. He doesn't carry around his helmet and he can't just run off to get it. Someone has to understand the situation and make sure he gets it. Who is in charge of that I don't know.
