So I know we are making fun of this an all but it seems kind of newsish. If he hadn't been contacted or wasn't considering it, wouldn't he just deny instead of saying "I haven't thought about it"?
OTOH Isn't Mo still involved in the athletic department in some way? Hard to imagine he wouldn't be working on putting together a coalition to stop any outreach to Miles.

Notre Dame pre-BK maybe. The current ND was in the NC game (albiet flukily) 20 months ago, and, despite a hilarious last three weeks, is bowl eligible with a much harder schedule than ours.
We can only dream of being ND right now.

A month after VE day, Winston Churchill got wrecked in the first election after the war.
There is nothing wrong with saying "you are the best thing that's ever happend to us, please let us know where you want your statue(s)" while simultaneously saying it's time to move on.

Attempting to make this relevant to POTUM's plans seems a stretch. The Ivies have fudged their admissions standards significnatly more the last several years than they used to, and "need based" financial aid is routinely turned into scholies under the table, but it's still a very different model than the I-A model. As mentioned above, with the possible exception of Stanford, I-A admissions standard are, and will continue to be, clearinghouse minima. Schlissel doesn't mean changing that significantly when he talks about "balance."
Off topic FWIW, I think the deemphasis of athletics comes at a serious cost to campus life. I was at a campus bar for both tournament games this year and no one was watching. I had to ask one place (think downscale Ashley's or upscale Jug) to change just one TV away from the other games to Harvard/Cinnci; no one else was aware they were playing. We'll go to the game tomorrow because we need an excuse to drink in the morning, but sports are completely invisible even when sucessful here. As a result there is almost no reason for iteraction between studnets from schools and programs.

Don't know why this is downvoted, this is (should be) a serious suggestion. He has turned Harvard into a top team in I-AA every year (this year is pretty typical: currently 7th or 8th I-AA per Sargin and ranked above Purdue, Illinois, and Indiana, not to mention almost the entirety of #MACtion). He turned Cincinnati around in the early 90s and only left because he had to move back East for family reasons. IIRC he has been targeted for P5 jobs before.
He's not in my top 5, or even really my top 10, but I'd take him over the #MACtion flavor-of-the-week that so commonly gets hired into the B1G. Hell he's as successful as Stitt is, and at a much higher level of competition.
Plus I've yet to see Harvard punt with ten men even once.
|1 week 6 days ago||Even though he said it wasn't||
Even though he said it wasn't going to effect the timeline, the fact that he even broached (unprompted) the idea that a hiring would depend on fitting the timing around firing Hoke means he's gone. When your boss's boss starts talking in terms of who will fire you, it's not a good sign for your job security.
|1 week 6 days ago||FWIW the absurd Northwestern||
FWIW the absurd Northwestern Roundtree game was 2012, not 2011 leading to the Sugar Bowl. I only know this because it is one of only two games I have attended since graduation.
|2 weeks 9 hours ago||First, the number one job of||
First, the number one job of a head coach is recruiting. Everything else should be outsourcable to assistants. Hoke has done an undeniably very good job at recruiting both players and two coordinators with exceptional (read: better than Hoke's) resumes; no one denies that. The failure has been in player development, that is on the position coaches more than the HC.
Second, this team has had a terrible turnover margin the last few years, without which we would have been much more respectable. Turnovers are largely random (http://mgoblog.com/diaries/turnovers-and-randomness) so to the extent our failures have been related to turnover margin, that failure should not be held against Hoke, and is likely to revert to the mean in coming years.
And no, of course I don't believe any of this shit. He should be fired. Probably yesterday.

Too bad, I wanted him to stay in and break the full game TD record. But he is the team so I suppose taking him out is right.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Re decommit, I looked it up||
Re decommit, I looked it up and I don't think he has any offers from anyone within sniffing distance of our level. He had interest from some P5 schools but it looks like the only other offers he had were #MACtion. Which a) I think we're safe but b) maybe we need to tone back the excitment.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||If he pans out the way the #2||
If he pans out the way the #2 recruit in the country should though, I doubt he's going to be around for his a fifth season. He'll have already graduated and would be passing up Scrooge McDuck money. Hard to imagine he ever uses the extra eligibility.

Not an employment lawyer or anything, but the agreement looks like boiler-plate getting fired langauge. If DB resigned voluntarily he would have no claims under antidiscrimination laws, for example, that he would have to waive (see § 11 of the agreement).
So in case anyone doubted it, this confirms that Schlissel fired him, and "resign" is a face saving word.

|6 weeks 4 days ago||Not to pile on, but, yeah,||
Not to pile on, but, yeah, this is straight out of the cut-taxes-and-raise-spending school of fiscal managemet. But, some of it I think is right.
Student tickets are outrageous compared with the rest of the country (e.g., UGA last I checked charged $80 for their season tickets, there are several schools in the B1G that charge less for season tickets than we charge for a single game). For everyone else, though, charge what the market will bear. College football is ultimately for the students (I am no longer a student FWIW); no one else has a right to subsidized football. And, yes, we can afford to spend a lot on a coach and non-revenue sports, and yes I would like to see alternate jerseys limited to, perhaps, bowl games.
Some of it seems like needless revenue burning. Who cares if Hoke is the J. and Ira Whatever Football Coach? Mike Bloomgren's title is the "Andrew Luck Director of Offense." You didn't know that because literally no one ever uses these titles. Professorships are endowed, no one complains about that. And, meh, if they keep the bowl clean, I'l live with a Hungry Howies ad in the concourse if it will pay Hoke's buyout.

That looked like a couple thousand people on a few hours notice (after it looked like there would be about eight). I guess people are upset that it dispersed, but that seemed like the biggest succes anyone could imagine.
Although ESPN just said dozens, so either they or Ace's pictures seem off.

They both have Michigan ties and Michigan is a better job objectively, but a lot of people don't like leaving jobs they like for uncertainty. Do we have any indicaiton either of these guys would accept? If not, should we take this to mean DB is out even if both these guys say no?
I am terrified they both turn us down, and Schlissel/regents say "meh, no more Michigan Men (tm) in the market, lets stick with Brandon."
|8 weeks 5 hours ago||I'm not sure if this is the||
I'm not sure if this is the place for this, but since all of the threads here have pretty much collapsed into a series of open threads on the Morris fiasco, I think it's worth noting that ESPN is reporting that Jovan Belcher (Chiefs LB, big player in anti-violence groups who shockingly killed his girlfriend and comitted suicide two years ago) showed signs of CTE.
Partly it's a concerning indictment on football in general, but also its a reminder that THIS IS FUCKING SERIOUS.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||If we were a a competent||
If we were a a competent program, this would get Hoke fired. Leach got fired for not taking a concussion seriously and that wasn't even on TV. But DB strikes me as completely out of touch. And Schlissel doesn't give two shits about athletics as far as I know (generally not a bad thing) and even if he did, it's hard to fire your highest profile employee so early. So who is going to step up here?

Jim Mora, Jr.? Bronco Mendanhall?
Edit: and now for something completely different (on my mind because the WWL keeps pushing Yale/Army for reasons I don't understand): Tim Murphy. He's made Harvard one of the most consistently good programs in FCS, his name popped up for the PSU job, he was sucesful at Chincinnati before moving to Harvard to be closer to his ailing mother.
