"The face of the operation is Briatore (referred to exclusively in the film by his colleagues and angry, chanting detractors as "Flavio"), an anthropomorphic radish who spends most of his time at QPR plotting to fire all of the managers."

It's depressing that a podcast with Mandel and Snyder isn't in like the top 40% of most obnoxious pairings of CFB pundits.

Yeah, Kesler's a Michigan native, but went to OSU and rooted for them originally to be a spiteful dick to his friends, who were M fans. Dude is an asshole.

I dunno, the subject of the spoiler was in tonight's episode. I wouldn't be surprised if that character has their arc play out in season six.

I am genuinely disappointed that GIS "Princess Peach Dad Jeans" does not give the image I was looking for to post here. Rarely does the internet fail me like that.

The remarkable thing I never quite realized before I watched this yesterday was how Sham was basically even with Secretariat for the first minute and then Secretariat puts on the after burners and by the end they can barely keep Sham in the same shot. That horse was ridiculous.

In the show, Stannis wouldn't do it as he's been characterized. Like even ignoring the moral calculus and the whole his brother rebelled against exactly this kind of nonsense things, the one redeeming feature they've given Stannis is that he loves Shireen. AND even ignoring that, he's a stickler for the rule of law and he just created a succession crisis in the case that he wins, because HE HAS NO HEIRS.
This plot is so stupid, which is a bigger sin than the whole "expect the very worst thing to always happen on this show (except to Dany who will get bailed out by dragons)."
|8 weeks 3 days ago||This is relatively simplistic||
This is relatively simplistic view of what happened to the middle class. A lot went into it. Trade deals certainly, changing tax policies, decaying infrastructure, reduced union representation, the rise of the service economy, most things requiring a college degree at the same time tuition costs skyrocketed putting people behind for owning a home etc, rising medical costs, and I think swinging the benefit packages more towards the high end is naturally going to lower the amount available for the average worker. Lots of contributors.
Another problem that is related to the plight of the middle class is the sort of general decline of meritocracy, where a multiple failure like Dave Brandon keeps failing upwards into positions of power. There was always a good ole boy network but it seems to me there's a general lack of accountability if you're powerful enough (politicians and bankers being the obvious examples here).
Agree on short sightedness being a major problem.
As for the political point. I think reducing that to a purely partisan thing is mistaken. I agree more with say, Warren Buffett than Charles Koch, but I don't want either of them to be able to finance entire presidential campaigns. It limits access and what viewpoints politicians hear, and that's a problem and yeah, that subverts democracy and replaces it with plutocracy. Also populism is not strictly left or right wing, it's just populism. It's an appeal to the masses that they're not getting a fair deal because of those other people. The other in question could be business interests (usually lefty), academia (right), or more toxic insinuations (the famous Atwater quote). That's all populism.

Kinda funny that in what, 11 innings they've really only hit one ball hard off of Wagner... and that was tonight's double play.

|8 weeks 5 days ago||She's not getting ahead and||
She's not getting ahead and so is more consistently getting in trouble. Though I agree, she really only made one mistake after Haeger had a great AB. The double was also a superior piece of hitting.
That said, Wagner totally jammed her and has been dominant since she got in on Friday.
|8 weeks 6 days ago||We played pretty poorly and||
We played pretty poorly and barely lost to an extremely good team that's defending their national championship. Loosen up and believe they can win like they did the last two innings and we're in solid shape.
Hopefully Wagner starts and continues to dominate.
|8 weeks 6 days ago||No, it's not. With nobody||
No, it's not. With nobody out if you're not sure it's defensible to stay. She should have seen the SS's back and been sure so it was a mistake. With 1 out you go 100%. With nobody out you can play it a little safe and count on Sweet to put the ball in play.
Also, we should credit the Florida shortstop with a very good play. Susalla hit that ball hard.

|9 weeks 12 hours ago||Nah, there are a bunch but||
Nah, there are a fair number but not all that many. The only other one explicitly mentioned on the show (I think) is Heartsbane, which is the Tarly family sword. Sam's dad thought he was too much of a coward to ever wield it which is why he got sent to the Walll. DVD extras mentioned a couple others.
They're basically family heirlooms that most of the prominent Westerosi families have. Except the Lannisters, who lost theirs because one of Tywin's ancestors went to investigate the Doom and never returned. So they stole Ice and melted it down.

|9 weeks 12 hours ago||Brienne's wandering is about||
Brienne's wandering is about two things, which are related (and a third thing, probably):
1) Just how awful the War of the Five Kings was for the smallfolk
2) Establishing why the Sparrows are suddenly a big movement with enough power to basically seize control of the church and then imprison the Queen and Queen Mother.
and 3, probably) Show us the Hound is still alive and part of the movement towards the Faith. It shouldn't surprise anyone if he's the Faith's champion against Zombie Gregor and finally gets to resolve his whole arc. Or die horribly freeing Cersei, depending on how the Giants did when Martin was writing that section of Winds.
|9 weeks 13 hours ago||They know the ending, as he's||
They know the ending, as he's known the ending for 20 years or so. It's how to get from A -> B that he struggles with. And as not a huge fan of this season + casting news indicating they're going back for a bunch of plots from AFFC/ADWD that they ignored this year like the Greyjoys and the Kingsmoot and Victarion's fleet, the show is as well.
But more importantly, Septon Meribald is getting cast, so that's pretty awesome.

Jon having plot armor in that fight was a little obnoxious as well as anonymous bad ass Wildling women not fighting back because zombie children and her death being foreshadowed super, super hard.
Otherwise easily the best episode of the season, though I still don't think it's anywhere near the quality of the first three seasons.
