M Hoops Leads for Texas Tech Transfer Terrence Shannon Jr
Dude's a stud. Would be a massive pickup.
Guy’s a dude!
"Pending the admissions process" always a dangerous phrase with transfers to Michigan.
6''6" guard averaged 10.4 points on 45/38/78 shooting.

Only for Michigan is that not a throw away phrase.
April 17th, 2022 at 12:16 PM ^
As it fucking should be. We still expect athletes to play school.
Nah, Michigan transfer admissions sucks. They straight up don't take transfer credits.
Both of these things are true. Yes, Michigan emphasizes the academic side. Yes, the departmental regs on transfer credit acceptance are ridiculous, and they honestly are a money grab in many respects.
That said, I hope we get this dude.
Also, I am not contradicting Chuck Norris. He can win Connect Four in three moves.
Those numbers look good but he only attempted 85 3's last year. Not really our answer for outside shooting.
He missed a decent chunk of time with an injury. Texas tech also had a pretty deep rotation so he wasn’t playing 35 mpg. When he was playing he was definitely putting up shots.
He probably offers a solution to a FAR bigger problem last year: lock down perimeter defense. He's apparently very good there (and Texas Tech was the #1 defense last year). Sounds like a perfect three and D wing. Would be a massive get.

I’m not sure perimeter D was a bigger problem, but you may be right! So if he can be the answer outside on both ends that could be a major win
I hope you realize that 85 3PAs would have been 3rd most on last year's Michigan's team. Also, Shannon Jr. took 86 3PAs last season, not 85 (yeah I'm being that kind of stickler).
Shooting over 38% on over 80 attempts in CBB is a very good thing.
It’s not a big Twitter account but The Michigan Insider account retweeted it which leads me to believe it’s true.
April 16th, 2022 at 11:01 PM ^
TMI has plausible deniability if it doesn't happen now. They can say, we just retweeted it.
This would imply someone is leaving correct?
I think so. They're at 13:
'20: Hunter, Terrance, Jace
'21: Moussa, Caleb, Kobe, Frankie, Isaiah, Will
'22: Jett, Tarris, Dug, Gregg
Can they just take Jace off scholarship?
That seems to be a point of contention. I think it depends on the recruiting process. People seem certain Jett cannot be taken off scholarship but no one seems to know about Jace.
April 17th, 2022 at 11:55 AM ^
They can't just take anyone off of their scholarship. It doesn't matter if their name is Howard. But I've never seen a rule that says a player can't voluntarily give up their scholarship and become a walk on. It's happened before at other schools.
I seem to remember Jace was supposed to come in as a walk-on. I know he's on scholarship now because there was one open, but did he start as a walk-on and then get the scholarship, or has he been on scholarship the whole time? If he started as walk-on and then was granted a scholarship, I believe those are year-to-year instead of the guaranteed 4 years like a normal scholarship.
What about Blip?
Would be a tremendous pickup. Sam Vecenie over at The Athletic had an article from a week or so ago ranking the available transfers in the portal for CBB. Shannon Jr. was ranked #8. Here’s a summary from the article about Shannon as a player:
A three-year player at Texas Tech. It’s worth noting that he has said he is considering a return to Texas Tech. Also note: if Shannon declares for the draft, he exhausts his collegiate eligibility. A draft prospect in 2021 who chose to return to school despite real NBA interest, Shannon never took the next step this season. He started a majority of the Red Raiders games and improved his shooting numbers, but he was merely a piece of the Tech puzzle, not a standout, All-Big-12 quality player. Shannon is undeniably the best athlete in the portal, an explosive 6-foot-6 leaper with a great first step. But he’s more of just a solid defender than a great one, as his focus seems to waver at times. He’s gotten better playing off the catch because his shooting has improved, and he can attack in a straight line off the bounce. But we see him more as a starting-quality high-major player as opposed to a star.
Me likey. Get Hunter and/or Moussa back , with Terrance addition, oooo weee lot of potential there to be quite good.
April 16th, 2022 at 11:47 PM ^
Still almost no shooting on the team. Moussa would need to make a huge leap and become a 15 points/10 reb average player to offset the team's terrible shooting.
Hunter will be a knock down shooter and I think Diabate will be serviceable. He has nice form.
Moussa could make a big jump freshman to Sophomore. His biggest issue might have been nervousness.

Do you think he's eating too much chicken? Chickens are a nervous bird.
April 17th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
Says who???
WTF?!?
He was referencing Jim Harbaugh's chicken theory from a few years ago

If Houstan is back. . . I suspect he is improved. Had he canned just a couple more baskets a game last year, we are looking back on the season as a fine one. He became a decent defender through the course of the year, and there's no reason to believe he doesn't up his shooting percentage.
Diabate absolutely does not have nice form. Way too many moving parts makes it hard to maintain consistency.
April 19th, 2022 at 12:45 PM ^
Hopefully Terrance can find some consistency from deep, not sure with his shooting mechanics that will happen, but seemed like he found some rhythm down the stretch that would be nice if he was a bigger threat out there
April 16th, 2022 at 10:22 PM ^
Now this actually makes sense.
April 16th, 2022 at 10:25 PM ^
I’m not sure if anyone has more info but Ant Wright on Twitter seemed to be hinting that the admissions part of this is not going favorably per usual
April 16th, 2022 at 10:36 PM ^
Is he a reliable source?
April 16th, 2022 at 11:11 PM ^
He works for On3 now and has very good sources
If true, classic Michigan self-flagellation.
April 17th, 2022 at 10:06 AM ^
Shannon is in the worst position for a transfer academically. He's been at Texas Tech for 3 years, so he will need a large number of credits to transfer, as he probably hasn't graduated yet. I think it would have to be a situation like Shea Patterson where he has to do a ton of coursework over the summer to make up the difference.
April 17th, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
And by classwork, you mean golf?
April 17th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
He said "course"work.
April 18th, 2022 at 12:27 AM ^
You do your golf practicing on the driving range. The course is where the rubber meets the road. I'm a hacker and even I know that.
So he played golf over the summer, big deal. And let’s not forget it was Gattis who threw Shea under that bus. Gattis has about zero credibility with me.
April 17th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ^
If we won't accept many of his TTU credits, which is likely, perhaps his Michigan credits would transfer to TTU and allow him to graduate there
April 16th, 2022 at 10:28 PM ^
Good thing he is 2nd team all academic in big 12
April 16th, 2022 at 11:45 PM ^
Oh don't get confident, admissions will find a way to mess this up.
This would be a huge get though. Good god let this happen.
April 17th, 2022 at 12:29 AM ^
It's never an admissions issue, its a credits transferring issue, and considering he's not a grad transfer (i don't think), he's likely going to have to give up 1+ years of credits to come here.
