I have a similar but different problem, in that I live in Portland and work until 5 or 6. I was getting excited about the game, waiting for it to come up on btn replay, got a text from a couple of michigan buddies (was careful not to read the texts), then opened btn2go and saw a picture of smiling boilermakers, and was fairly certian we would lose but was hoping to be surprised. Surprised I was.

Brian, you scared the hell out of me with the "don't expect Mitch back" comment, Would have appreciated a "THIS YEAR" qualification.

True, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works officially (e.g. record books and sharing/hanging a banner).

Fate is back in our hands! Doesn't get much more hostile than this environment, and their defense was really impressive (much better than ours). Coming back, then holding on to the lead in a game like this can be a really important experience for this young team!

Yeah, I was looking forward to a "no fly zone" with Turner and Dorsey...both were highly touted and could be considered pretty significant busts (though obviously for different reasons).

Yup. Too many hippies, but absolutely beautiful scenery and Flagstaff Brewing has some great beers, an amazing mushroom swiss burger, and some of the best poutine fries I've ever had.
|11 weeks 1 day ago||I agree. I think Hoke is||
I agree. I think Hoke is generally an honest guy, but he's been known to spout plenty of "white lies." Obviously this is comparing apples and oranges as far as the importance of the situation, but week after week the guy continually denied anything was wrong with the offensive gameplanning/playcalling and chose to blame it on "execution" by the players. Don't know to what extent this is general coach speak (though some coaches can be quite blunt and direct), coaching from DB, or a desire to protect people from media scrutiny.
In any case, it seems he doesn't like to go the "no comment" or direct (e.g., "obviously the playcalling could have been better, we'll review it like we always do," "Brendan violated team/university rules and that's all I can say") route.

Much of this has to do with policy changes related to Title IX, which although well intentioned, is in many ways flawed. I'm a psychologist and have worked at several university counseling centers, and I believe this 2011 change in policy applies to all NCAA schools (I remember we had many long confusing discussions about the implications of this change at my counseling center).
Obviously, we were big time advocates for the rights of sexual assault survivors (and unfortunately I've heard plenty of first hand stories in which the police and/or university completely dropped the ball in not supporting a survivor enough, half-assed investigations, etc), but we weren't thrilled about this change in policy. We were exempt from reporting such abuse due to counselor-patient confidentiality, but most other departments were not. Although generally speaking we want to empower survivors to take action, many feel shocked, scared, confused, and/or not ready to do so. Unfortunately though, if a survivor shares her story with a prof, RA, ect., that person is required to report the assault and the University must investigate, whether or not it's in the survivor's best interest and whether or not she wants it to be reported/investigated.
I'm still not sure what happened between this change in policy in 2011 and the verdict in 2013 (backlog due to re-investigating numerous cases? new evidence? someone spoke up? someone didn't mean to speak up but shared the story with an administrator?), but I thought this bit of info about the policy change might shed some light on the complexity of the situation.

Can't believe Novak threw that water bottle into the trash and didn't recycle. Nice technique on the toss at least.

Is this for real? As much as I'm anti clowniformz and especially messing with the helmet, I don't hate this concept (especially if the iconic Penn St helmet reciprocates).
|14 weeks 5 days ago||Thanks for posting this. I||
Thanks for posting this. I actually missed the last 4 minutes because my btn2go replay kept cutting out. I've been annoyed by their streaming/replay service due to cutting out at each commercial break and having to reload the game, but this time it fully cut off with about 4 minutes left. Tried clearing browsing history and was still messed up. Anyone else have issues like this?
|15 weeks 6 days ago||It's been a few years since||
It's been a few years since I've lived there, but I really tried to avoid Mill Ave as much as possible. Full of bro dawgs and sorostitutes. Rula Bula on Mill is an ok place with some decent Irish Food, but Casey Moore's (just off of Mill, but 10 minute walk to the stadium) was my favorite bar. Lots of outdoor seating, good food, and great hipster watching.
Yucca Tap Room on Southern requires a 7 minute drive/taxi ride, but that was my favorite dive bar. Great shows, shuffleboard, and cool western/rockabilly/honkey tonk scene.
Four Peaks (also a short drive) is a great brewery with great food.

Yuck. To each his own, but I went to grad school there and avoided Mill Ave like the plague. Douche City. Casy Moore's (just off of Mill, a 10 minute walk to the stadium) is the only bar around there that I'd consider cool.

Anyone know how to watch this game? No tv info on espn.com, and mgoblue says it's on fox 1. What the hell is that?
This is a pretty big matchup that would get some viewers...why isn't it on a normal channel?

bingo. This is the crux of the issue most of us (and Brian) have with Borges, not the idea that any given play "should" work.

Can you two be our new OL coach and OC? You can duel (not to the death though) or play RPS to determine who gets which.
But seriously, it's nice to hear you conceding that the coaches are calling dumb plays and suggesting smarter plays.
|22 weeks 3 days ago||Cute idea. It's something||
Cute idea. It's something different, and fits the character of Michigan fans (arrogant, witty, bitter, smart ass), and might get some media attention if it's done well and enough people do it. That media attention might get Brandon's attention, which might then make him have a serious talking-to with Hoke (along the lines of "enough of this defending the playcalling crap. Make sure Borges does what it takes to win us some games, or else...").
I don't like to stir up trouble just for the sake of it (and I'm anti booing in college, unless we're saying "boo-urns"), but I really don't like the lack of accountability among the coaching staff. Hoke saying "I need to do a better job" while defending the playcalling is not being accountable. And no, admitting there's a problem and the playcalling could be better/different is NOT necessarily throwing Borges under the bus.
The problem is more complex than a simple run/pass ratio though. As Mangus and many others have mentioned, even when we do pass we don't spread out our receivers, rarely throw screens or short/quick passes, and rely too often on needless slow-developing unsurprising play action. Wish there was a way to reflect that in the signs.
