|1 week 19 hours ago||Music||
Yeah, I never thought of that comparison until I read this piece. I don't really see a difference between studying music vs. studying football as an academic enterprise, especially with a sport as intricate and complex as football. And there's a great deal of psychology and physiology involved. Some schools have coaching degrees (I tought a sport psych class at JMU for their coaching minor), and I don't see why that couldn't be integrated with the "playing" aspect.
Though most college athletes won't go on to play professionally, such a major could lead to careers in coaching, sports medicine, physical therapy, exercise science, sport psychology, etc.

Haha, I have a PhD (not in comp sci or anything engineering related), and I self destructed in that EECS 100 class. Only class I ever withdrew from, and only class I got less than a B- in (somehow got a C+ the second time around). The year after I took it they added an asterisk next to it in the course guide along the lines of "warning...this is not an 'intro to computer science' course."
My mom (a systems analyst) and friends who were upper level CS majors couldn't believe they started by trying to teach us C++ through assembly language.
It may have had something to do with me being a total stoner back then and often leaving class early to catch thundercats/voltron hour at 4PM, but man, that class was hard.

Now THIS, is great. The main post is way over the top nonsensical and therefore not really funny, imho. Relieved to know this is an attempt at saphire rather than an actual psychotic break taking place on mgoblog.

Yeah, I'm a mandatory reporter, so hopefully Hoke and Funk get canned and I don't have to make that call to CPS.

THIS should be added to the OP and title. HUGE difference between a vague general statement about usual attrition vs. "careers of 3 players are over."

Dave Brandon, don't go away mad.
Dave Brandon, just go away.

People with narcissistic personality traits are not good at admitting mistakes. If they do, they will find a way to make excuses or blame the mistakes on others.
As a clinical psychologist I try really hard to be "off duty" when I'm not at work (and I'm not a big fan of diagnostic labels in the first place), but everything I hear about Brandon is just straight out of the textbook.

It's a statistical term meaning that independent variables have independent rather than overlapping/redundant effects on the dependent variable.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||Why are the numbers all||
Why are the numbers all stripey? Aside from my disdain for messing with the best uniforms in football (especially for a home game), I don't hate these except for the prominently featured weird/ugly stripes.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||Umm, I'm no rocket surgeon,||
Umm, I'm no rocket surgeon, but my educated guess is that the Athletic Department is urging fan attendance (moreso than they might otherwise be) because of the uncharacteristically large number of available seats, which in turn is related to the boycott, the losing record, and the semi-independent disdain for the Athletic Director (and for some folks the coach too).
The boycott seems most directly related to disdain for the AD, though plenty of folks aren't formally boycotting but are tuning out due to apathy or not wanting to spend money to get punched in the dong again. If we just had a losing record with an AD we trusted and/or a coach we still had faith in we wouldn't have a boycott, nor so many empty seats. I'd say there's some shared variance among those factors, but also some degree of orthogonality.

Well, at least I can take comfort in the knowledge that THE_KNOWLEDGE has never been right about anything (maybe in a parallel universe...but not in this one as far as I recall).
|6 weeks 2 days ago||Two things that I would||
Two things that I would absolutely love to locate:
Columbia (the brand) faded army green Michigan long sleeve with white lettering and the seal on the front. Bought around '96 (at Ulrich's?), and haven't seen anything like it since.
The type of shirts they had at Steve and Barry's around '96 that simply had MICHIGAN in white letters on cool faded colors (old school maize, army green, faded red, etc.)
It's been really hard for me to find any clothing that isn't brightly colored/patterned, covered in addidas logos, or completely esoteric (I'm looking at you, MgoStore). I recently got one of those American Aparrel shirts from underground shirts (not bad, but still too yellow) and have a long sleeve blue Champion, but really miss those (relatively) old shirts.

For the first time in my life I don't know if I care anymore, and also for the first time I have zero optimism that we can beat any given team. If this was still Lloyd's team (or even RR) I would be hopeful we could pull off a run; but I'm not, and that's sad. Going camping, and will watch the game tomorrow.

Well uh apparently these 2 and 3 star recruits were able to execute but our 4 stars just haven't executed. We look great in practice but just can't execute. Execute execute execute. Well uh, what else could it possibly be?

Sure. Or Brian, Seth, Ace, Heiko, you, WD...I'll take pretty much any intelligent person who loves Michigan more than his own ego.
|8 weeks 9 hours ago||Yep, ESPN and BTN generally||
Yep, ESPN and BTN generally do a good job getting the replays up fairly quickly. NBA League Pass generally has a bit more lag, and NFL Replay is a huge pain in the ass between their various rules (Sunday games shown after Sunday night football is over, Monday night not shown for 24 hrs, no watching ANY games while MNF is going on) and much longer delay.

I may have been a little buzzed when I wrote that, but I mean it. I'm not big on potatoes, but that meaty hippy hash just has so much awesome in it.
Edit: Oh, I see what you mean now. Guess I was still a bit buzzed when I wrote this and proofread that :)

Don't know about raisin toast, and I prefer my eggs sunny side up, but Fleetwood's meaty hippy hash is hands down the best breakfast in the world. All hashbrowns since I've left Ann Arbor have been meh since I've left Ann Arbor.

I don't feel great about having a tied record though. Maybe Brandon will schedule them again so that we don't go down in history tied with App State?
|11 weeks 6 days ago||A 10 or even 9 win season||
A 10 or even 9 win season (hopefully with a semi-high profile bowl win) would do wonders, and that's totally what I'm hoping for and expecting (though I'm always optimistic). I really do worry about what might happen if this year looks like last year though...
|12 weeks 1 day ago||Ugh.||
I'm skeptical that this is the same guy from the haloscan days, but I haven't found any humor or (especially) wit in this schtick in at least 5 years. Also the consistently inaccurate predictions and running out of silly space-time reasons to explain have been adding up for a while. Don't understand why such a smart audience goes ga-ga for this stuff.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||I live in Portland (OR), and||
I live in Portland (OR), and really miss Two Hearted, as well as some other Bell's offerings, Founders, and Arcadia IPA.
I used to be an IPA snob/junkie--I find the porters, stouts, and barley wines too filling to have more than one, don't like syrupy beers (like browns and bocks and Fat Tire and PBR), and hate the flavor of bananas and/or cloves in my beer (so not into most Belgian beers)--but haven't been impressed by an IPA in quite a while and rarely had anything that could compete with Two Hearted (sorry for the terribly long sentence, I'm about to go to bed and don't feel like fixing it).
Ninkasi Total Domination is pretty much everywhere here, and it's solid but not amazing. I recently tried Three Way from Fort George and that actually really did impress me. This may sound trendy and lame, but I'm becoming obsessed with sours, and there's a bunch of great breweries for that out here.
Some of my favorite things about living in Portland though are: Raineer and Olympia are pretty much the best cheap beers I've ever had (I'd say they're almost similar quality to Labatt and Yuengling lager), and I can get a pint or tall boy of one of those, plus a whiskey (Old Crow is often the rail, and standard pour is a good two shots) for $5-6 total at most bars in town. Pints of the good stuff are rarely over 4 bucks. And I pretty much never have to worry about crappy Special K music anywhere I go because most bars let the bartenders play whatever they want.
