Who is your NFL team and how do you rate their draft?
Browns fan here, happy with the draft overall considering we did not have a 1st or 2nd round pick.
Drafting 3 players from Oklahoma provides much needed depth and hopefully impact players as they develop. York, the kicker from LSU should do very well despite being drafted in round 4, I am glad Berry pulled the trigger when he did. Last year the Browns didn't have a reliable kicker
I rated the Browns draft a B- overall. What say you?
Giants. First round I'm over the moon. Second and 3rd rounds were reaches IMO. Disappointed there. Day 3 was better. B.
Exactly!
As least we get to cheer Go Blue! for both our football teams!
Same here. Couldn't have said it any better. Well said. I will say, we picked players to compete at almost every position besides qb & rb.
I was really hoping the Giants would pick Haskins. I think that could have been a nice fit for the team & for HH
Giants: B+
A for that 1st round. B- for the 2nd and 3rd. They traded back then got beat to cornerbacks they wanted by a trade-up. I do believe they recovered with the later rounds. Love that safety in particular. And Robinson was a reach but still looks like great player for the slot.
The second day for was terrible. I was ok with the G from UNC, since we need depth and I just want the line fixed and sustainable, but the rest was bad. We skipped over LB until the final day and besides the Cincy LB I don't think they did nearly enough to address it.
Third year in a row they draft a slot corner, but this one is so skinny that I can't possibly seeing him contribute in a meaningful way soon, if ever. Obviously Robinson was a massive reach, he would have been there in the 4th/5th, a guy like Pickens or Skyy Moore would have been way better. They addressed positions of need somewhat, but the actual picks seem like they aren't starters or starters for a couple years.
1st round was amazing though, so overall I would agree and say B, but it really lined up to be way better than it actually was.
The Lions!
I rate their draft as very good: Aidan is going to be a very good player in the league, and Jameson, when he heals is going to be a top notch WR. The rest of the rookies are in position of need and are all 'Campbell' type players. When Jameson gets healed, the Lions offense is going to be a sight to see; they really have talent at every position. Defensively, they will be better, too. I'm really excited to see how they do next year, they could be the leagues most improved team.
Talent at every position?!? Perhaps, except at the most important position on the field.
Personally hope they crater one more year to snag one of the sure fire franchise QB’s in next years draft and then go for it.
I think he's serviceable for now.
Goff sure looked a lot better when the Lions added Reynolds and St. Brown started figuring out his routes. Before that he was throwing to Hock and nobody really worth using as an NFL no. 1 or 2 receiver. Let's see how he looks with a full season of a competent set of targets. (Also let's see how Tom Brady does with Trinity Benson and Kalif Raymond as his top receiver targets.)
Yea I think Tom would do just fine with them. Did you see some of those patriots receiving corps?
Goff was on the first train out of LA that the Rams could book him on. He had weapons coming out of his ears and did nothing with them. He's a serviceable piece until a better choice makes itself available.
Rebuilding is a real thing, and the Lions will still be doing it next year.
Yeah, nobody called the Lions a Super Bowl contender for next year. The back seven is shaky to say the least. But I do hope one day the Lions can go to the Super Bowl and have everyone call it "nothing."
I wouldn't call winning a playoff game in 2020 doing nothing. Lions wish they could have that kind of a failed season. Sure he isn't a future HOF type, but put enough talent around him and he can be successful. Kinda like Stafford all of a sudden won a bunch of games when he got a talent upgrade around him.
This is a bad take. Stafford was an elite QB for years in the league. His numbers were crazy. The Lions are an atrocious franchise and the Fords should be blasted off to Mars or wherever with the entire Kardashian/Jenner clan.
Yes, he won when he had a good team. That's how football works. Stafford was a Top 10 QB in the league for most of his career with the Lions, which says a lot about how good he is. Put him with a real franchise and how many rings does he have?
He had several good teams when here.
Just look at the Dallas playoff game where everyone wants to blame the refs - but Stat Padford didn't do Jack for 3 quarters with an excellent offense.
At the tail end of the year, Goff was one of the better QBs in the league. If he gets the right O-Coordinator, I think he'll be more than fine behind one of the better O-lines in the league. I wouldn't be surprised if they re-sign him for a multi-year deal.
Rebuilding is a real thing. It sure is, the Lions have been rebuilding since 1957.
I agree that the Lions need a quarterback. Was disappointed that they did not take a developmental guy in the later rounds.
he literally(1) made his name with a faceless receiving core. David Patten? Troy Brown? Deion Branch was the best of his developmental years...and he never had a 1000 yd season.
Even if they don't crater like we hope, they could still trade up to get a QB. They have the draft capital to do so.
Who are the QBs available next year?
Unless a team like the Chargers, Chiefs, Bills, etc have a season ending injury to their QB which causes them to crater and pick #1 or #2, it’s likely that whatever team is picking #1 or #2 is going to need a QB. And they’re not trading out of the pick if they can take Young or Stroud.
Broncos. Inconsequential. Bonito might be good though
Vikings.... shitty
Kirk Cousins could single-handedly drag a team with 0-17 talent to 8-8-1.
Kirk Cousins could also single-handedly drag a team with 17-0 talent to 8-8-1.
if Jeff Fisher coached a Kirk Cousins team what would happen?
Maybe he will when cousins is out of the league?
0-0-17
I've never been more certain of anything.
I loved the Lions draft but it will ultimately hinge on the Jameson pick.
Lions: B+/A-
I agree, it would be lower but why have spent so much draft capital the last couple years on culture fits that it adds to the grade because they continued that. The culture may start paying dividends 1 year too early as we still need a top pick next year for a QB
Jameson would not be one I'd add to the culture fit.
Ravens - best draft out of any team IMO. Kyle Hamilton was a steal, Tyler Linderbaum is as sure of a pick as you could get in this draft, and Ojabo has all-pro upside. Getting three top-20 players in the top 50 picks is pretty amazing value.
The Hollywood Brown trade is a little perplexing due to our lack of receiver depth, but I think we’ll try to pick someone up from waivers. The 6 picks in the 4th round make me think that those players will be used for trade leverage if they pan out (they usually do with the Ravens).
ravens had a great weekend. jets and eagles stand out too. next tier maybe giants and chiefs. time will tell but first glace those teams added talent and value
As a Bears fan, I'm very jealous of the Ravens' brain trust. So many solid, proven picks and the pipeline between them and UM is genius. Ojabo is a steal at pretty much round and getting MacDonald back plus those early round picks is just an incredible offseason
And don't forget Josh Ross!
Falcons fan checking in.
The Drake London pick was not that good. WR is a need, as is every position for this terrible roster, but Falcons had the pick of the “WR litter” and chose the 4th best one. Not great.
All the defensive players they took on Day 2 were nice picks. Ebiketie had the upside of a double-digit sack edge rusher.
The Desmond Ridder pick is good value based on the overvaluing of QBs by draft analysts, but the roster is not good enough to insert a ‘QB of the future’. So I don’t like using a pick on a QB when the roster needs talent and good players at every position.
Overall grade I’d give a C+/B-.
I think Falcons fans will be pleasantly surprised by Drake London. In case you didn’t watch any USC games last year (not that they were worth watching much), he was basically the entire offense. Defenses knew this, and put a lot of coverage on him - still caught damn near anything that came his way.
I watched a highlight video and an analysis video that spoke on his strengths and weaknesses. To me, he just seems terrible at releasing off the LOS and can't separate down the field with speed + route running technique. If all he's going to be is a jumpball receiver in the NFL, that's not a great use of a 1st round pick. And also he did have some drop problems according to one of the draft summaries I read, but perhaps it's not as pronounced since he was targeted so often. I'm hopeful he turns into a stud, but I have serious doubts he'll be a great X receiver.
I hear you. And as a Lions fan, I REALLY hear you when it comes to first round WR picks! 😂
Atlanta local here. Not a Falcons fan, but I listen to enough 92.9 sports radio in the morning to always have a good idea as to what's going on with them.
I don't know if the Falcons did much of anything about this in free agency, but it seems like outside of a sixth round pick, they did nothing to address their OL which last year was....not great, Bob (I think Jaylen Mayfield gets a ton of crap in the local media, and they completely disregard the fact that he was rookie playing for a bad OL around him.). I probably would've swapped out drafting Ritter for taking another DL or OL instead, but I'm not the GM. But as you said, the Falcons have so many holes all over the roster, even after this draft, that no one should realistically be expecting them to compete for the playoffs next Fall. They have no identity right now. This draft wasn't going to fix all their problems.
But, if they can show progress in some key areas, they set themselves up really nicely for 2023 and beyond. I think they'll be sitting on ~$100 million to play with in FA this time next year.
I'm a Washington insert whatever name you want fan. I give their draft a solid B. Grabbed more picks and still got a good WR. The DT in round 2 was a stretch but not terrible. Getting Howell in the 5th was great and I think they got a good one in that TE in the 5th too.
"Who is your daddy, and what does he do?"
Ha. This actually reminds me of a famous cookbook down here.
Niners, C-/D+
We have more D lineman than we will carry on a 53 but used our first pick.
We take an average running back after taking 2 last year.
We take 2 tackles we want to turn to guards after taking 2 guards last season.
We ignore the holes at safety and center.
But we got 9 new guys and odds are one or two will be decent
Niners fan here as well, and I agree with your take. The Shana-Lynch team failed to address some obvious holes…and we are exiting the draft with no clarity around Deebo and Jimmy. Overall, it was pretty bad.
Steelers. B/B+
Not in love with Pickett but I think he can be a success. Really like both the WR picks, I dont think Pickens' supposed off the field issues will be a big deal. I like the TXAM d-lineman. The LB from Ole Miss is a nice potential pick and could at least be a ST impact. Oladokun is a wild card as another QB but Tomlin seems to like him and it might finally mean Mason Rudolph is gone for good.
Not sure if anyone outside of maybe Pickens (and Pickett if he beats out Mitch) is a first-year contributor, but the only pick I really dislike/don't get is Heyword from MSU. I get the connection with his brother, but I dont think he fills any needs or really is a big contributor in the future. Would've rather seen and OL with a 6th round pick there and hope to strike gold.
Good take.
Hated the Hayward pick. Already have an underutilized FB.
Pickett unlikely to be a top tiered QB, but if he turns out to be Derek Carr, we’ll take it.
Yeah, I just don't really get the Heyward pick. I don't think he is/will be better at FB than Derek Watt, who like you said is underutilized. Muth and Gentry should more than handle TE duties, though I know the TE coach said they want to use him there. If they want to get him on the field as an H-back type guy, that's taking away a better play-making receiving option in Johnson/Claypool/Pickens/Muth and Boykin/Austin. and I dont see Heyward being super duper valuable as a ST guy.
I'm right on with the grade and the comments. I like the WR's, I like the DE and LB, don't get the Heyward pick. I am a lot more critical of the Pickett pick though. In a draft that has no great QB's, you don't burn your 1st round pick on a guy that has a ceiling of serviceable starter. They drafted a QB in the 1st round who has a max upside of Mitch Trubisky in my mind, and he is already on the roster. It stung even more when the Steelers 3rd round pick was made, and Willis was still on the board, and no other QB had been taken.
I like how the team is compiled overall. I think they have a chance to continue having successful seasons. But I don't think there is a QB on the roster that is going to carry the team if they need it. I feel they took Pickett based on the hometown narrative. How many people I have heard say "Almost 30 years ago, the Steelers passed on a local kid named Dan Marino, they don't want to make that mistake again". My response is, well they have passed on approximately 50 Pitt QB's since then, and it hasn't hurt them one bit. My second response is, are you comparing Kenny Pickett to Dan Marino?
