https://www.on3.com/teams/michigan-wolverines/news/where-michigan-signees-land-in-the-updated-on300-rankings/

Summary:
DB Will Johnson - 42 -> 31 and now a 5* to their service
DE Derrick Moore - 167 -> 55 huge jump.
LB Jimmy Rolder - 155 -> 59 another even bigger jump
WR Darrius Clemons - 47 -> 75 mostly due to others jumping him
S Keon Sabb - 102 -> 93 slight jump up
DL Kenneth Grant - 130 -> 101 nice bump up
S - Zeke Berry - 60 -> 152 fairly big dropoff.  Dropped him but said it was a headscrather?!?!?!
TE Colston Loveland - NR -> 244 nice bump up.  At minimum 57 spots.
CB Kody Jones - 270 -> 258 minor bump up
WR Tyler Morris - NR -> 300 makes debut in 300

**

EDGE Kevonte Henry fell from 93 to 175 but isnt listed because they believe he is going elsewhere.
OT Josh Conerly Jr fell from 55 to 145 - no reason why given.

Overall, 8 moved up, and 2 moved down, so very nice movement for Michigan's class.

Anyone know off the top of their head if On3 is included in the 247 Composite yet?

Things seem like they’re trending that way at least. They’ve quickly become pretty popular and credible in the recruiting coverage world.

I believe thewolverine.com moved to on3.

Here's what it says about them.

"On3 is founded by Shannon B. Terry, who has 25+ years experience in sports and entertainment media. Terry previously founded 247Sports (acquired by CBS Sports), Pop Culture Media (acquired by CBS Interactive), and co-founded Rivals.com (acquired by Yahoo!)."

DE Derrick Moore - 167 -> 55 huge jump.   (change of 112)
LB Jimmy Rolder - 155 -> 59 another even bigger jump (change of 96)

This hurt the math half of my brain

WR Darrius Clemons - 47 -> 75 mostly due to others jumping him

This made me chuckle. I get that there's some nuance to... "not doing well" vs. "others improved", but all of this is relative. but I like the michigan homer-ism ... its not us, its them!

Either way - glad this dude signed up. I like that it improves our standing - would be nice to finish with 1-2 late risers.

Tesla - that's pretty common though, and we've seen it plenty in previous years. There is a difference between "we looked at this kid again and made a decision to move him down" and "we liked his rating, but due to other players getting a boost, his ranking dropped." This is the downside to being a top-100ish player early. Even if the experts opinion of you doesn't change, you're bound to drop as other players who weren't previously on the radar start to show out.

Agree on Rolder. Very very good linebacker, but I don't think he is quite athletic enough. Not quite Devon Bush, but who knows what the upgrade in coaching and SnC can do. He does look pretty filled out, but maybe some refocusing of his diet and stuff can help him shave a little time and be faster sideline to sideline. I like him as a prospect and hope he is better than I anticipate.

Not sure the plan for Moore, I know he's a freak, but he looks like a monster 3T to me. Either way, happy to have him in the mix

That was the first thing I thought as well, and I started typing up a response.  Then I decided not to publish it because I didn't want to be that guy.  But I definitely hoped that someone else would be that guy., because it was really bugging me.  And I kept checking back to see if someone else would PLEASE PLEASE be that guy.  Thank you for being that guy.

since rc15 addressed the bad maths...

Not familiar with how on3 does things, but the comparison of the composite to their ranking is interesting. Big gaps include player - composite - on3 rank)

  • OT Zach Rice - 14 composite - 111 on3
  • OT Josh Conerly - 31 - 145
  • DL Travis Shaw - 34 - 247
  • WR Shazz Preston - 37 - 135
  • S Kamari Wilson - 38 - 160
  • OL Will Campbell (NTWL) - 40 - 125

and it's too annoying to type any more with a busted pinky. Who knew i used it so much when typing.

Pardon my old man cynicism but how odd it is that our recruits all have a massive increase in their percieved talent level right after we complete our best year in a long, long time.

Almost like confirmation bias was present or something.

Yeah high school seasons just ended a month and a half ago and all star games just wrapped up. Meaning highlight film has been released and the recruiting sites have had time to view and analyze them, and adjust their rankings accordingly.

While I do believe offer lists and commitment destinations play a factor, I wouldn’t say they sit here and look at which teams had a good season and bump their commits up.

I read the article you pasted.  It says its 2 months old.  And then theres this.

Belleville (Mich.) High linebacker Aaron Alexander (No. 295).

What am I missing?

edit:  I clicked the wrong link.  Neg away. But seriously, whats with that ranking?

My favorite recruiting service is the one who ranks the michigan commits the highest. I also reserve the right to change this according to their player rankings and totally disapprove any site's rankings that do not align with my own.

Obviously, this is good news. I'm not concerned about Darrius Clemons or Zeke Berry dropping, with the former being ranked too high before according to my untrained scouts eye and the latter clearly being a stud who is a slam dunk top 100 prospect. If On3 wants to look foolish regarding Berry, that's their choice. Grant and Rolder are the ones who stand out most to me because we desperately need someone Grant's size to pan out in the near future and because Rolder's tape looks awesome but is limited to him mostly moving downhill.

On3 is a complete joke right now, and they just ranked Devin Brown (OSU QB commit) #1. Their ranking have been laughable since the first ones came out. I don’t doubt you guys got some great recruits, but OSU fans are laughing at how high some of our own recruits are.
