Both of these things are true. Yes, Michigan emphasizes the academic side. Yes, the departmental regs on transfer credit acceptance are ridiculous, and they honestly are a money grab in many respects.

That said, I hope we get this dude.

Also, I am not contradicting Chuck Norris. He can win Connect Four in three moves.

I seem to remember Jace was supposed to come in as a walk-on.  I know he's on scholarship now because there was one open, but did he start as a walk-on and then get the scholarship, or has he been on scholarship the whole time?  If he started as walk-on and then was granted a scholarship, I believe those are year-to-year instead of the guaranteed 4 years like a normal scholarship.

Would be a tremendous pickup. Sam Vecenie over at The Athletic had an article from a week or so ago ranking the available transfers in the portal for CBB. Shannon Jr. was ranked #8. Here’s a summary from the article about Shannon as a player:

A three-year player at Texas Tech. It’s worth noting that he has said he is considering a return to Texas Tech. Also note: if Shannon declares for the draft, he exhausts his collegiate eligibility. A draft prospect in 2021 who chose to return to school despite real NBA interest, Shannon never took the next step this season. He started a majority of the Red Raiders games and improved his shooting numbers, but he was merely a piece of the Tech puzzle, not a standout, All-Big-12 quality player. Shannon is undeniably the best athlete in the portal, an explosive 6-foot-6 leaper with a great first step. But he’s more of just a solid defender than a great one, as his focus seems to waver at times. He’s gotten better playing off the catch because his shooting has improved, and he can attack in a straight line off the bounce. But we see him more as a starting-quality high-major player as opposed to a star.

I’m not sure if anyone has more info but Ant Wright on Twitter seemed to be hinting that the admissions part of this is not going favorably per usual

Shannon is in the worst position for a transfer academically. He's been at Texas Tech for 3 years, so he will need a large number of credits to transfer, as he probably hasn't graduated yet. I think it would have to be a situation like Shea Patterson where he has to do a ton of coursework over the summer to make up the difference.
