roadmanwknr Sources have told me that Akron will hold a press conference tomorrow to announce that Jim Tressel has been hired by the university 2/1/12 8:23 PM |
That was retweeted by Angelique Changelis. anyone heard anything about this?
UPDATE: This Cleveland blog is following the story as well. Apparently it's an administrative role.
UPDATE II: And now it's official.

I thought Akron just fired him!!?!
February 1st, 2012 at 8:50 PM ^
The NCAA decided to allow them to have 3 coaching staffs as it would not give them an unfair advantage.

Akron State, Akron or Ohio State, Ohio. It's all the same thing.
February 1st, 2012 at 10:33 PM ^
The proper name is "The Akron State", only used by the special alums of those fightin' Bobcats
February 1st, 2012 at 11:26 PM ^
Show some respect, please. They're the Golden Bobcats, not the Fighting Bobcats.

According to the twitter.... and If the twitter says it, it has to be true.
February 1st, 2012 at 8:49 PM ^
I feel sorry for Akron.
February 1st, 2012 at 11:35 PM ^
He will build his staff and get his program instituted and in 4 years once he has the foundation set, and his show cause expires, he will step in as head coach and hit the ground running with no transtition. this is disgusting and a HUGE slap in the face to the NCAA. the only good thing is, in a couple years akron will be stealing recruits from Urban.

how are the colts gonna function with out their all star video replay consultant????

February 1st, 2012 at 11:01 PM ^
He certainly did a bang-up job this year, given their record...
February 1st, 2012 at 8:51 PM ^
"hired by the University" is an interesting phrasing. I guess show-cause wouldn't apply if he's not a football coach. His football lectures were epic I hear, maybe he's a professor.
February 1st, 2012 at 11:16 PM ^
I was thinking the exact same thing. Can he even be involved with the football team?
February 1st, 2012 at 8:51 PM ^
Didn't he get hit with a Show Cause? Doesn't any school who hires him have to go through hell and back to justify it?
February 1st, 2012 at 8:54 PM ^
You actually believed that? This is St. Tresel we're talking about here! The NCAA totally owes him one for letting the lid off of the ohio scandal that got him canned, they'll probably chip in a few bucks for his salary cuz he's such a super duper fella!
February 1st, 2012 at 8:54 PM ^
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Majorly confused here.
February 1st, 2012 at 9:00 PM ^
Akron's already in hell, so it's no big deal.

"LOL"

...only applies to coaching positions. My understanding is that he has hired as head of Akron's Compliance department.

Man how many more douchebags can that state hold?

When Dantonio left .

I was drinking soda and spit it out reading the Douchebag thing. I told my wife the other day that PA residents look like the smartest people on earth because they are smack in the middle of two states that have the most Dbags in the country. Dirty Jersey and Ohio.

An alumni of Akron. I cannot wait to win at all costs. All kidding aside I am not too happy with this.
<br> Thank the Lord I love the Univ. of Michigan. So nice to win and conduct business with class.

"alumnus"
February 1st, 2012 at 9:50 PM ^
Or "Alumna"
We don't need to be presumptious.
February 1st, 2012 at 10:15 PM ^
also, we're all pricks for being dicks about stuff like this.
February 1st, 2012 at 10:38 PM ^
Is redundant.
February 1st, 2012 at 9:08 PM ^
This has to be part of the "In The Event Terry Bowden Doesn't Work Out And We're Desperate" plan at Akron, I imagine....
Apparently, Tressel and Akron share "a common interest in innovative programs for student success"
February 1st, 2012 at 9:40 PM ^
There's so much humor possibility in that statement. Just the word "innovative" alone is good for a couple dozen decent jokes. Getting innovative with the rule book is a good start.
February 2nd, 2012 at 12:22 AM ^
The good start line, plus the reference to Ohio people, makes the following mandatory.
I think Tressel has changed the tide on the MAC. Hell people in Akron are starting to enable him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Getting innovative with the rule book is a good start.
February 1st, 2012 at 9:01 PM ^
Can we not create threads about every little rumor that circulates around the web?
February 1st, 2012 at 9:06 PM ^
just...no, I don't want to live in that world
February 1st, 2012 at 11:25 PM ^
I was enjoying all the snarky commentary, then you go and bring reality and morality into play.....boo to you sir
February 1st, 2012 at 9:06 PM ^
Lets get Akron on the schedule ASAP...we are beating this ass clown and i dont care if its "Just" Akron
February 1st, 2012 at 9:18 PM ^
Akron is on the schedule next year.
February 1st, 2012 at 9:24 PM ^
in 2013 (3rd game). Other NC games are CMU, ND, and @UConn. Crossover games are @PSU, Indiana, and osu.
February 1st, 2012 at 9:06 PM ^
He'll probably be in charge of fixing raffles and whatnot. They probably think he can somehow help them when we play them, comical people being comical
February 1st, 2012 at 9:08 PM ^
Here's a quote from what Akron sent the reporter:
We share a common interest in innovative programs for student success.
It can definitely be said that Tressel was "innovative" at providing extra benefits to players. Is that what they mean by "student success?"
February 1st, 2012 at 9:08 PM ^
Is he going to be director of compliance?
February 1st, 2012 at 9:21 PM ^
That department title has just been changed to "Department of Non-Compliance".
For the record, they also considered Department of Duplicity, Department of Dirty Pool, and Department of Baldfaced Illicitness. I think they made the right choice.
February 1st, 2012 at 9:33 PM ^
time to start a Tatoo parlor in Akron!!!
February 1st, 2012 at 9:37 PM ^
It's very apparent that Ohio or Mr. T did not get slapped hard enough with sanctions to really have them learn a lesson. Ohio has a top 5 recruiting class and after a year Tressell will be coaching in colege again. WTF!!!
February 1st, 2012 at 9:43 PM ^
Didn't the NCAA include a five year show cause order when they were smacking Ohio on the wrist which was to have kept old Tress out of coaching college ball for five years?
February 1st, 2012 at 9:48 PM ^
He wouldn't coach, just be an administrator. Not necessarily even part of the football program, technically anyways.
