Welcome to THE Michigan

Welcome to THE Michigan University Ben!! Go Big Blue!!

Shane has also never had a

Shane has also never had a real QB coach.  One of the knocks on him coming out of HS was that his coaching was subpar and the previous staff showed that player development was not something they were capable of doing.  Shane is incredibly talented but hasn't been given the chance to succeed yet.  I'm not saying he's going to be good or even passable but give the kid a chance with a real coach before we write him off.

How is competition ever a bad

How is competition ever a bad thing? Hoke totally whiffed on QB recruiting/development.  Even if Morris or Speight lights the world on fire next year we would have little in the way of depth, and OSU showed how important QB depth can be.  JMFH knows what he is doing, especially with QB's.

Hoke may have fostered

Hoke may have fostered competition but the way he went about doing it obviously was faulty.  We had next to zero player development, especially on offense.  He was a hell of a recruiter but that doesn't win games.  We need an ass-kicker like JMFH in here to really push these kids into maximizing their potential instead of surviving on platitudes and good feelings like Hoke.

I went to Northville and

I went to Northville and still have a couple of good friends that coach there and I've heard the kid is abeast. I would love for him to come here.

Am I the only one who reads all of your posts in Scruffys voice?

This guy has long been one of

This guy has long been one of the more intriguing prospects of this recruiting cycle IMO.  As has been said upthread, this dude is a pure offensive weapon.  Put him in the backfield, out wide, or in the slot.  Between Campbell and Harris stretching the field vertically and Green/Smith/Shallman pounding the snot out of the defense, our general TE silliness, and Norfleet raising general havoc, adding Ballage into the mix to be an all around threat would just be unfair.  Besides Hand, this is far and away the player I want most in this class. He is going to be an absolute STUD at the next level and if it's for Staee I'm going to puke.  Dude is a potential game changer

Behind Hand, Malik, and JuJu

Behind Hand, Malik, and JuJu I think that Ballage might be the player I want most in this class.  He has a very unique skill set and could potentially play outside or in the slot in different packages.  He reminds me of a poor man's Ty Isaac.  If I have one complaint about our offensive skill position recruiting it's that the players we've gotten don't necessarily have a ton of flexibility.  I know I'm just being nitpicky but I love players that can move around the field to give the defense different looks.

Because they're lazy and

Because they're lazy and firing people is easy.  It changes absolutely nothing of course but it makes you LOOK like you're doing something which is all that matters.

This is terrible.  A good

This is terrible.  A good friend of mine from HS played at GVSU and was really close with Cullen.  I never would have guessed he had problems like this, he was always such a great guy.  I pray that this ends well and he gets the help he needs.

I swear to God if these

I swear to God if these fucking umps have to meet up one more time and drag this bullshit game out any further, I am going to run to the nearest living thing and throttle it to death.  It's almost like they're trying to make this game go on forever.

Kids born in 92 can drink. Where does the time go?

I'd reckon your /s meter

I'd reckon your /s meter needs some fine tuning

Defensive stats are pretty

Defensive stats are pretty much worthless IMO.  You really can't quantify a players defensive range or overall defensive abilities like you can with offense.

What's he gonna do with all

What's he gonna do with all these shirts once Urbz flips him?

I can't wait to see a DL of

I can't wait to see a DL of Mone, Pee Wee, Henry/Hurst, and Wormley.  Good luck running against that line.  I'd also love to see us be able to put something together like SC did with their "Rabbit" DL (or whatever they called it with all their speed rushers together).  Mone, Mario, Poggi, TBD (obviously hopefully McDowell or Hand).  God I love the way this staff recruits, the versatility we have on defense is absolutely astounding on all three levels.

Not to feed the RCMB trolls

Not to feed the RCMB trolls but State has no chance of consistently getting top 25 classes.  They're getting the leftovers from the midwest after us and Ohio (and Penn State to some extent) take the players that we want.  Sure some guys like Finley and Reschke fall through the cracks but even those guys aren't class makers but rather solid players that help to make up a good class.  Staee got hot when RR couldn't quite get a grasp on how to take advantage of the Michigan brand name locally and picked up some good players, those days are obviously over now and little bro will be back to mediocrity.  Hopefully we get at least a few good Valenti meltdowns (before he becomes an Ohio fan like the front running twerp that he is)

Wait a second...you're

Wait a second...you're telling me that isn't Mark's happy face? I really can't tell with that man.

He's really quite emotional

He's really quite emotional

I wouldn't have minded Finley

I wouldn't have minded Finley and Reschke.  Terry has a shot to be a player, the rest of their class is actually pretty laughably bad.  Where's the threat?

Oh wow I didn't realize

Oh wow I didn't realize that.  It seems like their name was out there for some top level players but apparently they couldn't close.  Or maybe that's just how their scholly numbers worked out.

He hit a three like a second

He hit a three like a second and a half after the shot clock expired.  He can take his look and shove it, that game should never have gone to OT. Oh and while we're on the subject, he was hammering everybody all night and had carte blanche (plus he raked THJ across the face).  Ohio got every single break last night, Craft and his look can blow me.

Wow, what a riveting

Wow, what a riveting interview with Jordan Cunningham.

"So, I'm supposed to say where I'm going now?"

I know these are kids and they're out of their element but come on, at least be prepared.

It's adorable that you think

It's adorable that you think they actually got punished.  The lack of a bowl game last year was really the only punishment they had.  This is exactly why schools cheat, the rewards are greater than the punishment.

It was like watching a

It was like watching a mid-90's NHL game.  Clutching and grabbing all night with no calls.  Craft is one hell of a defensive player, there is no doubt about that but he got away with a TON of contact and a TON of grabbing last night.

Dawson, Poggi, and McCray,

Dawson, Poggi, and McCray, I'd imagine McCray and Dawson have some sort of ceremony at their school. I know Poggi does in about an hour.

Maybe I'm just a

Maybe I'm just a traditionalist but I like my cheating to at least be somewhat of a secret

So...changing gears a little

So...changing gears a little bit.  Ole Miss is definetely doing something very shady.  You don't have a joke of a program and then reel in 3 of the top 10 players in the country.  Something is not right with this situation.

“He claimed he could hit 17

“He claimed he could hit 17 of 20 3s RIGHT THEN AND THERE, everyone howled and said no way, he just laughed and kept yelling ‘f*** ya’ll f*** ya’ll’ “

Hands down the best part of the story, I'm not sure why but that really made me laugh

How long have you had that

How long have you had that one in the chamber?

Has anybody ever blown you

Has anybody ever blown you away? Every single recruit you basically end up saying that they suck or you're not impressed with them.  I know coaching JV football for a couple years makes you a supreme evaluator of talent but it's odd to me that you would know so much more than every recruiting service.

You could say the same about

You could say the same about Beilein...I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin

He gone.  Sucks, wish we

He gone.  Sucks, wish we actually had some time to find a replacement.  Great parenting Biff, teach those kids to be men of their words.  Or just lie and lie and continue to lie when you're found out and act like you hate recruiting.  What is it about recruiting that makes all these people sneak around and flip flop on decisions.  I really can't think of a real life parellel to anything like it.

I know your gimmick is to be

I know your gimmick is to be salty and say that every recruit we have is basically average at best but besides Shane who had an "underwhelming season"?  It's just kinda funny that you think our class is apparently so awful despite everybody else in the country thinking it's pretty damn good.  Your act is getting pretty stale man.

I was kinda giving you guys

I was kinda giving you guys the benefit of the doubt because from everything I've seen about him, he's not very good.  I guess I just assumed there had to be somebody better than him, glad to hear that there isn't.

I could be wrong but I'm

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they had a good amount of transfers and/or players "leave the team" once Urban took over.

I'm not saying you're wrong

I'm not saying you're wrong because I don't know what kind of OL Urban prefers for his system but from his past two classes and his one 2014 OL commit they are all 300+ lbs save for Evan Lisle, Jacoby Boren (who will probably never see the field), and the aforementioned O'Connor.  He hasn't brought near the numbers or quality of our OL in the past few classes but the ones they have snagged have been pretty damn big.  Regardless, Poggi, Pee Wee, Taco, Hurst, Henry, Mario, Godin, Strobel. Wormley, and our gaggle of big and speedy LB'ers should have their way with them.  I can't wait to see the battles between these teams in the years to come.

You don't recruit every

You don't recruit every player with the expectation of them all seeing the field and being studs. The last few years should have shown you how important depth can be, especially in the trenches on both sides of the ball. We had literally zero depth on the OL and very little on the DL this year, I'd rather not repeat that experience.

Jack Miller at center, gKalis

Jack Miller at center, gKalis and Schofield at guard ( I think Schofield performed better at guard than tackle) and Braden/Mags at the other tackle, probably Braden.

If Dashawn ends up coming

If Dashawn ends up coming here I really hope we play a team with a QB or RB with the same last name just so I could hear the announcers say "Dashawn on the other Hand" after making a tackle

According to the ESPN

According to the ESPN article, OSU is indeed in the mix.

Stories like this just make

Stories like this just make me even more amazed at the quality of recruits that Brady has brought in so far.  Not only are they exceptional athletically but almost to a man, they are great, hardworking, and down to earth people.  It's guys like this that make me proud to call myself a Michigan Man.

Are we sure Blake isn't that

Are we sure Blake isn't that guy? We've only seen him as a true freshman and considering his youth he looked pretty damned good.  I'm pretty firmly against moving Lewis to WR, we already have tools like Hayes/Norfleet who are similar builds/athletically to Lewis who should be able to step in and fill in the slot.  If we move Norfleet to DB and Lewis to WR I will be oficially confused.  I still have all the faith in the world in Hoke and Co. but that move doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

If they already have tats

If they already have tats then what is Urbie gonna pitch them? They look for guys that want tats but lack the necessary means of accruing them.

Not to go all Staee Fan or

Not to go all Staee Fan or anything but the refs in this Lions-Colts game are just awful.  Blatant late hit on Logan missed, missed horse collar on Leshoure, missed defensive holding against CJ.  I'm not one to usually blame the refs but the Lions really don't need any help blowing games.

Because outside of Lewan our

Because outside of Lewan our OL just simply isn't very talented? They're decent at pass protection but it helps to have two super mobile QB's.  Look at the difference between this year and last.  Lewan is Lewan, Schofield is much better at guard, Omameh seemed to regress this year, Barnum and Mealer are mediocre (to be kind).  Those freshman and incoming freshman lineman can't get ready soon enough because we're not getting better as a team until that unit gets its act together.

Our pass blocking is

Our pass blocking is certainly better than our run blocking but it's still not great.  We have two very mobile QB's so defenses are reluctant to just pin their ears back and come at them.  Our line has been dreadful, sorry to break it to you.  When you pair that with poor offensive play calling you start to see why our running game was so pitiful this year.  Borges was the OC last year but we actually had more than 1 servicable OL so our backs had room to run.  This year, no matter who was back there has to dodge Mealer and/or Barnum because they constantly get destroyed off the ball.  This just isn't a very talented group and to be frank, this team in general over acheived this year because of our defense and Denard/Devin being better than the opposition.  if you go outside of those two you will find very little in the way of talent older than sophomores.

Our line has been terrible

Our line has been terrible this year.  This might be the worst run blocking OL I've ever seen wear the winged helmet.  If you can't control the line of scrimmage it takes alot of options away from you.  Obviously Borges did a very poor job today and showed zero creativity and his adjustments killed us in the second half but if you can't get a consistent running game going the entire year that should tell you what you need to know.  Yeah Denard put up some big numbers this year but when was the last time we had a drive where we just shoved the ball down the oppositions throat?  Our entire running attack was "Go be fast Denard and outrun the entire defense".  Whenever a mortal was asked to run the ball there was zero room and Mealer/Barnum were usually two or three yards deep in the backfield.
