Your take: Will Isaac get drafted?

Submitted by Larry Appleton on
The Higdon and Evans highlights made me feel like Isaac has become the forgotten man in the last quarter of the season. But despite not having huge numbers, he no doubt had been a huge contributor this year. But, seeing as he will be leaving us this year, do you think he’ll get drafted in the spring? He has the size and has averaged over 6 yards per carry. I don’t know his 40 time, and that will probably determine his fate. If he is healthy for the bowl, I’m betting Harbaugh gives him extra carries to let him show his skills, especially if the game is in hand (like he did for Rudock). Especially if that happens, I’m thinking Isaac could wind up a late-round pick. What say you?

Like everyone, I think he'll be a UDFA, but a highly sought after one, since there's a lot of upside there.  Wouldn't be surprised if he's an out of nowhere fantasy darling in a couple years.

He's never shown himself possibly to contribute at that level on a consistent basis. I don't like this, but show us the evidence to the contrary. I wish every Wolverine and fan the very very best this season.  Good luck and much love to all including Ty.

Like in the 7th round. I’m guessing he will test well and will pass the eyeball test. If Mike Cox, Thomas Rawls, and Willie Parker can make it, so can Isaac. Has to shed his china doll tendencies though.

I think everyone underestimates him because how he was used. Isaac has pretty good straightline speed. We heard all the talk of throwing it to our running backs before the season but we hardly used them in the passing game. Isaac would be a huge mismatch coming out of the backfield, he is the size of a tight end. He was a great receiver coming out of high school but did we ever once split him outside and get him on a linebacker let alone throw it to him when we did?

From what I recall he seems to attack the proper gaps and has good leg power.  He is pretty good at breaking the first tackle or two.  He tended to gain yards when others in the stable were having trouble.  He doesn't have a juke move but has good straight line speed.  He can catch passes.  Pass blocking question marks.  I think he'll get drafted late, probably 6th or 7th round.

No. NFL RBs are as tough as nails (run backwards/off-balance as you know you are about to get destroyed by a full speed 240 LB to get an extra 1/8 of a yard). Isaac doesn't seem like he has that mentality (can't blame him)*

I'd guess not, but I wouldn't bet against him either. He improved a lot this year. He has the build of an NFL back, the problem is his speed and ability to run through tackles. He runs too upright rather than putting his shoulder down. He can get away with that in college, but not in the NFL. I've been wrong before though, I would have never guessed Ben Gedeon would be a third rounder based on his play here.

No, I don't think Isaac will get drafted, but a team that knows how to use pass-catching running backs would be advised to take a long, hard look at him.

Highly doubt it. He’s a good guy had too many injuries never played a full season but I doubt he ever plays in the nfl

He came in for one play against Wisconsin, with a knee brace on. He tried to plant in order to pass protect, and he fell over while his man ran around him. He then limped off the field, favoring the braced knee. I suspect he’s done for the year, will not be invited to the combine or be drafted, but may work his way onto a practice squad. I am not confident he makes a 53 man roster.

Good late round pick. He has a lot tread left on his wheels because he hasn’t carried the ball a ton. Also has decent hands coming out of the backfield. Must keep his weight down.

I could see him being a late-round flyer.  He's got the physical tools, and if he can impress in camps and the combine I could see a team seeing him as a situational player who has some upside.

No he will not. Big guy who doesn't run like a big guy. Decent speed but nothing special. Had some fumbling issues. If he can get under 4.50 forty at the combine he has a small chance to sneak in at the end of the draft.

His pro day will be a big deal regarding his chances as I doubt he even gets a Combine invite. He'll be seen more as a modern-H (what he always should have been) than a traditional RB. That may help him, tbh. He just has to develop an attitude and toughness that he's yet to show at the college level. I'd bet big on UDFA, if he even wants to play in the NFL. One of his biggest knocks will be a seeming lack of desire, even if unfounded. Appearances matter.

-He has good vision which led to some big plays, but he goes down easily on contact and never fights for extra yards.

-He has ball security issues.

-He is very injury prone.

-If there isn't a gaping hole he is mostly ineffective.

He will more than likely sign as a free agent, but more than likely won't get drafted.

I wasn't saying that other running backs didn't have large holes as well.  I am just stating that if Isaac doesn't have a hole he struggles to make a play out of nothing.  He goes down at first contact a lot.  Higdon and Smith ran hard and rarely get taken down on first contact.  He doesn't seem to have the ability to make something out of nothing.
