Sam Webb Interview Re: Partridge & Michigan's PSU Prep

Ahoy folks,

Been a brutal day, but I thought this brief video had some good tidbits to ease the blow. Two things of note for me:

  1. Partridge got axed for his communications with players regarding the investigation (around 2:28 mark). Been some speculation about deleting files or coordinating with Stalions, but Sam doesn't seem to think so.
  2. Michigan's staff fully expected a TRO and had not repped with Harbaugh's absence factored in (~7:00 mark). Maryland will be a great warm up for the staff's process to get worked out before The Game.

Michel de Montaigne, following the thought of the ancient Greek skeptic Pyrrho (as recorded by Sextus Empiricus), would suggest that we doubt all claims to knowledge, good or bad, suspending judgement in all cases in order to attain to a mental state of "ataraxia" or skeptical tranquility.

Happy Friday.

This is actually why I don't think anyone at Michigan really knew what was going on, apart from Stalions.

The rest of the staff actually don't know what they're dealing with.

Webb's doing his best. And I believe him that the firing was primarily about interfering with players' testimony. That doesn't necessarily preclude the computer thing, but the computer thing is just as likely to be rumor as fact, whereas the tampering almost certainly seems to be what got him canned so quickly.

It sucks for him (and for us, and our recruiting, etc.) that Michigan is in a place where they have to overreact to anything that even smells like cover-up.

But if they don't do this, then that speaks to institutional control. Everything will be met with swift and complete (or over-complete) action in order to exercise the level of control and cooperation that Jim needs to have in order for this not to endanger his future here.

I listen to Sam a lot (not a subscriber to TMI though), and it is almost like a learned skill to glean what is company speak and what is real.  I also think people love to give him shit when he gives his opinion on where something stands in a situation where there is a lot of shit going on - sure, he ended up "wrong," but what he reported at the time is the information he had.  In short, I don't believe that he sits around making shit up, and is never in a hurry to be "first."

He definitely has his soft spots where I'm not even sure he realizes how clear his bias comes across - good example is that he ALWAYS pumps up Detroit area HS players even if they go play for someone other than Michigan and will NEVER say anything bad about them - but once you know that, you can kind of roll your eyes and move on when you hear "One player in the mix at corner you shouldn't sleep on is Jaylen Kelly-Powell."

I get that everyone is pissed right now.  I was before my first two cocktails of the evening.  I wouldn't throw all "insiders" in the same light, and I would suggest you judge them on their intentions - trying to be right (not first) and reporting what they hear compared to throwing shit at the wall for clicks.  That's the whole game - you're trying to get something from them that isn't being generally reported, and it's always going to be a bit of a mixed bag.
