I think you know that the issue here isn't that anyone "had the temerity to report any of this", but rather that it was spun (by those two, among others) in an incredibly destructive and disingenuous manner.

There has been no substantial evidence presented by the B1G, no investigation initiated as far as is known. Levying a penalty in this scenario is the definition of either "rush to judgment", or "kangaroo court"---take your pick.
The penalty was announced while the team was in mid-flight, and released to the media first, rather than the school---and at the eleventh hour. Mature, professional adults "know when to stop winning", especially if they know themselves to be in the right, and don't need to behave in this petty a manner. Really, the whole of their actions here are truly indefensible...
Is it possible that the transfer of the case from Connors, to Kuhnke, then back to Connors ate up so much time Friday night into Saturday morning, that it would have been impossible to read all the briefs, have a hearing, then compose an "air-tight" finding not immediately appealable, all in time for the PSU game?
Also, that in the interest of rendering the decision less subject to appeal, that it makes sense to have an actual hearing with both parties present?

I found this strategy to be very similar to a game against Iowa (?2021) where we basically just played for field position, and to minimize unforced/forced errors.
Have to admit, the wrinkle of having Harbaugh on the sidelines when JJ passes him never occurred to me, but I think the overarching goal was to just salt the game away as safely as possible.

PSU leads the B1G in turnover margin. Their secondary is a relative strength. Their DL was beating our pass protection, limiting JJ's ability to run his checkdowns. On the road, JJ having trouble communicating audibles due to crowd noise. Their QB, apart from a couple of trick plays, was not going to beat our secondary. Conservative was the way to go.....
We could theoretically have grounds to leave if we can demonstrate breach of contract.
I personally found it interesting that Tom Mars letter to B1G specifically mentioned "breach of contract" within the first 3 sentences....not sure if an implied threat, or actually laying the groundwork for this potential eventuality....
The write-up of her decision has to be "iron-clad", otherwise it will just be overturned on appeal on Monday; guessing this is part of the delay....not "lack of influence".
