OT: ND blocks Zaire from transferring to MSU and others
Brian Kelly... still being an ass (a defensible move, but still an ass move).
At least we do not need to worry about a sudden upgrade in MSU's QB position.
To hell with Notre Dame!

Notre Dame doesn't have any obligation to provide Zaire with a scholarship for more than one year. Why should they have any say where he goes after he leaves?
November 30th, 2016 at 3:24 PM ^
four year scholarships now.
November 30th, 2016 at 3:57 PM ^
they *CAN* offer four-year scholarships, but it is by no means wide spread. If I remember correctly, Ohio State was actually pretty high in this regaurd (though I don't know if that was the athletic department as a whole or if it was the football team).

I'm a firm believer that once a player graduates he should not be restricted at all, but this is standard operating procedure for the majority of teams. Restrict them from upcoming opponents who they could give the playbook to.
But I love shitting on ND and Brian Kelly so I'll grab my pitchfork.
November 30th, 2016 at 2:38 PM ^
This is pretty standard. I know it's lame considering that Kelly is "exploring his options" but this doesn't ruffle my feathers that much.

For now.

Oh for fucks sake is Kelly looking at UNC??
November 30th, 2016 at 3:18 PM ^
Kelly's big complaint about Notre Dame is that their academic standards are too high to succeed (pay no attention to Palo Alto!). While UNC in general has high academic standards, they have a reputation of being situationally flexible when it comes to student athletes.

I know we don't need him because we have a gazillion QBs but maybe it's my wanting of a quarterback who can actually pick up yards with his legs. I'm the only one wanting this so don't mind me because i miss the Denard years.

Guy: "I'm leaving you. I don't want to be with you anymore. I'm not happy."
Girl: "That's fine. You can leave me and I'll allow you to date Jessica, Susan and Vicky. You may not date Jennifer, Samantha or Vanessa however."
Guy: "Shit. I really wanted to date Jennifer. Oh well, I guess I'll stay here with you then."
I mean how fucked up is it that the party being left can determine where the unhappy party that's leaving can go?

depending on the industry you work in and the company, you might have to sign a 'non-compete agreement'.

after a recent doctors visit, I'd cross Jessica off that list too.
Just FYI

Tech companies in Silicon Valley recently were fined hundreds of millions of dollars for restraining movement of employees from one to another. They put immense resources into training those people and exposed them to proprietary trade secrets, and that's still no justification for telling people where they can and can't go. The only such restraints I'm in favor of apply to the revolving door of politicians/lobbyists, and this isn't that.

Lucky for Malik.

I'm very conflicted on this issue. On one hand, I feel like they should be free to transfer wherever. But also, the competitive aspect of it is real. Max Bielfeldt was calling out our plays on the court when we played Indiana last year...

Eh. Michigan runs a super-large varied playbook and it's unlikely that an unfamiliar player will be able to recognize the plays instantly. Michigan never just runs a generic pick and roll. There is always action that sets it up and there are options off the action. Bielfeldt could figure it out ASAP. Spike likely will be able to also.

When they split time against Texas anytime Kizer was on the sideline he was still 100% engaged in the game. Listening in sideline huddles, talking to coaches, cheering on players, talking to players, cheering on Zaire.
When Kizer got the job in week 2 I saw none of that from Zaire. He would just pout on the sideline, and generally look annoyed.
Not an excuse for this ridiculous practice though, a player should be able to go wherever the hell he wants.

Wait, if he is set to graduate in December, how can ND block the transfer? I thought that was only for those yet to graduate.

Is a new qb really going to make MSU that much better. They still need to replace tons on their OL and DL for next year.
November 30th, 2016 at 5:13 PM ^
I may be in the minority here, but I think this is perfectly reasonable. While Brian Kelly is a dick, I think what he's doing here is fine. I think that if a team is on your schedule for any of the years that he could be eligible at the new school, then it is fine to say he can't transfer there. For this specific example MSU is on ND's schedule, so I think it is fine that he doesn't want him going there.

Zaire had earlier told ESPN that he wasn't allowed to transfer to schools on Notre Dame's upcoming schedule, with the exception of North Carolina."
