You can only have 105 players in fall camp I believe. So, it's not uncommon where some walk ons are left out of fall camp and then invited back once the season starts. Maybe that?

Yep. You have to really look hard at a situation to tell whether or not a player is highly coveted. Offers isn't a good enough metric

What's funny is that Brian has the exact same take as Bluey/Maizen/ShawnL. But he's stayed quiet about it for a while so everyone forgot.

Yes, the 2012 class was the first one to use the Common App. Applications skyrocketed then and have been increasing since.

The reason is because our userbase is full of a lot of people from Mgoblog who didn’t previously have reddit accounts. So we have lots of people with low stars due to not having karma/tenure. We got a HUGE spike in people participating once we started posting updates on here. Weirdly enough, we don’t get a ton of participation from Michigan fans who were already reddit users.

Your assumption was correct! I think we just fixed it.

By the way, as of now we have the third most territories at behind Nebraska and Florida.

Realistically, there isn't much incentive for anyone to flip

06/05/2018 - 7:11pm Woah, it be white

Woah, it be white

05/24/2018 - 12:57pm Realistically Clemson is too

Realistically Clemson is too small to hurt us at this point. If they attacked us, we could theoretically wipe them in one turn. We're about 4-5 times larger in terms of army size.

05/24/2018 - 9:32am Except PFT isn't satirizing

Except PFT isn't satirizing Barstool. He's satirizing mainstream sports journalists and the way your Dad talks about sports (both online and in real life).

This is the logo you should press the corresponding button for if it says attack Ohio.

Everything corresponds to the names of the "territories". Territitories are named after the team that initially occupied it.

05/23/2018 - 10:04am The game admins haven't told

The game admins haven't told us. We THINK that Team Chaos is just dead forever and that concept is just removed from the game.

The big image is weirdly compacted. So right click on it and press "open image in new tab" to view it full size

05/18/2018 - 11:01am We only had 5 rogues attack

We only had 5 rogues attack Clemson and just got lucky. They understand. They also had 9 rogues attack Rutgers

05/16/2018 - 3:29pm So the attack/defend buttons

So the attack/defend buttons correspond to the territories, not which school currently holds the territory. So if you click the UConn button, you will be attacking/defending UConn for that turn. You'd only see an "OSU" button to attack if we bordered their initial home territory (Columbus and the surrounding area).

05/15/2018 - 11:04am This is likely true. The

This is likely true. The admins have indicated there will be some change in mechanics late game to facilitate a winner, but idk how it will go

05/15/2018 - 11:03am Nah. OSU also posts some

Nah. OSU also posts some public instructions that we see and react too. But that doesn't compose the entirety of what both teams are doing.

05/15/2018 - 10:54am Tbh, what really happened is

Tbh, what really happened is that in the beginning of the game we were a little weaker than OSU so we were just randomly swapping MidWest territories for a while. We decided that was pointless so we left to consolidate a better position in the northeast. We grew our army and started hammering through the smaller schools. But unfortunately, no one else has really bothered to push OSU so they've been able to follow us without too much effort. And then we got nerfed right as our confrontation was about start. So now our armies are about equal size. So we're in position to just randomly flip territories at this point. And OSU will slowly lose their territories in the midwest if they are focused on us.

Realistically we will need to help to really eliminate OSU at this point, but we have some ideas to get ourself in a better position.

05/11/2018 - 12:45pm Yeah it would. At the time we

Yeah it would. At the time we left for the northeast we were a lot weaker though. Chaos also started in Alaska so they were very far. Hopefully OSU takes care of it.

05/11/2018 - 12:44pm We scrape all the numbers

We scrape all the numbers from the website every day, but our numbers are set up so they will only display active participants. The Leaderboard shows total people who have registered.

05/11/2018 - 12:43pm I think it's mostly just

I think it's mostly just because Nebraska and Florida fans got good participation from frequent Reddit users from the jump. We didn't really, and we have so few stars/user because we have recruited a ton of people from mgoblog.

I've thought about trying to query reddit for everyone with Michigan flair and PMing them.

05/11/2018 - 12:12pm Chaos is every single team

Chaos is every single team that has already been eliminated, so we definitely don't. They're the third most powerful team right now (we are #4).

05/11/2018 - 11:44am We ditched it to make a break

We ditched it to make a break for the NorthEast, because it's a huge geographic advantage to own it. We plan to march back to Michigan later and obliterate OSU.

Also, I got a request about making a guide for how to increase your stars. I didn't have time to do that for this post, but I'll try to write up a quick google doc at some point today and post it in the comments. I'll also include it in any posts going forward.

05/10/2018 - 2:50pm Yeah, we've generally tried

Yeah, we've generally tried to PM users on reddit if their turns aren't counting.

05/10/2018 - 1:34pm Yeah, the game has had some

Yeah, the game has had some weird issues with updating stars properly. Usually if you press the "update rating" button a couple times and then refresh the page a couple times, it'll properly set. Did you explore all the links? Clinking on all 21 should get you 5 stars in that category.

05/10/2018 - 9:49am There's no hidden

There's no hidden selectivity, but when I graduated in 2016 there were some issues with the demand for CS classes outstripping the number of classes/teachers they had. Particularly in 280/281 (Object Oriented Programming and Algorithms classes). Also, it can be tough to get the classes you want once you are an upperclassmen. Classes like Game development only have 100 spots or so, but a much higher demand than that. Basically, you have to be diligent in being ready to grab your classes the second you are able and also having backup options already backpacked and planned out.

Also, as others have said here, CSE is hard. Basically every important class you will take is curved to a 2.8. However, the real time sink is the projects. Generally, you will get something like 21 days to do a project, and you'll have something like 3 submits a day to see how good you did. Make sure to start projects basically IMMEDIATELY so you can maximize submits and take your time. Getting in the habit of starting projects early is the #1 key for being successful in CSE at Michigan and that's generally what separated a lot of the top kids from the bottom kids.

I would generally just work on my projects as I did other stuff that didn't need full attention. If I was bumming around watching TV, I would have my laptop open working on my project.

Also good news, I have generally found other students to be very helpful. Most classes have a forum where students are allowed to discuss the problems of the projects and give hints to other students as to what the answers are.

Also: This sheet is a great resource.

https://cse.umich.edu/eecs/undergraduate/computer-science/17_18_cs_eng…

Gives you an example of what a normal schedule looks like, gives you all the prereqs for classes, AND provides a list of how tough of a workload all the CS classes are. Generally you never want more than two project based CS classes in a semester. A hard one (like EECS 482 Operating Systems) and an easy one (like EECS 484 Databases).

05/09/2018 - 6:00pm Realistically, I don't see

Realistically, I don't see how it ends unless the mods change the parameters/rules in the endgame.

05/09/2018 - 5:59pm It has actually gotten a lot

It has actually gotten a lot harder to take New England since we first set out on this goal. VT, Clemson and PSU are all fairly decent sized forces that are fighting with us for land. We are the largest though by far, so if we can consolidate we'll be in solid shape.

05/07/2018 - 12:22pm Basically. What you pick to

Basically. What you pick to attack/defend is a territory. Each FBS team was given their own territory at start. So if you picked to attack ND, you would be attacking ND’s original territory (which may or may not be currently owned by Notre Dame). If you picked to defend OSU, you’d be defending the Columbus territory that we currently own. I’ll edit in some instructions into the post once I get past to my desk. :)

I'm a frequent r/CFB user but have never used discord before. How do I join the discord? Just using the link doesn't seem to work. I'd like to be able to just take some instructions on the strategy to help out. May/may not actually participate in the strategy.

05/02/2018 - 9:28am I graduated with a CS degree

I graduated with a CS degree from the Engineering school in 2016. Lived in Markley as a freshman. North Quad as a sophomore. You definitely want to put your preference as central campus. As an engineer, you have a bunch of math/science classes you need to take that are all on central and if you're computer science, 280/281 are both offered on central as well. Looking back at my schedule, over 50-100% of my classes each semester were on central campus through my first 2 years. And then as an upperclassmen, most classes were on North.

The bus ride really isn't that bad either.

As far as dorm preference, just avoid Markley and Oxford (unless you want to be in a nearby frat) on central and prefer Bursley on north.

??? That seems like a bit of an overestimate. I got my appendix taken out in high school and the next day I was 100% fine except for some stomach pain if I flexed a certain way. And the pain was probably gone in about a week or two.

04/11/2018 - 3:43pm I think people who have them

I think people who have them that high are just looking at their recruiting class ranking on the surface.

They don't know the players individually and that many of them are high upside projects who are unlikely to contribute immediately

03/22/2018 - 12:34am I liked Devin Gardner wearing

I liked Devin Gardner wearing 98. I think it’d be a cool tradition if the best player on a team could be rewarded with wearing 98 or something like that. You just can’t go overboard where have 20 different players on the team wearing Legends jerseys...

03/21/2018 - 3:01pm I think there is truth to

I think there is truth to both here. I think generally, people are only taking good 3 pointers. Generally, when a player closes out well, it results in no shot instead of a heavily contested shot, and the situations where a player is taking a heavily guarded 3 pointer are pretty rare.

So, in general the KenPom theory is true but there can be some exceptions depending on what happens in individual games.

03/04/2018 - 1:44am I don't believe he called for

I don't believe he called for him to be fired, but he had begun to believe that Michigan was just gonna be a perrenial bubble team under Beilein. I would guess it likely came after the loss to Illinois last year.

I think critiques of Beilein's performance were valid. Maybe he was unlucky with injuries, but the failures of roster management still made us worse than we should have been during those two years. It's easy to say everything was gonna work out now after D Walt randomly turned into a NPOY level player and this team is turning into an elite unit, but there was some real bleakness that was systemically concerning.

But Beilein made significant philosophical shifts in the way he coaches/prioritizes defense and it is really paying off. If anything...the message board goons were right.
