Ok, I like making fun of McElwain as much as anyone...but he didn't deserve this. On the other hand, anyone who hires and sticks with Coach Nuss across multiple seasons has SEVERE talent evaluation issues...

I liked going up against his teams.  (I will also miss the shark jokes.)

This is an interesting one.  He clearly wasn't getting it done this year, but they had done decently the other two years, and he had a huge, Weisian contract.  I'm surprised they pulled the trigger.

Kind of wild how Florida, Nebraska, and Michigan we’re searching for coaches at the same time 3 years ago, and Harbaugh might be the only one that survives until next season.

I’m sure he’ll always wonder what if Will Grier has never been caught with PEDs and transferred. QB play gets less focus in college coaching decisions but it certainly is a huge factor. With that said he had them on a downward trajectory

So I was recently in Salt Lake City, and my Uber driver was from Nebraska and was a big Huskers fan.  I asked him about Scott Frost and Nebraska.  He was pretty emphatic it's not happening.  One voice, and there's no way to know what he knows vs. what he thinks.  But still ... a rapid Huskers fan adamant that Frost was not coming to Lincoln.

Frost has to look at the current trends in college football and wonder if Nebraska is a place where he can get the talent to compete at the level that those-with-a-memory expect for Nebraska.  I'm skeptical ... I think we're entering a time where the window of opportunity is rapidly closing, and those who haven't rebuilt will find they can't.  (This is why I think Harbaugh's hire was so critical -- another 4 year down-cycle could have been disasterous for Michigan.)

UF provides a better opportunity to field talent than does Lincoln, NE.  The flip side is UF is a freakin' pressure cooker of expectations.  If you're an up-and-coming coach and want to step onto the big stage, UF is one of the bigger stages.  Nebraska, sadly, is no longer such a stage.

If he can win at UCF, he can win at Nebraska. Why would he risk going to a program that might fire you in three years that include two division titles when he can go to his alma mater and be a hero?

Pelini was a completely different situation. First of all, they gave him 7 seasons. Secondly, a big part of him getting fired had to do with his off the field conduct.

I quote:

"Our crowd. What a bunch of fucking fair-weather fucking—they can all kiss my ass out the fucking door. 'Cause the day is fucking coming now. We'll see what they can do when I'm fucking gone. I'm so fucking pissed."

Maybe, but I'm not so sure ... Florida is a talent-rich state, and even though UCF can't compete with Miami, UF, FSU, and the SEC schools that come knocking, they can get pretty good players to stay near home.  There's not much talent in Nebraska, and getting good players to leave home and go there has to be hard.  Tom Osborne did it, but he left twenty years ago.

Your point about UF being trigger-happy on firing coaches vs. Nebraska, where Frost might be hailed as a hero has some merit.  What I'm not sure of is whether Nebraska has yet come to realize they can't -- and won't -- be competing with the Alabamas of the world.  Nebraska Football is like Minnesota football ... good history, good fans, but just a tough place to get enough good talent to compete.  8-4 / 9-3 seasons with the occasional 10-2?  Sure. 12-0 and playoff bound?  That's hard to envision.

We'll see ... you may be right and Frost goes to Nebraska.  But if he's a coach that dreams of playing on the big stage, he'll avoid Nebraska.

I've been on the Nebraska message boards and they're praying to their Corn Gods for Frost. They may not land him--Frost may just prefer UF to the pressure of being a savior, unlike our own savior. Sounds to me like Uber driver was just being a contrarian--I mean, look at the mugs we've got on this board, calling for Harbaugh to be fired last week. Or Uber driver was just busting your chops.

I too have not seen one, NOT ONE, person calling for Harbaugh to be fired. Please back that up with someone specifically saying it or quit saying it. You've done it multiple times now. And you're not the only one but I'm on here every day and read every comment eventually. So who are you referring to who said that outside of being sarcastic?

No one had to balls to say he should be fired, but there was plenty of bullshit being said. People called him over rated, all hype, overpaid (constant complaining about his 9m dollar salary which he doesnt even make 9m) and plenty of people said he has been a failure. I have seen him compared to Hoke a few times on here as well, point is people have been talking mad shit.

So who is this year's rock star coaching candidate, the guy everyone wants?  Is it Frost?  Seems like slim pickings.

Thank goodness Jed York is as dumb as he is to let us hire Jim Harbaugh.

to not even get any legit death threats? I mean, when Florida Man doesn't even think you're worth the time to threaten… probably time to go.

Note to self on invention idea: app that auto-generates death threats so you can't be fired for cause
