Now Michigan really finds out all it needs to know about its athletic director.  What is the process to hire a new coach and who will it be?

BTN just announced it.  Studio team acted as if players threw him under the bus by giving up on the season.  There may be something to that.  I'm just glad this chapter is over.

Disagree.  He could recruit; it's just that too many of the players he recruited were NBA prospects who were so eager to get to the pros that they never became good college players.  (Beilein had similar problems (Iggy, Wilson, Poole), but a lower proportion of them).

I hope he is able to find success elsewhere.  It felt kind of bad to keep piling on a guy who loves the school but is not a good fit for what the program needs.  But it also shows the lack of confidence in Warde that we all felt the need to keep making the case.

Now we can all move on.

I take absolutely no joy in this but I completely understand and agree with it.  It was the right thing to do.  I loved Juwan Howard the player but it was apparent that he was in over his head as head coach as Beilein's guys and culture slowly left the program.

It’s a shame it came to this. He did really well his first couple seasons but couldn’t continue. Even so, he’s still a Michigan legend and always will be.

Like so many others in 2019, I was excited by the idea of Howard finding success here and was so hopeful that it was going to come to fruition after the E8 run. While I will always cherish the positives of that B10 championship season (and appreciate all of those involved in bringing it to us), unfortunately it appears that was nothing more than fools gold. The JH era ended up being very similar to the Hoke era, overachieved early with mostly other peoples players and massively struggled once it was time to establish a culture of your own. I wish Juwan nothing but the best and am glad this didn't fester any longer to further deteriorate his legacy with UM. Onwards to finding our next coach, give Jay Wright a call (I 99.999% expect he'll say no, but you never know) as well as TJ Otzelberger, Darian DeVries, Greg McDermott, Pat Kelsey, even Fred Hoiberg (NU has gotten better year over year). Perhaps Coach B wants to restore his program once again. If you want to get sleezy, I'm sure that the Sean Miller, Will Wade, and even Rick Pitino would be excited at another opportunity to lead a major P5 program (not advocating for it, just pointing it out). There are plenty of options as of present, so hopefully Warde has already started making some calls. To the future!

Michigan did the right thing.  Howard’s most successful season was his first full season, when he inherited John Beilein’s fantastically coached team.  It was all downhill for Howard after that.  The fact that Howard got suspended twice for throwing a punch at either a coach or an employee at Michigan certainly didnt help his cause.

Michigan’s basketball team will never reach the popularity of the football team.  Nevertheless, Michigan fans expect the basketball team to make the Big Dance every year.  Any year UM doesnt make the NCAA tournament is seen as a big failure.

Harbaugh implied Ryan Day was born on third base?  Hate to write it, but Howard also started on third...and got picked off.

Juwan's second year team was his best, and the only Beilien starters on that team were Livers and Eli Brooks (who was a no one under Belien). Contributors also included Brandon Johns and Austin Davis (who, see the same for Eli Brooks).

That second year team was all Juwan. It's revisionist to say otherwise.

Why not look at the last coach in Michigan to win an NCAA Championship?  Ferris State's Andy Bronkema.  I thought he might be a decent candidate when Dan Gilbert stole away our precious John Beilein.

Is there something about the guy that people don't like?

While we were happy mostly happy with the Howard hire when it first happened, let’s not forget other the uninspiring names he was considering. Moore was a layup - we all have high hopes but that seemed predetermined. The baseball coach didn’t have anyone jumping for joy. A coaching search with warde is far from a sure thing

Hate that it had to end this way, but at this point you don't really have a choice. Just too much went against Juwan on this, and unfortunately too much of it was self-inflicted.

Thanks for your efforts, Juwan. Thank you for a really fun 2020 - 2021 season. In the right circumstances, with the right players who have the right attitude, I think this shit does work. But this had to happen.

Not going to dance on his grave. This has got to be hard enough for him to swallow. Just wish him the best, and now we just need to focus on getting the best possible candidate in here.

I hated this for JH, but he was in over his head here. I hope he finds his groove/vibe. He's a Michigan legend.

The part that makes me bitter is that the admin allowed the Sanderson situation to play out the way it did and they end up firing JH anyway.

I wonder if "Warde" now meets the stringent standards of the many MGoAthleticsAdministrators in here, constantly fucking whining when they don't know shit about what's going on. Shut up and let things play out.

Alex’s article sums it up. Things went on a straight trajectory downward after the contract extension. Number 1 seed, Elite 8, opening the season #4… to last in the Big Ten and the worst season since Dave Strack. Beilein left the cupboard stocked, now look at it. Whoever takes over certainly has their work cut out for them.

Not happy about the way everything played out, but at least now I can rest assured that all the people who told me “Warde knows what he’s doing, he’s the greatest AD ever, Howard had a great 2020 he’ll turn it around like Harbaugh did” ultimately did not know jack shit.

I want Michigan to return to glory as much as anyone else, but I really don’t know why I should have any confidence that Warde knows how to make a home run hire. What’s the path of least resistance here? Because that’s what Warde’s going to do. I hate seeing Michigan lose, but what I hate even more is how apathetic I feel about the basketball team. I watched about 3 games this year.
