JJ Continues to Lead Nation in Completion Percentage; Blake No. 1 in TDs, No. 2 in Rushing
For the past several weeks, JJ McCarthy has led the nation in completion percentage, and after yesterday's 17-for-24 game, he continues to be No. 1, at 77.1 percent. He's also No. 10 in QBR.
With his two TDs yesterday, Blake Corum is back up to No. 1 in rushing touchdowns, with 13 on the season. He's also up to No. 2 in rushing yardage with 901 yards, trailing only future opponent Chase Brown of Illinois, who has 1,059.
Get some rest this week and then keep it up, fellas.

It is amazing having two of the best players in the country at these two critical positions. I love me some Michigan football.
October 16th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
Taking nothing away from Blake and JJ, what is amazing is the great offensive line play. My wife could have run through some of those holes.
October 16th, 2022 at 11:22 AM ^
That’s what he said

Always be careful using wife and holes in a post on the internet
October 16th, 2022 at 1:13 PM ^
I actually thought that before pressing Save. But then I figured...nah...nobody is going say anything and rebuked my prurient mind. Yet again I underestimated the minds that lurk on the Internet.
October 16th, 2022 at 2:22 PM ^
It's normally her holes getting ran through
October 16th, 2022 at 11:54 AM ^
And not to take away from the receivers because theyre all reliable, but if we had a Marvin Harrison Jr on this team I think we'd be the best team in the nation.
Can we get Jason Avant off the sideline and back in the game?
Would love to have DPJ and Nico Collins on this team too :(

’If only we had three first round wide receivers - we would be unbeatable like ohio state’
But, 42-27
October 16th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
But this team already has great receivers. Michigan just doesn't throw the ball down the field much and when they do JJ has been inaccurate in the last couple games. It's not on the receivers when the ball is 2 yards too far ahead of them on a go route.
October 16th, 2022 at 12:59 PM ^
Exactly. If OSU and Michigan swapped all their WRs, Michigan still doesn't put up much more receiving numbers. Harbaugh wants a team built on running the ball, controlling the clock, and punishing teams. Michigans receivers would have much gaudier numbers if they were to go to schools with more of a modern passing offense.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:56 PM ^
This is a good point. Deep ball “accuracy” can be how well a receiver can “fly ball” it and time running under it. That pass by Clifford was nice but the play was made by the receiver. It hit his hands because he got where he knew the ball was going to hit. It’s not all on JJ unless those balls really were just 1-2 yards past those receivers 100% max sprint idk.
edit: and I’d much rather miss long with no chance of a pick. Just sayin’
October 16th, 2022 at 1:36 PM ^
Obviously we can beat OSU, but at the same time they have an improved defense from last year and we may not be able to just run the ball at will like last year. And we struggled with guys getting open against Georgia.
October 16th, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
"We may not...."
Wow..what insight.
This time last year it was about the great OSU and how little chance UM had...
42-27
They may be better this year...and UM may be better too.
Too soon to worry about it...lots of football to be played and UM just played its most complete game this year
October 16th, 2022 at 6:27 PM ^
Even worse… it looks like it might’ve been 4/5 first round WRs on the same team. Makes last year look even more impressive, even if they can’t fix a dog-shit line.

My cool story bro for the day. I took my daughter to a birthday party after the Michigan game at a bouncy house establishment in Raleigh. I was wearing my Michigan jersey and a younger guy noticed it and we started chatting. He is from Birmingham, AL and is good friends with Nico Collins and his family. He was a WR in high school and he played for a different HS than Nico. He and Nico are about the same age and played HS ball around the same time, so they played against each other. He worked for the bouncy house place and he was busy so we only talked for like a minute so unfortunately I didn't get to ask many questions.
I told him every Michigan fan was bummed about the COVID year debacle and how Nico understandably opted out. We were all stoked for a huge season from him. Anyway, it was pretty cool.

3. Donovan Edwards is a Swiss Army knife. Was nice to see his vision in the run game start to mature this past game, but he was already one of the best receiving RBs to come through CFB in the past decade.
Not hyperbole… Edwards is up there with the likes of Christian Mccaffrey, Saquon Barkley and Reggie Bush as a pass receiving RB. He could easily play as a slot WR in the NFL.
Most importantly, our O-line makes all this go and makes it all so much easier for the entirety of the team to play complimentary football.
Go Blue!

Some great perspective there on JJ. It seems like he is sometimes held to an unreasonable standard. Guy is doing as well as anyone could have expected going into the year. The other hidden value is how much he helps the run, even when he’s not running. That huge run by Edwards yesterday was helped when #4 flexed out to address JJ, thereby leaving an extra hole. That stuff is huge as well, and almost impossible to quantify in the stats. Hoping for a true coming out party against MSU.
October 16th, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
Agree, you have to honor the threat of JJ. He’s not sensed but can easily burn teams if they chose not to. Puts an entirely new dimension of stress of them.
October 16th, 2022 at 10:56 AM ^
Agreed, JJ besides an unlucky INT and ill advised throw that he ended up completing, JJ was great yesterday. He did what he had to do. It wasn't flashy, but it didn't need to be against a good secondary when were killing it on the ground
October 16th, 2022 at 4:22 PM ^
JJ has incredible talent both with the arm and the ability to run.
The deep out on the roll out is a play very few QBs are going to make. That is so hard to defense. He chose that over the short route because he is confident he has that play. His running changed the complexion of the game.
I thought this was his worst game decision making wise and he needs to be more careful.
In a closer game we could get burned. The interception had almost zero chance of being a plus play. Throw that ball away. The floater to Corum could also have been a disaster. He had few other throws as well that were way to dangerous.
October 16th, 2022 at 12:56 PM ^
I've liked how we've used JJ the last few weeks. Feels like we've run him maybe 3-5 times a game. Not enough to take a ton of hits, but enough times to keep a defender watching JJ and not watching Blake and that's all you really need to make this run offense truly lethal as Penn State found out yesterday
October 16th, 2022 at 10:32 AM ^
It's also interesting that Chase Brown of Illinois has by far the most carries in the country at 192. The second-place guy has 168. Blake has 146.
Chase Brown is going to be pretty tuckered out by the time we get to him.
October 16th, 2022 at 10:57 AM ^
Exactly, Corum averages 0.7 yards more per carry than Brown
October 16th, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
41 carries for Chase Brown yesterday. Is Bert trying to break his star RB?
October 16th, 2022 at 10:43 AM ^
Yeah but if you take out all of his runs >5 yards, Corum averages less than 5ypc!

October 16th, 2022 at 11:03 AM ^
Ha ha, empty glass stat. Full glass stat? Take out all of his runs < 5ypc. Now that's a stat.
October 16th, 2022 at 11:17 AM ^
Take out all of his runs < 5ypc. Now that's a stat.
Yeah, he scores half as many TDs!
Guys. . . settle down. . . put down your weapons. It's sarcasm. It's okay. I'm just going to step back slowly, OK? Nice and easy.
October 16th, 2022 at 10:47 AM ^
I think after a couple more weeks Corum will legitimately be getting more national attention which will be nice to see. I think the run game this year is better than last year which is crazy, although that could be the strength of schedule as well.
October 16th, 2022 at 10:58 AM ^
He doesn't fumble. Haven't heard people mention that much yet. We have a ton of data and sample size at this point to back up that statement. Barry and Hart had incredibly low fumbles per carry.
October 16th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
and Haskins, 476 carries and not one single fumble
October 16th, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
Yikes!!!!
(Throwing salt over shoulder now!)
October 16th, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
Sorry. Had to be mentioned. It is a major attribute.

J.J. is good
...but Joe Milton beat Alabama!!!
October 16th, 2022 at 11:39 AM ^
Factz
October 16th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
He did it without completing a single pass!
October 16th, 2022 at 12:02 PM ^
LOL. They brought him in yesterday for the last snap before the half for a hail Mary pass. The ball got there. We know he can do that.
October 16th, 2022 at 12:04 PM ^
Hey, man, he played QB in a victory over Alabama. Not many college QBs can say that.
Legend.
October 16th, 2022 at 2:03 PM ^
I was reading something from UT fans that they were as baffled as we were with him winning the job last year. He beat out their current QB, who is on a tear. Milton must be a practice legend or something because whenever he comes in everyone has the same reaction…huh?
October 16th, 2022 at 11:08 AM ^
"Looking good, Billy Ray!"
"Feeling good, Louis!"
October 16th, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
I’ve been saying the same thing. No coincidence that his position cos, Mike Hart didn’t lose a fumble until one of the last games of his college career. Hart protected the fb better than just about any RB I have even seen.
October 16th, 2022 at 11:39 AM ^
And I could well be mis-remembering, but IIRC, Hart fumbled twice in the Red Zone (maybe once and someone else turned it over in the RZ) in that bowl game against Florida. It was the only thing that prevented it from becoming a complete blowout as Michigan dominated. Also, IIRC, Michigan went full spread that game and caught Florida by surprise.
October 16th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
It was the most fun I've ever had watching a Michigan game. Besides the Hart fumbles that game was pure bliss. Even more so than 42-27.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:49 PM ^
Yes, that was a fun game, but no way in hell was it as fun as 42-27.
October 16th, 2022 at 2:00 PM ^
As great as it was to watch Michigan manhandle Meyer and Tebow that day, it was also annoying later when you had to ask “WHERE WAS THIS OFFENSE ALL YEAR?”
October 16th, 2022 at 11:20 AM ^
We have a balanced offense with JJ's passing plus his running ability and then there's the steady play from Blake Corum. Add to that Donovan Edwards as another threat, if he keeps playing like like he did yesterday then watch out!
Let's not forget the great WR guys we have ie Ronnie Bell, Roman Wilson, CJ and don't sleep on Schoonmaker or Andrel Anthony. BTW, can't forget the OL and overall blocking from TE and WR guys. The whole equals the sum of its parts-What an offense!
October 16th, 2022 at 11:41 AM ^
A couple weeks ago there was a board topic asking about over/under on 19 TDs for Corum. I said under, but barely. I am going to be wrong.
October 16th, 2022 at 12:18 PM ^
Good to be wrong sometimes
