Ok so, right when the off-season started, there were rumblings that no offensive coach other than Hartline was safe. Then there was word that the new OC would have a say in who would be kept and who wouldn’t. Frye and Alford were the ones people were speculating about, but it makes sense that Frye came from Kelly’s staff at UCLA to OSU and Alford wasn’t extended past this coming year. Not sure how good of an RB coach he was, but he had some recruiting wins and some close losses due to some schools slipping a bag at the last second (we all thought he had Bijan Robinson in the bag). He will probably kill it recruiting-wise at UM. Sucks to see him go, but this wasn’t totally unpredicted. The destination was though…
Six transfers really isn’t that much, but with all of the starters coming back and not declaring, it would be the bench guys that would get pissed and leave. Might it hurt the future? Sure. But the chips are clearly all in this year for us. And I would imagine that the staff had conversations with the transfers coming in about the culture. I think everyone in the building knows it’s natty (at worst final four) or bust this year.
Isn’t that what makes this the greatest rivalry in all of sports? I hate that this is what it took for us to pull all of these strings, but it happened and I have to live with it for another year.
I wasn’t the one who DV’d, but I’m really excited to see him just call plays with Day (being very familiar with him) and not have HC duties to worry about. It really showed that we didn’t have Kevin Wilson up in the booth this year so I’m glad we have an experienced OC up there who is looking at everything!
Hearing Styles to LB and a Ransom/Downs safety combo. I know he was pretty bad in 2022 against you guys, but Ransom played REALLY well last year before getting hurt. Styles filled in for him and took that awful angle on Corum on his TD run.
The OL is a HUGE concern for me. As long as the QB can hand off to Judkins and Henderson, they’ll be fine. But god if we have a OL showing like the Mizzou game, we might not be .500 (they’ll get it figured out).
Sawyer looked like a different player in the cotton bowl/back end of the year and this D backfield with Burke, Hancock and Ransom back is pretty scary. Multiple losses is quite a bit of a stretch there.

That was actually fun to watch yesterday and the respect factor for the rivalry has trumped the anger factor in my body the past two days. What a great game between two great teams and we even got a little help from the refs. I’m not gonna agree with Roman on what he said, this is the toughest team we’ve had since 2020, but your team definitely performed when it mattered. Just wanted to stop by and say Roebuck and the Armstrong twins are exactly what the difference is between our two teams’ recruiting strategies. Roebuck is going to be a big mauler who can move some people while the twins can put on some weight and still be great pass protectors. Nothing wrong with either, but I think both programs are getting the guys that they want to fit their schemes. Great showing by the Lakewood OL today.
In my opinion, they we hit it out of the park with the James Lauriniatis hire. He can fix quite a few things that Knowles can’t while he’s trying to watch the whole defense.

And technically THIS OSU coaching staff hasn’t had someone in the secondary drafted since last year. The secondary coaches and DC were all first years last year.
Hard to beat Okudah’s draft position and if Damon freaking Arnette is getting picked 19th overall I think the exposure and coaching did them justice in getting drafted highly.
