If you had to choose to attend one game this season:

Submitted by FatGuyTouchdown on

So the title is pretty self explanatory, if you had to choose one Michigan Football game to attend this season, which game would you choose? I'm looking to attend one game, and I'm down to Indiana, AT Michigan State, or AT Ohio State. For reference I've been to several Michigan football games, but never in the Big House. Answers need not be those three games.

Sorry if this clogs up the board, just looking for some expert advice.

If you've never been to the big house then go to the Penn State game or Wisconsin game at home. Otherwise go to the game at OSU.

Isn't that Rockville? I think you're looking for "Indiana wants me, Lord I can't go back there"? I went to the IU game in '13 I believe. Holy Shit we cannot stop that offense. We needed a career game from Devin and an all-time record game from Gallon to get the 60 pts we needed to secure the W. I'm going to Colorado, as that's the game my bud with the bomb season tix invited me to. Living in SF, if $ were no object I'd be a season ticket holder too, and fly back every game... but alas :-(

Was that true in the 90s too? Or '06? I don't recall... Since 2000 We haven't Won there, have been whupped up on several times, and they're consistently good. Stands to reason that even IF they had ticket holders willing to sell, they'd have puh-lenty of fans who'd outbid us for them. Whereas they have no problem out bidding us for seats in The Big House, as for depressingly good reason we feel less confident of a positive outcome, even at home. We could start to reverse that trend this year. I'm hopeful - but not dropping $$hundreds, flying to Columbus, sitting with their jack hole fans in likely shitty weather hopeful. At least not yet...

After attending no less than 6 Michigan Football games each and every season since 1977, what you are proposing is a scenerio that, for me, simply doesn't exist.

Next question.

MSU would be less hostile and more of a guarantee.  OSU fans make you earn it if you represent the Maize n Blue at the Whoreshoe.

Me personally, I lived down there and in E.L.  Our first order of business is retaking this state, and our 2nd order involves getting back to beating and competing vs OSU with consistency.

The safer play is MSU, but man it would be awesome to see Jimmy go down to Scumlumbus and do something we havent done since 2000.

If you do go to The Game, pro-tip:  If you wear our gear...prepare for the worst and hope for the best!!!

Go Blue!!!!

There are several variables:

  • Home or away?
  • Is cost an issue?
  • Who is paying?
  • Regular Season or post-season?
  • Time of game.

If I am paying, cost is an issue. For that reason, I would go with games 2 or 3, possibly 4 or 5. Should be able to get tickets at a reasonable enough price, and get home to Chicago by Saturday night. The issue becomes which game can I buy tickets for at a reasonable price.

If you're paying, then I'd choose to go to OSU or post-season. The way you posed the question (one Michigan game), the implication is that Michigan is playing. That being the case, the only choice is the National Championship Game. Because if they are playing in the NC, that means they already beat MSU, OSU, the Big 10 Championship, and the Semi-Final games.

you have 3 choices 1) save your $ for next year and attend both MSU and OSU games B) go the the B1G championship game or  3) go to the National Championship game... Which ever way your choose...See you there

you'll get a lot of verbal abuse and I mean A LOT in EL.  But you risk physical abuse, batteries thrown at you, car damaged, etc. at OSU.  This is why there are so few UM fans in the stands.  They do a good job of discouraging us from attending.  If you're a football player, though, you could have a good time with it.

The fact that you haven't had a team with a prayer in Columbus since 2006 is more of the reason no Michigan fans attend. There were plenty there pre-2008, including throughout the '90s when the stereotype that OSU fans assault Michigan fans was actually rooted in fact.

First game of the year.

Going to a game that's easily winnable against Hawaii.
It's in the summer so it won't be miserably cold.
Atmosphere should be fantastic with it being first game of year.
Plus, I don't have the money for high profile games.

I'm so looking forward to the sweet sound of silence walking out of that dump. They have 1 mens room per 20,000 men. It will all be worth it when we we realign the solar system so that the planets are back where they've always belonged, and severely kick their misguided asses.

Go when the weather is nice. That rules out early games like Hawaii (too much steam-bath risk) and ones in November. Late September ones are the best, as it's often clear, relatively dry, and 60-70F.

I always bristle at "if you had to choose one" statements because I never like to limit myself to just one, but I suppose if I had to choose just one game, caution to the wind, it's always the Ohio State game, even if it is in Columbus. Now, if you ask me and I wish to not be the victim of gratuitous abuse, then probably our game against Wisconsin in Ann Arbor might be a better option for that.

Someone else mentioned it, but the first game of the year does always have this nice feel to it because you wonder what the season holds, and this seems like it is setting up to be a special one. I suppose that's always in the top five regardless of opponent.

I am personally 2-2-1 in Columbus overall  record. I'd like to win this year and never go back.

Unless I miss having toothless 90 year old women giving me the finger. But, of course, that is just part of the charm of going down there.

Due to staff shortages the Maryland game is the only weekend I have off work during football season. I'm happy to make the long drive to Ann Arbor to see Michigan play in the big house.
