I think that's a more glam, cleaned-up version of that gang in The Warriors, the Lizzies. There wasn't a looker among 'em. But the Glizzies, you had to be at least an 8 to roll with that gang.

posted above, but the patriots of that day were courageous beyond measure.  they spurned the most powerful country on earth, a puny bunch of colonies. they risked it all, their own lives, their homes, everything.   would that we were led by people of such character and integrity now.

Shooting in Highland Park , Il. parade. 
I’ve lived in Chicago ( city proper not suburbs) for nearly 40 years and have gone from able to let my daughters grow up taking the “ el” on their own in high school and walking at night through our neighborhoods. No events ever.  Now I don’t let any woman I know even walk to her car in the dark anywhere in the city. 
 

This is not political. This is not about gun control- I’m sure everyone has heard ( from both political sides) that Chicago has some of the most stringent gun laws on the books. 
 

It’s just sad that on any day , but even more so today, that someone felt the need to shoot innocent people out of whatever frustration they have. 
 

Don’t take your freedom or your life for granted.  
 

Pray we find some solution. 
 

Not looking for a political debate. Just sad.

Longtime [1] Chicagoan here. You might wonder if double blue is overreacting. Not necessarily. The site "CWB Chicago" has a limited focus (north side, mostly) but I don't think it's lying about the rise in violent crime. Sample:

Pre-pandemic, that sort of thing was less likely to happen at 6 A.M. near the Armitage Brown Line station.

When people say “pray” for solutions to problems like this, I can’t help think about the joke with the guy on a roof in a flood who prays for help.  After turning away a rowboat, a motor boat and a helicopter, he ends up dying.    He asks god why his prayers went unanswered.    An exasperated god says: I sent a rowboat, a motorboat and a helicopter.    What more did you expect?

We know the solutions, its just that a minority of the country has highjacked it, and decided the right to carry out a mass shooting is far more important. 

Saw someone describe celebrating the 4th, with how things currently stand feels like throwing a birthday party for someone on hospice. Unfortunately that feels way too accurate.

You can't say you don't want to make something political and then (incorrectly) claim that Chicago has some of the most stringent gun laws. 

Because that's a FoxNews talking point that has been debunked and also ignores many factors (per-capita gun violence rates, the fact that many of the guns used in Chicago violence are purchased in northern Indiana or other states, etc.).  And it also ignores the fact that the latest shooting took place in one of the wealthiest suburbs in America.

My point on stringent gun laws. Which we do have did not intend to comment on the issues that circumvent that. I was trying to avoid someone else bringing it up and make such comments from either perspective.  Why I said it again at the end.  
 

and when I say pray- for some that will literally mean prayers- for most I believe it means hopefully putting aside such differences and seeking a solution that works.

There is not much planned here - a light lunch of soup and salad, chicken fajitas later, and my wife and daughter fighting over which Marvel movie to watch among the ones they've not seen, which leaves it the newest Spiderman and Doctor Strange films for they've seen all the other ones. 

No beer here, of course. Not anymore, anyway. Fake beers, but that's it.

I felt very meh after seeing the second Doctor Strange as well. It was visually stunning but I really had no idea what was going on or even what happened at the end. Didn’t bother sticking around for any post season credits either. 

To me it’s seemed like the MCU universe, post-Endgame, has taken a step back. There’s definitely been some great additions like No Way Home, and I’ll definitely give Love and Thunder a chance since Waititi is directing again, but overall MCU doesn’t have the same allure anymore. 

Felt like Endgame was the final mission of a really big, well-designed open world video game that you devoted a lot of time to, the ending rewarded you for your time, but now all these TV shows / subsequent movies are akin to doing the remaining lone side missions that you just don’t care quite as much about but you might as well complete them because “hey, I’ve already put hours of my life into this…..why not?”

The current state of marvel looks like it is just laying the groundwork for what will eventually be introduced as the next 'big-bad.' Absent that antagonist, a lot of it just feels... shallow.  Few of the Marvel films prior to us actually knowing that we were going the Infinity Wars route stood on their own merits.

I think for me part of it is also that the MCU seems to be hitching it’s wagon to a lot of characters that I personally am not invested in or find all that interesting. Ms. Marvel, She Hulk, Moon Knight, I just don’t care enough to learn more about.

I get it. They’re trying to do something different and not re-do the Infinity Saga all over again with the same characters. New characters for a new generation, that’s fine. But they just don’t really resonate with me that much.

Will be curious though to see how they integrate the X-Men into all of this.
