We are going to love us some Kobe B
October 22nd, 2021 at 9:36 AM ^
I just did a quick review of some tape on all of the incoming recruits. The ceiling for this group is through the roof. With few exceptions, the returnees on this roster are going to be challenged to hold their spots. I believe, by at least mid-season, Kobe will be the first off the bench at the 2-maybe even the 1. Collins will get as much exposure as Juwan feels comfortable with-to get him ready to take over next year. Houstan and Diabate will play major roles this year. And it will be interesting to see how Barnes and Tschetter progress.

That was painful to watch, maybe the plan was to play possum and not look capable?

A dunk-free dunk contest

Was the contest to see who could actually dunk it?
October 22nd, 2021 at 7:41 AM ^
Dunk contests have changed a lot since the '80s. They actually threw the ball through the hoop back then.
October 22nd, 2021 at 7:48 AM ^
Yeah it was bad. The 3 pt contest wasn't / isn't much better, but I'll post anyway.
October 22nd, 2021 at 9:43 AM ^
I actually thought the 3 pt contest was much better.
Pretty lame that The Wolverine didn't shout out the ladies in the Youtube video title or description at all. This is a team that made it to the Sweet Sixteen and almost upset Baylor in OT. Maddie Nolan took Caleb Houstan to the house in the first round.
October 22nd, 2021 at 11:36 AM ^
Was Houstan the away player for the shootout?
October 22nd, 2021 at 7:44 AM ^
Dammit! Is that goal regulation size or what!?
October 22nd, 2021 at 7:53 AM ^
Umm... Lower the rim?
October 22nd, 2021 at 7:53 AM ^
That was underwhelming. Good thing this amateur dog’n’pony show wasn’t showcasing core basketball skills. I really want to believe, though…
October 22nd, 2021 at 1:26 PM ^
You'll have to admit though, that the degree of difficulty on these dunk attempts was really high.
October 22nd, 2021 at 7:56 AM ^
So fun.
October 22nd, 2021 at 8:22 AM ^
I can't watch videos at work, so I don't understand. But it sounds like watching them might not be worth the effort and time. Which sounds sad...
October 22nd, 2021 at 8:25 AM ^
Great post…must not see TV
October 22nd, 2021 at 8:31 AM ^
a bit of a waste of time, they should have scrimmaged.
October 22nd, 2021 at 8:31 AM ^
Makes your realize how hard all of those MJ, JR Smith, Dominique dunks in the 80's were. I have a hard time dunking on a 7 foot hoop, so there's that...
October 22nd, 2021 at 10:31 AM ^
Sounds like you need to work on strengthening your quads. Or change your username to WeakQuads. I’m here all week…

Makes your realize how hard all of those MJ, JR Smith, Dominique dunks in the 80's were.
It must have been very hard for JR Smith to dunk in the 80s, considering he was born in September of 1985.
October 26th, 2021 at 1:15 PM ^
Sorry. I meant JR Rider.

At 6'2, I use to be able to dunk a volley ball in High School. Now in my 50s I can barely jump high enough to touch the rim. I think jumping high has something to do with the strength and length of your calf muscles.
October 22nd, 2021 at 1:56 PM ^
6 ft and could dunk off 1 foot and 2 feet in high school and through my 20s. Played club volleyball and it's a combination of muscles groups and depends on the type of jumper you are.
Gliders like Drexler, Pippen, McGrady, Zach Levine, young Ray Allen (better 1 foot jumpers) a lot of the force comes from the calves and quads. You'll notice they have very thin legs (long achilles as well) up until the calf muscle which is high up on the leg.
Power dunkers (better two foot jumpers) like Dominique, Zion Willamson, Blake Griffin - generally have stronger quads, hamstrings and glutes.
Guys as effective as 1 or 2 foot jumpers like Jordan, Kobe, Kemp generally had an even balance of said muscle distribution.
Obviously in all cases, fast twitch muscles off the charts and strong core.

Hire Vince Carter as dunk coordinator.
Looks like they were having fun though.
October 22nd, 2021 at 8:47 AM ^
Look at the bright side: Michigan is getting an infusion of athleticism. Bufkin, Barnes, and Collins looked pretty good attempting to dunk.
October 22nd, 2021 at 8:48 AM ^
Brent Petway or I’m not impressed
October 22nd, 2021 at 9:27 AM ^
As far as dunking goes, it was Michigan Sadness.
October 22nd, 2021 at 9:30 AM ^
Without watching I guess Zeb stole the show!!
Edit: KOBE!!
October 22nd, 2021 at 9:43 AM ^
The ol' pesky rim stole the show
October 22nd, 2021 at 9:45 AM ^
Let's just hope the shooting goes a little bit better than the dunking.
October 22nd, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
Burn the tape. Or better yet, considering this is digital video, scramble the bits.
October 22nd, 2021 at 11:34 AM ^
That was...about what I expected. I felt bad for the fans who clearly were like "okay, please just dunk at least one of these" toward the end.
As someone who could barely touch rim in my heyday I'm sure this is incredibly difficult but there are a lot of really cool dunks you can pull off without throwing the ball of the backboard or catching it off the bounce or off someone's head. Like, a nice windmill dunk is pretty awesome and you also aren't trying to coordinate with a bouncing ball.
And yes, please exit my lawn when you're done.
October 22nd, 2021 at 11:40 AM ^
5'11" guy comes inches from grabbing a ball and dunking over another human on a 10 foot rim. Mgoblog is not impressed.

Kobe proving again that he wins by minimizing the bling and maximizing made baskets.

This team and program, including the womens basketball team deserve so much more support from this fanbase
October 22nd, 2021 at 3:14 PM ^
Should have brought the Fab Five back for an exhibition game against some of the current players. That would have been fun to watch.
October 22nd, 2021 at 4:45 PM ^
Juwan would scheme up a defense that would shut Juwan down but I still think Juwan would end up having good numbers.
October 22nd, 2021 at 6:20 PM ^
His son would know all his old man YMCA moves.
October 22nd, 2021 at 5:40 PM ^
Midnight Madness with the Fab Five was pretty awesome
October 22nd, 2021 at 6:21 PM ^
Not sure Webber would do it for free.
Too soon?
