Your counter-factual is from…

Your counter-factual is from 10 years ago. That basically proves his point.

Pelinka was in a no-win…

Pelinka was in a no-win situation. Either say no to LeBron’s demand to add Westbrook and get fired, or say yes, let the season unfold as dysfunctional as it has and then get fired.

I just saw that Vogel was…

I just saw that Vogel was fired, making him the 5th Laker coach since Phil Jackson left, none of which lasted more than 3 seasons. If the Lakers had a young roster, cap space, reasonable expectations and draft picks, maybe you roll the dice. They have none of those things.

Vogel WON A CHAMPIONSHIP two…

Vogel WON A CHAMPIONSHIP two seasons ago and he’s probably getting fired today. It’s very easy to turn down that job if you are aware of the tire fire that is the Laker situation.

IF Coach Howard wants to…

IF Coach Howard wants to return to the NBA, the Laker job has got to be one of the least attractive options right now. They mortgaged their future to win a championship 2 years ago. The future is here, now, for them. They are a collection of “Jordan on the Wizards” players. LeBron and Westbrook can still chase stats, but they do nothing to improve the guys around them and AD can’t stay healthy.

If Nunez leaves, that opens up a spot.
There will be 2 - make that 3 - juniors, 6 sophomores and 4 freshmen. That’s a very young team.

EDIT: Thanks Seth, I forgot about Jace.

I’m really old, but A) that sounds like he’s coming back, maybe, and B) how has there not been a 300 comment thread with everyone’s interpretation of this?

You don’t seem to understand…

You don’t seem to understand how wood courts are supposed to behave. I regularly play on a wood court. I’ve seen it being installed. The slats are interconnected such that the force gets distributed over a larger area than just the one board that’s being stepped on. It’s quite obvious that the connection between neighboring boards gave way and all the force was applied to the single board.
I can walk around my court and detect where the connections have gone bad. But installing a new wood court is rather expensive, so we just live with it and patch the court every 6 months or so. Full replacement is done every 3-5 years. But for a new court for a major championship, there’s no excuse for screwing up the court install that bad. I suspect that court installer isn’t going to be asked to do the next final four.

Like it or not, there is a bigger spotlight on the spring game because Kaep is there.
It also shows the current and future players that Harbaugh will have their back, even 5 years after they are no longer playing.

A) who were the WRs he was…

A) who were the WRs he was working with? Maybe they were former wolverines. B) If any scouts stopped by to see him, maybe they stick around to watch the game. C) Spike Lee showed up to support Kaep. The recruiting benefits from this are obvious.

That no call and the “clean”…

That no call and the “clean” block where the Nova player went through the back of Diabate’s head to get to the ball were the 2 plays that stood out to me. Still, make a few more free throws and layups, and maybe we advance.
I saw UCLA start all juniors and seniors in the tournament and thought wouldn’t that be nice.

If we can find a Bobby Portis in the BBall Portal, we’re going to ball baby, probably.

As a basketball player,…

As a basketball player, Hutchinson would be like Max Bielfeldt, if Max’s body was built entirely from his calves.

Diabate reminds me of…

Diabate reminds me of Omoruyi from Rutgers. Their freshmen stats are similar. Diabate’s numbers are a little better than Omoruyi’s freshman year, but worse than his sophomore year. Omoruyi is projected as a 2nd round pick. If Diabate comes back and exceeds Omoruyi’s sophomore campaign, I can see him going in the late first round.

Omoruyi has that extra year of strength training right now, and he is very good around the rim. The Rutgers guards just toss it up and he goes and gets it. Our guards throw a lot of bounce passes in traffic to Diabate and Hunter. I’d like to see more alley-oops. Just throw it over the defense and let the big fellas throw it down.

They raised $5k on Giving Blue Day last week. One nice thing about getting more support from the Athletic Department would be that they could focus more on academics and athletics and less on fundraising.

My niece was on the team this season. My brother told me they had a road trip to Penn State. They bussed over, played a game that day, stayed in a hotel one night, played another game the next day and bussed back that night because they couldn’t afford another night at the hotel.

I get it that a varsity women’s hockey team could cost the AD upwards of $5M annually if you were to include full scholarships for everyone. But the team is getting by with something like $2k contributions per player. I wish there was a model that worked for something in between those figures. If the AD could find $100k for the program (instead of $500), that would go a long way.
I’ve watched some games over the internet and it’s really fun. I would rather watch that on the Big 10 network than a classic Rutgers football game or some dude eating on that Campus Eats show. They just have to keep working to grow the sport.

The ice time at Yost thing is a canard. These women love hockey. They pay to play it. My high school friends on the boys hockey team practiced at 5 AM at the local rink because that’s when they could get time. Yost doesn’t need to be exclusive for the men’s team, and I don’t think it is.

He had 82 assists and 69 turnovers. Jones had 147 assists and 68 turnovers. I think I prefer Frankie starting at point. Whether you would start Sessoms and bring in Bufkin at the 2, or vice versa, I don’t think that would matter much. All 3 guys would be getting 25-30 MPG.

I’m not comparing senior Glen Rice to freshman Caleb Houstan. 0.516 is incredible. But Rice didn’t arrive in Ann Arbor as a fully formed All-American as a freshman. Being disappointed with Houstan’s freshman year is unfair to the guy.

Indiana’s bench played 71…

Indiana’s bench played 71 minutes to our bench’s 29. I generally agree with Craig Ross that you don’t need to have a deep bench. College kids shouldn’t get tired from playing 3 games in 5 days. But today was the counter example to that. Indiana was much fresher in the second half. We’ve experienced the 24-2 type second half runs all season long. I was hoping in game 31 we were passed that. And then we got hit with a 28-4 run or whatever the heck it was today. Weird team, weird season.

Brad Davison has a lower PER…

Brad Davison has a lower PER than Brandon Johns had last season. Brandon Johns PER this season is lower than his freshman season PER. His regression is one of the biggest basketball mysteries in my lifetime. If he had stayed the same as last season, we’re talking about a double bye in the BTT. Instead, we’re in the 8-9 game.

I think Mean Streets is overrated. It’s interesting because of what followed it, but as a stand-alone film, I was underwhelmed. Plus, I’m not a big Harvey Keitel fan and the DeNiro character was just obnoxious.
