Good for him. Wondering what @InsideTexas has to do with him.
They more than likely have a login or get a list from someone who has access to the transfer portal. So depending on what time the Michigan Athletic Department added his name, @InsideTexas could have been the first to see it.
Isn't Yaklich coaching there. ? Maybe they're onto him.
Five. F***ing. Seconds.
That's what she said?
"But I got mine, didn't I?"
- That's how he replied.
When it's with me, girl, you only need 5 seconds because I'm so intense. You whisper something sexy like "is that it?" I know what you're trying to say, girl, you're trying to say "oh yeah, that's it." Then you tell me you want more..well, I'm not surprised. But I'm quite sleepy.
She either get hers when I get mine, or get hers when I get back.
It's always a race for first!
Well, it's not a shock. And I don't blame him. But I could easily imagine a situation in which we wish he'd stayed. I doubt that we'll do better than Johns if Hunter and Moussa leave.
EDIT: Johns had some nice moments at Michigan and was part of a lot of winning. He also chose Michigan over MSU. Good luck to him!
I wonder if this portends well for one of Hunter or Moussa staying. Seems like Johns might have stuck around if they both left.
Probably not, because Hunter and Moussa probably don't have an idea of what they're doing until they get evals, but if they do have an idea, Johns would likely know.
Sadly, I don't think that both leaving would influence Brandon to stay; I think if both leave, Juwan probably looks for a replacement in the portal. Johns is who he is, basically.
Yes, he'd look for a replacement / depth in the portal but that's favorable competition for Johns compared to either Hunter or Moussa.
Unfortunately, If both leave, it's unlikely Michigan has a center on the roster as good as Johns, even if they pick up a transfer.
Oscar Thsibwe was in the portal last off-season…he just won the Naismith POY. There are starting caliber centers in the portal, just have to make your pitch to them.
Does Michigan pay at a rate like Kentucky under the table? Or over the table? I understand the NIL for 2 Arby's restaurants are massive but we arent paying 500K for players like UK.
Yeah, I'm hopeful. There aren't many though, and the bidding will get high.
Really just hopeful Hunter or Moussa comes back.
Best of luck to him!
That's a shame. He's a player that is on the cusp of breaking out. Just needs a little more time. He could really turn into a game-changer. He shows flashes of brilliance. Could be a difference maker.
Yada yada yada.
[In all seriousness, good luck to the young man.]
With Dickinson , Reed coming in , and Moussa back , I would have left too
you know something we don't re: dickinson and diabate, or are you just having some fun?
RE: Dickinson
He instagrammed this:
hunter.dickinson1 Ima go all out with the ones that I came in with #Year2
This season was his #Year2 though.
Exactly and he even went as far to tell Dug McDaniel that they could hoop together this summer, but fell short of saying that he would play with him next season.
Seemed to be intentionally vague which I totally respect.
Portal Johns stink.
yeah, but when a portal john is your only option to fill in in a time of need, you would be happy to have one.
Making fun of the player's name--great! Freaking potty mouth!
Was always a believer in Johns. By all accounts, he was a great teammate. Presumably, he is leaving with diploma in hand from a great university. Good luck to him. Hope he ends up somewhere where he gets big minutes.
Wishing him the best of luck wherever he lands. Tap that potential, Mr. Johns!
A confounding career if I've ever seen one. He's got all the tools, but he just never put it all together. We should probably get a counter for how many times that phrase has been made in reference to Johns.
Well, I hope he finds success at a different school and in his basketball future. I am glad he was on the team and contributed to so many awesome seasons and tournament runs.
Disclaimer: You and anyone else can take what I am about to say for whatever it is worth.
Someone I am really close with commonly crosses paths with a player who's career overlapped Johns at Michigan (I am not going to say which one). My source asked the unnamed player why we never seemed to see the good Johns far more and often times saw a version that was not even a borderline rotation player. The player bluntly told my source that Johns never seemed to take playing basketball at college seriously in terms of what needed to be done at practice, off-season workouts, etc. The phrase "screwing around" was used.
Of course, that's one persons opinion. However, I did find it telling last year that Juwan had a 5 year and 4 year scholarship player on the roster (Davis and Livers) and elected to make both of them captain - Juwan had the same thing this year with Eli and Johns but the former was the sole captain per everything I could find online.
Again, I am not trying to trash Johns and I am just passing along what I was told. I certainly would thank him for some of the great moments he provided and wish him well in the future.
Well if that player's assessment is entirely accurate then that is real shame. Not for fans, or Michigan basketball, but for Johns himself. He really does posses some excellent athletic traits that could have led to him being an extremely successful college basketball player. If it is true he didn't take it so seriously, then that's too bad.
Of course, maybe he also just does other things he cares about more? I can't fault someone for finding other jobs/hobbies they enjoy more, but of course that's 100% speculation on my part in this case.
Oh well, it's just a disappointing "what if" scenario that I'm sure most won't feel too bad about considering all the success of Michigan basketball during Johns' career.
Probably accurate on the commitment to improve. Spent lots of time in East Lansing hanging with high school buds.
The spurning Izzo talk is overplayed, as his bb IQ was in serious question prior to his UM commitment. MSU coaches were not disappointed with his decision.
The screwing around assessment is pretty accurate as that was his rep in high school.
Decent high school player that never looked anything beyond MAC level player.
Hi. Why did UM jump on him then if Izzo "cooled on him" due to bb IQ? What does that say about UM's staff analysis? They can turn a player around who doesn't have the bb IQ? They wanted to stick a thorn to Izzo despite not doing homework? Or they did their homework but had massive self belief they could change a player Izzo was happy to lose?
I mean this stuff is something else - did you come to the board 4 years ago and explain Johns lacked bball IQ and you hoped the Michigan staff could turn him around based on your sources in EL? If so would love to see the link to your warning. Interesting how this always comes out later.
"never looked anything beyond MAC level player."
That is completely false. 247 had him as #70 in his class and he showed flashes and serious potential many times, just never put it together consistently.
You are absolutely correct, and based on his composite score he is arguably the biggest bust in Michigan BB recruiting since these composite scores have been tracked.
So Johns and Shea Patterson were golfing 8 months a year? Makes sense.
Sometimes guys don't work out or don't have the dawg in them. But go forward we will just call them golfing types.
I don't doubt this per se, but it's all the more baffling that he played so much towards the end of the season. It seemed like he was getting time over Williams to the point where it was like, is he a practice super star or something? Or maybe Twill is similar. The way he loses focus in games, I could see that.
Goodbye, sweet prince.
Johns was a interesting case to me..He started out doing pretty well but as the years progressed he seemed to get timid and did play all that great so his playing timne decreased as the season went on..Good Luck to him but not to kick a man when hes down but this one wont hurt that much
He'd prolly start at LSU no matter what position
In my mind this is an excellent take. Interestingly, I've long called Brandon an "SEC" player-excellent physical attributes but doesn't know how to play the game. Sadly, it's not necessarily his fault-he was so poorly coached in HS. I remember his HS tapes-he was allowed to play lazy basketball...never boxed out or played sound defense and played randomly outside of any semblance of offensive strategy or flow. He could and would put up big numbers because, physically, he was better. He was not enough better, physically, when he got to big-time college play.
He might have to play one on five, though.
happy for him; but i really wish he would have stayed.... our loss
As a person? Sure. On a basketball court? Nah
In his freshman year Johns had to play backup center. I've always wondered if that set his development back?
He seems to have all the tools (that statement could be a MGoBlog drinking game) needed to star. I hope he winds up at a place that I can continue to cheer for him.
Nah, small ball center was always going to be his best position.
I wonder if he made this decision, or if Juwan made it for him. If I was Juwan . . .
IMO it's obvious Juwan made the decision for him, the numbers just don't fit.
Thank you, Mr. Johns, for all you contributed to the team and to Michigan.
